Too bad Ukrainians want to fight their own fights, eh? Can't let them have the taste of victory without foreign interventionism and debts to large world powers...nooooo, that would be terrible. They might realize what they can do all on their own and say (*)(*)(*)(*) you to the US and EU as well as Russia.

Less than you would imagine when you consider the capacity for thought.

Indeed Russia has done so. And it functions well.

Europe sees the threat but does nothing.

At current rate, Europe will be lucky to stop Putin before he reaches Cap Finisterre.

    Taxcutter says:
The US will take its chances defending Alaska. How does Russia go about providing logistical support for a force grabbing Alaska?

Vladivostok is not ice-free and its 9,000 kilometers by rail from Ekaterinberg. Khabarovsk is closer to Ekaterinberg, but is ice-free less of the year than Vladivostok.

Seatac and all the US West Coast ports are ice-free and are well connected with the rest of the country by rail and Interstate highways.

Anchorage is defensible and has two current bases there.

Of course with Hussein Obama as Commander-in-Chief any blunder is in order.

Putin had better worry about keeping the Chinese out of Maritime Siberia. The Chinese have a (faint) historical claim.

    Taxcutter says:
Crimea has easy logistical paths by rail, road, and sea to Russia. Not more than 100 km.
The Lower Donets Basin is connected to Russia by road and railroad.
A force nabbing Odessa is easily supplied by sea from Russian Black Sea ports.

The Tsar let Alaska go for good reason. It was the far end of nowhere to Russia. Still is.

Read a map. One with transportation lines shown.

Propaganda does not hold ground. That requires well-supplied troops.

take my words, its not that easy, i talk about functional economic . whats funny that wast think that all ends in Crimea or Danbas. Crimea is first annexation in 60 years, even Stalin did use this tool after WW2. post WW2 world order was broken by Putler once and forever. so what can stop Brazil from reaching Pacific ocean? or India to punish P-stan for 60 years of terror , Or China from annexation over the whole S China sea?

    Dude, quit kidding yourself.

Lithuania (and Latvia, and Estonia, and Finland, and Moldova, and Poland, and Slovakia) had better drop everything else and begin arming up to resist the bear or they'll be Russian provinces again. The US cannot intervene before mid 2017 at the earliest. The most Germany can do is protect the Oder river line even after a crash re-armament program. These little countries are on their own.

Their only real hope is somebody assassinates Putin before he gets the somnomulent bear woke up.
