I am not even sure that the claim that the US is the most successful nation in history would hold water but it would be interesting to hear arguments put forward to this effect. The Sumerians had a civilization that lasted over 3000 years ... we have a ways to go to equal that.

All in all the US was a good experiment for sure and had huge success. Past success unfortunately does not necessarily indicate future success.

Sorry, I was pressed for time, and did absolutely not intend to say that nobody else could invent things. The Western heritage we share is the true source of these things, but it seems that the degree of personal liberty which one enjoys allows them the most latitude to create and bring forth things that would not have existed otherwise.

We're getting pretty off-topic here. But two quick other points: 1, the term "American Exceptionalism" was coined by a French guy in the 1800's, and 2, Obama may use the words, but he does not believe them, and his whole project is to make America a third-world country, incapable of doing any good in the world.
