Hmmm, in the current climate of leaning far more to the right side then to the middle (or towards the left) side, the choice of the soldier Peter Cosgrove doesn't come as a surprise: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-28/governor-general-peter-cosgrove-swearing-in/5350796 What are your thoughts on the subject? Can a soldier, who served in multiple (in my opinion very questionable) wars be the best and clever clever choice for Australia? Anyway, as everyone deserves a fair go, I wish him well and his future action will determine his legacy... Cheerio
No real surprise that another croonie and politician YES-MAN is given the GG position that will add zero benefit to the "real" Australian people. Keeping the "real" people dumb and out of important positions is always an important strategy to politicians and their puppet masters.
At least, as far as I know, Cosgrove is not related to any sitting Liberal politician. The previous GG appointed by Labor is the mother in law of the Labor leader! How's that for cronyism!
Still appointed by a polly, and I would feed my dog before anyone of them!! Ever wonder why a military commander was given: Order of St John of Jerusalem - world-wide mission "to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, and to act to enhance the health and well-being of people anywhere in the world."[5] LOL LOL Didn't know military commanders relieved injury, and acted to enhance health and well-being of people anywhere in the world? I wonder if this also applies to the thousands of people they order to be killed? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venerable_Order_of_Saint_John I will have to use that as a precedent now.
Shorten was still married to his ex when Bryce was appointed. Honestly I don't really care about the GG, so long as they don't do anything totally ridiculous.
Soldiers don't get to choose the wars they fight in. They obey. Therefore shouldn't be tarnished by politically incorrect wars. He impresses me as being politically and media savvy yet as respectful to the Constitution as any Soldier should be.
That is the dilemma. If they would say no to wars not sanctioned by the UN, the world might become a better place. But that is another subject. However Cosgrove was concerned about our involvement in Iraq, which he publicly expressed, and that honors him. I am generally more afraid to have one at the top, who within the nature of his ex *work-life* will be more favorable towards his old employer. That means, more medals will be easier presented for those, serving overseas, whether their employment is justified or not. Of course the decision will be made by Toneee, but we all know which direction he chooses. And anything questionable in regards to future employments will have a bigger advocate in Cosgrove. The whole army issue will receive another boost, despite already being the best and greatest in the world anyway. I would have been more happy, if an retired doctor or human rights advocate would have be chosen to be the head of state. Anyway, that's me....
Fear not. In the past your wishes have been catered to by lefty Labor governments. The previous GG is a case in point. She was heavily involved in women's lib issues. And when Labor gets back in the actions of the present GG will be tuned in.
SF, just the opposite, I think that an retired doctor for example would have less political agendas compared to an ex general. He served all human beings, whatever their skin color or religion, while a soldier served a given political enviroment... How can you misinterpreted me so much? Party driven? regards
Fear not. When lefty Labor gets back in, the GG will reflect their politics. The last GG is a case in point. She was heavily involved in lefty women's rights. (As opposed to middle of the road women's rights). BTW, it is my perception that people like Cosgrove should just do their job and not be swayed by politics of any kind (if that is possible).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Cosgrove#Military_service Again, you should look it up yourself before trying to disparage anybodys efforts...
You seem confused. Where did I disparage anyone? By the way East Timor wasn't a war. It was a UN sanctioned peace keeping operation. Nice try though.
Are you calling Cosgrove a mindless automaton? He's not mindless. He's not an automaton. If he doesn't mirror your concerns, that doesn't mean that he acts mechanically.
How pedantic of you... Vietnam was also not a war so instead of trying to save face you should look up these things instead of trying to disparage a person’s name... Yes, you are trying to disparage Cosgrove, and the Coalition, the previous comment shows, and this comment reinforces such... However, your comments only show how ignorant you are of his achievements and how willing you are to remain such.
Whats your definintion of an individual who kills someone they don't know on the orders of another individual without question? I call an individual like that a mindless automaton. Killing someone on the orders of someone else without question, is a mindless mechanical action and mentality.
Vietnam was a war. Stop believing the Americans when they say that their constitution determines if something is a war or not. I don't think you know what disparage means.
Wow, In Australia, just for the record, we hardly ever discuss the subject of a war, especially those after WW1 and 2, or our involvement in one after. We celebrate our army, and that's about it. Whether Vietnam was a war, or Iraq, or or or, no one wants to know, as long our heroes and army remain undisputed. Despite Cosgrove questioning our involvement in Iraq, I would have loved to see a non soldier as the head of the state. Cheerio
But Cosgrove and no other Australian military personnel has ever killed an individual because they were ordered to. We don't do executions. It's against military and civil law. All countries have self defense forces. Are you suggesting that they are all automatons? Your beliefs are off this planet. If it wasn't for people like Cosgrove defending you, then you would drift off into outer space and asphyxiate for lack of oxygen.
