Hmm Sweden, has the lowest GDP to debt ration in Europe. Announced a new round of tax cuts in the 2013 budget. Not really the signs I would expect from a very very poor country. Oh well, it is not like you would have made anything up now, would you now?

That is so funny! When did you live in Europe, and how long did you live there?

Europe is not "sad!" In fact, their quality of life FAR outpaces the US!
European love to VISIT the US . . . (and THEY can afford those visits, both in terms of vacation time AND income!), but very few would even THINK of migrating to the US!

Europe is sad! You are so funny!

And you REALLY BELIEVE that Sweden is "poorer" than the us? Sweden is number 5 for GDP per capita. . .US is # 10!

You really need to stop listening to propaganda. . .and use your "income" to travel the world!

I would support democratic socialism if our country were smaller and more culturally homogeneous.

According to who? Is it your claim that Detroit has a higher quality of life than San Moritz?

The STANDING might be "better" (if you consider bigger houses, bigger cars, more cars), the QUALITY of life is IMMENSELY better in most European countries (including vacation time, infrastructure, public transportation, ability to travel, food quality, services, health care, job security, AND unemployment benefits. ..when jobs don't work out!) AND every safety net supports, including child care, schooling, etc. .

Where did you hear that FALSE information that Europe's QUALITY of life was lower than in the US?

By the way. . .in level of happiness, the US comes at #12. . .Suede at #10. . . and most countries from #1 through # 15 are EUROPEAN countries!

Which means that you cannot provide any reliable sources, and that you can't even tell us where your "opinion" comes from? Traveling in Europe? Living in Europe? Which countries and WHEN?

The true reality is home is where you find it. Most Americans are happy living in America. Most Europeans are happy living in the various European nations. Europe is how it is because Europeans like it that way. The US is like it is because by and large Americans like it that way. And that is truly a great thing, because if we all liked the same things the same way the world suddenly becomes extremely boring

Yes, I mostly agree. As a person who lives in both continent (and I visit my son who lives in Brisbane, Australia), I know that there are things I like best in all three (Europe, US, and Australia). But it is infuriating to continuously be bombarded by arrogant propaganda about the "exceptionalism" of America by people who have never even left the country and are just repeating what they heard on "select" news channel (or worse. . .Fox News!).

Then, what is even worst is when they take their arrogant attitude with them when visiting other countries, expecting to find "what they are used to" in those other countries, without even trying to enjoy the difference in culture, in value, and even in food!

    :)

I think the US has more in common with Eastern Europe than with Central or Western.

    - - - Updated - - -

*L* Does this apply to Communist countries, too?

I wouldn't say that many Americans are happy with the state of this country, though clearly we'll tolerate a lot.

Sadly I dont think that attitude is reserved for Americans either. Some Australian make complete asses of themselves when traveling, as I am sure can be found among some Europeans. When I decided to move to the US I made a conscious effort of "when in Rome" Sure there are things I miss from home, but that is not America's fault.

But remember Americans are their own worst critics. Being number 2 at something means complete and devastating failure. Thats just Americans being American. Other cultures might think, hey 2 out of 180 - We got this lol

We're well below #2 on many metrics. Doesn't seem to be inspiring much action..
