Before jumping to any conclusion, read the brief 2-page article in the link. It is about the Salem Witch hunt.

People were imprisoned and killed simply for being accused of witchcraft.

Like the cries of "homophobia" or "discriminated because I'm homosexual" there was no proof of witchcraft or guilt.

Today, lawsuits are made with claims that people were refused x or y because the employer/school/etc thought that they were homosexual

That right there is the similarity. All that a self-professed homosexual must do is accuse someone of bigotry/homophobia/discrimination and the guilt is automatically assumed

During the witch trials, the accusers did not need to medically prove that their convulsions, or babbling were because of witchcraft; they simply needed to make the accusation.

Today, there is no medical test to confirm that one is homosexual so there is no way to prove it other than visit the bedroom. The other frightening part is that the thoughts of the accused are what is questioned and the homosexual seems to be given more weight about knowing what the other person was thinking.

Yes, this is what political correctness gets us. In the 1690's it was simply called a different name

Its a made up word to demonize and intimidate to silence any opposing voices.
not any different as the constant pulling of the race card

But it goes beyond that. We have hate crimes in place where they guess the thoughts of the attacker and thus make a bad crime a hate crime.

We see accusations where people who claim to be homosexual (can't prove it) accuse discrimination because a person "thought" they were homosexual and thus discriminated

Who is being imprisoned and killed simply for being accused of homophobia?

Homophobia- to me- is a term for bigotry that is useful shorthand- like racism or anti-semitism. As such, certainly the term can be abused.

However, it is useful shorthand to describe what is often just bigotry against homosexuals similar to bigotry against blacks or Jews or Catholics, etc.

So short answer to your question- LOL- no.

    Many reasons that happens.
    Two are
it is an Alinsky Tactic making a perceived problem worse then it actually is so to bring attention to the perceived problem
another is the need to play a victim either for personal reasons or as a tactic to perpetrate as I described above

    No.
(the OP would have had made a better example of being labeled a Jew in Germany in the 1930s as the Brownshirts came to power, but that would be a pretty good stretch).

To me homosexuality is much like the slavery debate in tech 1800s. Today we are to point where states are trying to control things (similar to what the Missouri Compromise) yet they will
lose in the long run like they should. 100 years from now people will look back and wonder why it took so long for equality.

    not really

The witch hysteria is the exact thing. Innocent people are denied liberty based upon an accusation by a self-professed homosexual. That could be having to pay money, performing a service or extending employment.

During the witch trials, all that was needed was the accusation. I am saddened and shamed that we as a people did not learn from our past.

Homophobic is used just because you think homosexuality is wrong and you don't agree with it
Are you anti-semitic if you think the Jewish belief is wrong and you disagree with it?

don't worry, homophobes wont be burned at the steak, though some homosexuals have been targeted by Christians for termination and other abuses

lets just hope the homophobes don't resort to stoning

Sometimes it is used that way. Generally, I use that term in the same way I would use the term racist or anti-semite- i.e. when the person is promoting some discrimination against a person, or a generally hateful attitude towards someone of that community. I generally don't use that term simply because someone doesn't agree with homosexuality itself.

“...the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew.”

"Now begins the great last revolution. In gaining political power the Jew casts off the few cloaks that he still wears. The democratic people’s Jew becomes the blood-Jew and tyrant over peoples. In a few years he tries to exterminate the national intelligentsia and by robbing the peoples of their natural intellectual leadership makes them ripe for the slave’s lot of permanent subjugation"

Often yes- anti-semites do attack Jews because of their beliefs.

Of course, you could have used examples where people were imprisoned or killed simply for being accused of homosexuality. It wouldn't have been any less irrelevant but would have been a more interesting contrast.

My emphasis, a key aspect oft-forgotten. Equally relevant is that the same kind of laws protect people discriminated because they (are thought to be) heterosexual, bisexual, asexual, American, English, Christian, Muslim, Jewish and many other things.

That is simply untrue and you know it. The balance of proof is exactly the same as any other equivalent legal process.

Interesting what you find when you Google gay-witch-salem

    http://atheistoasis.wordpress.com/2...h-the-christian-persecution-of-gay-americans/

17-year-old Eric Mohat of Mentor, Ohio, was a quiet, sensitive, funny boy who played the piano, was involved in theater and enjoyed Harry Potter books, video games and anime. Throughout high school, Eric was bullied without mercy by other kids who called him “(*)(*)(*),” “queer,” “gay” and “homo.” His mother said he had never identified himself as gay, but he was smart, into music and theater and wore bright clothes. The bullies at school added all that together and came up with “gay.” He complained to teachers, who would change the seating arrangement in class to get him away from the bullies, but nothing more. As a result, Eric was bullied even more for being a snitch. The school’s attitude, according to Eric’s mother, was “they are just being kids, boys are just being boys.”

Most of the bullying took place in math class. The teacher was also an athletic coach and he did nothing to protect Eric or stop the bullying. According to Eric’s mother, other students said that his class was “hell on earth.” When she offered to get involved, Eric said, “No, it’s under control.” But it wasn’t. One day, Eric said to his mother, “I get picked on every day and I’ve got a whole nine weeks left. I can’t do this anymore.” A few days later on March 29, 2007, one of those bullies, openly in class, said, “Why don’t you just go home and shoot yourself, no one will miss you.” And that was what Eric did.

Yes- the poor bigots are the ones suffering....

Just last week, a 14-year-old boy was brutally beaten on a school bus in Mineola, New York, by three teenage boys who believed him to be gay. The teenagers slapped, punched, kicked and stomped the boy while uttering sexual slurs. All three boys have been arrested and charged with a felony hate crime.

But the fact is that much of this bullying targets gay teens and the children of gay parents, or children who are perceived as gay whether they are or not. Lesbian and gay teens are three times more likely to report being bullied than others.

No one Jeff. Your side just makes sure that anyone who doesn't accept homosexuality is run out of business.

Great- so we are in agreement that the answer to the OP is 'NO'.

"No one Jeff. Your side just makes sure that anyone who doesn't accept homosexuality is run out of business."

My side? You mean the side of truth, justice and the American way? LOL....

I am actually generally opposed to boycotts- while I agree that people have every right to boycott anyone that they want to, I generally think that boycotts are counter productive.

And I feel the same way whether it is members of the GLBT suggesting a boycott of Chic Filet for their policies(their chicken is yummy) or fascist bigots and Christians such as the "American Family Association" who promote boycotts of business's because they don't discriminate against homosexuals(Starbucks, Disney, etc).

So tell me Tex- are you against all boycotts- regardless whether they are pro- or anti- gay- or just when the boycott is organized by the gay community?

    - - - Updated - - -

LOL......Jewish Americans comprise much of the American far left.......

The side of fascism to force people to accept you through bigtory and intolerance isn't the American way Jeff.

That wasn't a boycott. It was an assassination of a business by a bigoted community so full of hate and intolerance for others they couldn't stand people who don't agree with them in business.

As I said Jeff. This wasn't a boycott. A boycott is not calling with threats every day including death and rape. That is nothing but pure bigotry and hate.

    Not for much longer Jeffery.

I agree- good thing that no one is using fascism to force people to do anything in America. However, we have a long history of Americans fighting bigotry and intolerance- I think fighting homophobic intolerance and bigotry is a good thing.

What business died? Who killed it? Maybe you are talking about some wierd case I am not familiar with.

"As I said Jeff. This wasn't a boycott. A boycott is not calling with threats every day including death and rape. That is nothing but pure bigotry and hate."

So which organization called for death and rape?

Or are you speaking of the actions of individuals who called with threats of death and rape?

Let me make this clearer for you:

Calling for a boycott- like some gay groups and some Christian groups have done is legitimate, but I think counterproductive.
Calling and making threats- like some people have done to homosexuals- and apparently to some business owners- is wrong legally and morally- and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    I can tell the difference.

    Can you?
