Seems to me he's being fired for his religious beliefs, isn't that discrimination based on federal law?

 

Why would you declare that a man with morals and a conscience is vile and bigoted? Furthermore, with the expansion of immorality and perversity, it is more necessary now than ever to employ morals and conscience on national TV.

 

I agree with you. What the guy from Duck Dynasty said was not hateful. There's a big difference between hating the sin and hating the sinner. A true Christian speaks the truth about what's right and what's wrong, without criticizing the sinner. People are way too politically correct.

By that standard then a company 'could never fire you for anything' if you just claimed it is a 'religion' (ex. a person could show up to work nude, and then just assert that nudism is some 'religious belief' of theirs, etc)

1st Amendment protection doesn't apply to private businesses. It just means the govt can't arrest you or censor you for saying something 'offensive'.

I believe you are wrong. The problem is most employers will make up another reason for firing you or state none at all, but that is not the case here. A&E clearly stated that Phil Robertson's religious views do not reflect theirs and that is discrimination.

Just because two things are immoral does not make them equivalent. Adultery is not equivalent to murder is it.

 

I read what he said and no where did I read him comparing people who engage in homosexuality with people who engage in bestiality. Can you cite that part.

Views on homosexuality, bestiality, etc are not exclusively 'religious'. If he had been fired, or told he could not be hired just because he is a Christian, or believed in god, that would be a different story

Yes it is - Stalin was an atheist but disliked homosexuality. So by your standard an atheist could be fired for saying they dislike homosexuality (since it's a 'secular reason') but a Christian, Muslim, etc could not be fired for saying the same thing (since it's a 'religious reason'). That's absurd, and no different than political correctness.

And now knowing that A&E was present during the interview could their conduct be considered harassment? Having said that he must be an employee of A&E and not an independent contractor.

Are you willfully misrepresenting what he said? He was asked what he considered sinful. He started with homosexuality. He then listed other things he considered sins, including bestiality and adultery. That's it.
