    1948. :)

His cattle, until recently, roamed freely on land managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management. Before the roundup that sparked protests, confrontations and gunmen taking a bridge, Bundy explained his "ancestral rights" to the I-Team.

"I've lived my lifetime here. My forefathers have been up and down the Virgin Valley here ever since 1877. All these rights that I claim, have been created through pre-emptive rights and beneficial use of the forage and the water and the access and range improvements," Bundy said.

Clark County property records show Cliven Bundy's parents moved from Bundyville, Arizona and bought the 160 acre ranch in 1948 from Raoul and Ruth Leavitt.

Water rights were transferred too, but only to the ranch, not the federally managed land surrounding it. Court records show Bundy family cattle didn't start grazing on that land until 1954.

And this explains why he lost so many court battles.

None of the Right would ever bet on Bundy actually "winning" legally, of course.

But I feel sorry to intrude on a "good story" the Right is enjoying....with FACTS. :)

But clearly Bundy is lying his fat ass off when he talks about his "ancestral rights" which POST-date World War-II by several years.

So is he lying? If so, how exactly is he lying here? His forefathers may not have owned land in the Virgin Valley since 1877, but there was nothing stopping them from going "up and down" the Virgin Valley since 1877, right?

Post-dating World War II by three years (WWII ended in 1945, his ancestral rights began in 1948 ) does not really count much as "several years". Perhaps from a semantics standpoint. Accusing Bundy of "lying" by using an exaggeration of your own looks an awful lot like a lie on your part. Or at the very least, a healthy dose of intellectual dishonesty. ;)

With that logic, a tribe of Native Americans could come take his ranch from him.

As a sovereign nation according to the Commerce Clause in the U.S. Constitution, theoretically they could.

Yeah, I thought somewhere in last week's bruhaha, this clown was declaring family ties to the land 2 centuries (yes, the 1800's are now 2 centuries) ago. Whoops, seems he got it wrong! (Frankly, I think he is just a DEADBEAT that doesn't want to pay his bills!)

But Clark County property records show Bundy’s parents bought the 160-acre ranch where he still lives in 1948, two years after he was born in Bundyville, Ariz. — the same year the Bureau of Land Management was created through executive order by President Harry Truman. Water rights were also transferred to the ranch itself, but not the federally managed land surrounding it, and court records show the Bundy family began grazing cattle on that land in 1954, when Cliven was 8 years old.

U.S. District Judge Johnnie Rawlinson noted that date in his 1998 ruling, which held that Bundy would not be permitted to continue using the federal land because he had failed to pay required fees to the BLM.

“My rights are before the BLM even existed, but my rights are created by beneficial use,” Bundy argued. “Beneficial use means we created the forage and the water from the time the very first pioneers come here.”

Did you just miss it or did you choose NOT to look at it! It was a local news station in NV, in Vegas that did a public records search--in person or on line-- HOWEVER that is done. KLAS TV found the dates. I'm more than certain that RAW STORY can read and/or listen to a newscast. (Of course it is a CBS news affiliarte--yeah, that's it, must be a lie). Let FOX or the FOX affiliate go out and double check 'CBS' and make sure 'CBS' didn't lie.

(Please people, tell me BOARDIES are not this obtuse. Please tell me Americans aren't this stupid).

Being a liar is not too far away from being a deadbeat. Thanks for this thread.

Bundy does not appear to be the best person (in character) to stand with. However, when the Federal Government sends armed thugs to seize property and attack citizens over cows grazing.... We The People have a huge problem. I would rather stand with Bundy than be pinned under Federal Government Authoritarian pressure.

Why does the BLM have guys with guns?
Why did they not just process a lien and wait for the old dude to die?
Why does the Federal Government own 84.5% of Nevada?
What's the big deal with grazing cows????

I say the Government is far more distrustful than Bundy.... and that's even if he is a liar.

I just don't get it anymore! Do I know the local CBS affiliate there? No. Do I think they can get a public records search right?? Yes! I found my grandma's property in CA and it was a helluva earlier than Bundy's claim to his 'ancestral' property.

Sending in the Bureau of Land Management armed forces only raised more questions than answers. I have said since I first heard about this that I agree that Cliven Bundy should have just paid the damned grazing fees and then argued his case in court, but the BLM's response to the whole situation was a hundredfold more disturbing.

Why is the Federal Government SPENDING $6-7 MILLION to collect on a $200K debt?

The story was broken by a local Nevada Television station news unit who bothered to look up the land records. http://www.8newsnow.com/story/253015...under-scrutiny

Where in hell is Bundyville, Ariz? Neither MapPoint nor Google Earth show a Bundyville, Ariz. I think the man is a shape-shifter from Area 51.

If Elizabeth warren can be a native American without repercussions then Bundy can state he was grazing cattle there by whatever date he wants.
If illegals can ignore our laws and be championed by liberals for doing so then bundys cattle can eat the grass I helped pay for. When we see illegals being rounded and removed with fervor supported by lefties then no leftie has any business whatsoever citing cow trespassing laws. I mean you can but how embarrassing the hypocrisy must be.
