On this Christmas day, I began to wonder what the worldwide impact of Jesus has been. What say you? Is there anyone comparable?
I would suggest that in leading first world countries (leading as in the most evolved and advanced), and remote and primitive societies, it would be roughly the same. Low.
Do not judge others. Even the poorest of poor should be treated fairly. Love your enemy. Many others. Now if the followers of Jesus would do as he suggested.
unless you're talking some parts of South East Asia, South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Pacific Islands ....
While some made every effort here to show they are just shy of being funny, others went full ignorant. I doubt this was a serious request, but to suggest that Jesus hasn't had an influence on most of the world is in the last 1600 years or so is ridiculous. (Evidenced by how this day that celebrates Jesus' birth is celebrate around the world)
During what time frame? I thought that a great deal of Asia is either Christian or Muslim, both of which point to Jesus. - - - Updated - - - How has he changed the world?
Seriously? You are asking how the teachings of Jesus have changed the world? Seriously? There are libraries full of books about it. But to simply state it, his teaching inspired people to focus on a new way to be Jewish that was less about strict practice and more about building a better world. This led to opening up the theology and morality of Judaism to a wider audience thus universalizing the message. His teachings were a spark that lit a fire that swept around the world, some by force but much by offering a simple way to understand humanity's place in the universe and its connection to God. Those early church thinkers, influenced by the stories of Jesus forced Judaism to clearly define itself apart from this new sect in the post-Temple era. While Jesus' theology and the understanding of it play no role in the Jewish theology of the time, its existence forced the hand of the early Rabbis to find a way to make Judaism something that was not central at a Temple but based in community.
The impact of Jesus, or more importantly Christianity, on the development of the world is much to huge to even imagine understanding. Suffice to say that nothing would look the same. But just to help you think about it, think in terms of cause and effect. Think about the effect christianity had on rome, and then what effect rome had on europe, and then what effect europe had on the world, and you'll begin to understand how history is just one big house of cards made of of cause and reaction, and if you remove something as influential as christianity, there will be few things today that would be the same. What would have kept learning alive when rome fell, what would have united europe? Imagine the world without the two big monotheistic religions. It's literally unthinkable how different it would be. I'll just say that I think Jesus was a clueless hippie
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_religions I am far far from an eastern hemisphere religious expert. Not even a novice. So I'll have to go with wiki on this one.
Jesus Christ was devoid of all 'self/ego', and showed us that His Father consisted of pure humility and love. Everything that exists today, including our very selves our morals and standards can be directly attributed to Him. His impact and importance is so overwhelming that the world literally split in two; BC and AD. + +
Oh yes he did. The disciples went Eastwards as well as Westwards, and people became Christian en masse. One of the first people to become Christian were the Ethiopians, and there are also ancient Churches in places like India. Christ's teachings impacted the world at that time, the same as it did later on when atrocities such as 'suttee' were stopped. Try to imagine a world with tens of thousands of similar atrocities, and you will have an idea of the pre Christian world.
Like Mohammed, Abraham and Moses, Jesus is one of a select group of individuals that have successfully peddled their monotheistic trio of God-fearing religions to most of the Western World, Latin America, the Middle East and parts of Southern Asia. They have managed to get billions people to devote their lives, indeed the very manner in which they live their lives, to the methods of their teachings, and kill each other over the differences in opinion between each of the trio's prophets. Nothing good has come of his existence.
I thought he was full of wrath? - - - Updated - - - even those who've never heard of him, I suppose? really, Jeanette, you would do well to study a little anthropology. will give you a good insight into where our 'morals' really come from.
