Seems the NBA banned this owner for life for comments ha made in a private conversation. Along with the life time ban, Sterling was also fined 2.5 million dollars.

While there is little doubt that this clown has the character of an infected wart, a life time ban and a fine of 2.5 mil are outrageous for comments made in a private conversation.

It's amazing that a story that affects literally no one in this country outside of Donald Sterling is getting so much traction.

So will the music industry ban Snoop for his obviously racist comment? Will Magic get to ever be a commentator over his comments that were just as bad? Nah...only certain people are allowed to be racist.

Now lets ban each moral upstanding NBA player that has or will have illegitimate kids on the road.

Yeah....I agree with the OP. This character would not be my friend either. Nor would I hang around with his former slutty, gold-digger girlfriend and her friends like Magic Johnson. But I guess this means that some who say, "there is NO free speech in this country anymore," are correct. And to think; they don't even know yet who supplied the tape; if it's authenic or doctored, or anything about it. Everyone is so quick to have others say of them....."Aren't they to be admired; getting back at those terrible racists," that they are willing to react in this heavy-handed manner.

Just remember all: next time you're out with friends, ex-friends or lovers, know that they may have a phone in their pockets recording what you say. Know that you CAN lose your job and your business and even have your personal freedom to attend NBA games in this country away from you. In fact, I'm quite sure that IF this man, Sterling, were to take this thing all the way to the Supreme Court, he would win; the NBA would lose. Despite how awful it is, being a racist is NOT illegal. And freedom of speech is certainly not illegal either.

We'll see if the NBA is consistent on this kind of thing.

    Sad.

I believe the fancy, $25 term for it is cognitive dissonance. Put less eloquently, I am deeply conflicted here: On a purely visceral level, I feel that Donald Sterling got precisely what he deserved. Racism is utterly repellent; and we should be committed, as a society, to have no tolerance for it.

Yet on a more intellectual level, I fear what may become of our great nation if we allow our policies to be governed by the heart rather than by the head. And according to this standard, it may be unwise to punish Mr. Sterling for his words--however (indisputablty!) despicable they were.

Perhaps Charles Krauthammer, last night, on FNC, put it best: Mr. Sterling is 80 years of age; and is a part, therefore, of a generation that saw nothing especially wrong with blatant bigotry. But that attitude--thankfully--will soon be consigned to the dustbin of history.

You just described 95% of most front page stories.

It's called human interest. People enjoy watching train wrecks.

The NBA has standards to uphold. I'm not going to condemn them for kicking that idiot to the curb.

Their standards, like all sports leagues, are less than consistent and subject to the whims of political correctness. As despicable as Sterling's speech and views are, they are much less egregious than a lot of things that happens around sports.

Yeah, I agree; and its a bit disconcerting that only one side of the story gets presented. As I see it, the ruling and societal "outcry" is a victory for the oppressive thought police, and their self-righteous hypocrisy; and a defeat for privacy and free speech.

I guess my empathy for multi-million dollar basketball players, most with their own self-righteous racist egos, isn't quite up to par with the rest of modern society.

He could have run into the stands and started attacking random people and only been suspended a year.
