It seems as much a riddle as a question, but

How does one achieve global peace?

Seriously...as if you actually had the ability to make this happen, how would you do it?

Not possible as humanity is too flawed to think with such a collective rationale. One of the greatest flaws in humanity is intolerance and the need to be right at the expense of those who disagree with us. This is the essence of strife and I doubt humanity will ever rid itself of it.

Assume you were the type to not take "not possible" as an answer, how would go about it.

For instance, not thinking collectively is not a flaw, it's nature. Even if every individual thought the same, their different environments would force them to do different things or see things differently. What if you can use the natual inclination to variety in man as a means of projecting peace.

A man in the Christian Bible, known as the antichrist, the beast, 666, and one or two other names, will be able to accomplish that feat - as impossible as that sounds.

Start with myself and try to be as peaceful, loving, just, forgiving ... as I can. Then hope that others will follow suit.

Simply kill all of your known and potential enemies at once. It worked for King Asa.

That, supposedly, has been tried numerous times already. I suppose one could give it another try...or perhaps that you have a different method of doing this that may make some authentic and sincere gains in the world. I could only wish you well.

That has been tried as well.

I think the major problem is that it is extremely hard to kill "everyone". You enemies grow, they don't remain static. More so, you're enemies may one day arise from your friends or allies. Rome, Britain, and the US are great examples of the curse of great power. Power seeks to control, absolutely, and remain outside of threat, but in a constantly shifting world, threats always arise. The reason these empires become over-extended is not because they failed to see a simple strategic concept such as that, but because they are forced to try and control all circumstances in the world to prevent threats to their power.

China gaining ground. Gotta do something about it.

African's want to move away from the dollar...keep their own resources...gotta do something about that.

Middle East wants to nationalize their oil...gotta do something about that.

Some states to the south want to be Communist...gotta do something about that.

To the very powerful, every thing is or seems to present a threat to itself and so it believes it must control or diffuse the situation and so all of them end up trying to project this wide-sweeping, almost omni-present structure of control. You can't kill anyone because you need people to work in your new world-empire. You're stuck with the fact that you will always have to manage a larger group of very angry, disparate people looking to turn the tables on you.

Give everyone his own planet where he's the sole inhabitant. Then if a person wants to fight himself he can if he can't live in peace with himself.

I think two things have to disappear and get replaced by something superior: Capitalism and Democracy!
And I'm quite serious when I say this. Unfortunately I don't know what is superior. I just see the problems with both. The first makes "greed" into a positive human emotion and the second is two wolfs and a sheep arguing what's gonna be for dinner. The system we have is flawed...

seriously ,if humans had that kind of power to bring in Global peace. It wouldn't be unbelievable to know there would be those who would use their powers in a destructed way. Which means NO human would EVER or could ever bring on Global peace. Though man speaks of it, and believe one day, (in this world), it'll happen. They're sadly fooling themselves and others.

Satan is around ,(1Pet. 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour), and he as much hatred for humans, (Rev.12:12). Greed and control are two of satan's tricks he uses when it comes to humans. But there will be a time, (which I known MANY don't believe), when peace will come.

It'll be through Jehovah God and his son Jesus. First with a righteous new government ,(Dan. 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever).

satan worldly governments will be done away with. Remember when the first couple were created, there were NO man-made governments! Next, all those causing trouble on the earth, will be destroyed ,(Psa. 37:9-11). peace will return ,(Isa.32:18 And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places). And Much more will soon happen. peace

The world does NOT end. When Jesus Christ returns, there will be at least 1000 years of real, actual worldwide peace.

Most wars are started and continued out of greed. The wealthiest people decide how , when and where wars will be.

    No one can stop them.

There has never been global peace, there never will be.

Creating the circumstances to make war economically not convenient, this would force the establishments to avoid the military "solutions" of the international competition.

But it's not an answer, it's a transfer of the problem: which circumstances should be created?

Diffusion of high powerful weaponry, so powerful to make war impossible to win [for example to share nuclear tech]. But that would not be enough: also at defensive and offensive layer the countries should be at the same level. We should share advanced techs [stealth tech] to avoid that for some powers war could be still convenient.

More than one thing would have to happen for world peace to be possible.

The most important thing would be establishing a common view that violence does not aid in the competition for resources. This view would have to be shared by both the state and the population and all the states of the world would have to be the same in this sense.

Cultural identity would have to be secure and unrelated to political influence.

Sorry this is a little hackneyed. I think world peace is the only alternative to self destruction and I think there are plenty of forces working towards it. As long as its easier to pick a fight than it is to let go of a grudge though world peace is highly unlikely.

and you know this how? I mean apart from the old myths (books, etc), how do you know such a thing will happen? furthermore, since you seem certain of it, we must assume you know HOW it will happen, else you couldn't be sure. In that case, could you also explain how it works. many thanks.

so, a megalomaniacal despot will institute a totalitarian world government, then proceed to introduce peace by destroying lots of people he doesn't like. sounds awesome :blankstare:

in the meantime, would you explain how all this will be done, please.

100% with you on the first. the capitalist system as we know it is deeply flawed, and comprehensively doomed. sadly, those who feel they have something to gain from unbridled devouring are unable to consider what it'll feel like for those alive when the resources run out. this is why I always lean to ethics when questions like world peace come up. if most of us were ethical, in business and living, differences in religion, morality, and politics would probably not cause quite so many problems.

the difficulty is that greed is still so hardwired into us. survival demands we evolve past it, but we can't impose such things (which would be a step back, obviously, and would merely force greed underground). we can only choose it for ourselves, by living in a way which does not have as its end goal the acquisition of as much 'stuff' as possible. And by choosing not to live in a way which chews through 10 times the resources used by people in third world countries. This choice alone, dramatically alters the way we approach our fellows. Nothing is more likely to reduce hostilities. It's really very fundamental stuff, and can be done - even by 'spoiled' westerners. The problem is that most of us wilfully or subconsciously ignore it in favour of dwelling on absurd (but conveniently easy for the spoiled and lazy) platitudes like "if only everyone was nice to each other". In other words, ethics require substantial effort and change, morality doesn't. I can be delightful to everyone I meet, but still cheat on my taxes and buy a brand new car every two years. Easy. Completely altering the foundation of my lifestyle, so that virtually every waking hour is taken up with 'doing no harm' ... not so easy.

My argument is for both though. Democracy is very much flawed as well. Democracy would only work if all the people (as in all the people who vote) get the full and correct informations, which these days is never ever the case in any country. Every media outlet cuts the information and presents it in a way which includes comments. Instead of reporting the news they are now creating the news! But I think we (as in our societies) miss the entire point of a Republic. The republic I think is better in its original design because it was not designed for everybody to get a vote, but to give the (intellectual) elite the vote. I think too many people are too misinformed independent if the news comes from the left or the right. And I think to many people vote on issues they shouldn't allowed to vote on.

Why is our society in the year 2014 are we debating whether same sex marriage should be legal? This is insane! 98% of the people who are heterosexual have the right to change basic rights for a 2% minority based on sexual preference. This makes no sense. Democracy always punishes the minorities as they don't get equal votes and because to many people are too stupid and shouldn't be allowed to vote in the first place. My grandmother voted when she was 90. She had no earthly idea what or who she was voting for.

I think if we remain with a Democracy the first step would be that you have to get a license to vote, just to make sure you know the constitution of your country and the powers of the official you want to elect, your rights and the political plans of the parties or people running for the office. That should be the bare minimum, because to many people vote who don't know any of these things.

you make some good points about the innate flaws in the democratic system, but it's difficult to conceive of an alternative that doesn't also carry with it innate flaws. when living on communes, I learned much about the pros and cons of collective living, and while I still think it's the only morally (and ethically!) sound model for humanity, the practical application of it is difficult. as a result, I'm very much in favour of the Neering model for smallholder economics, coupled with a good solid barter system. not super keen on common purse, but do think common holdings in infrastructure and/or land is very doable.

As I pointed out, I don't know what can replace democracy and capitalism, but I'm sure that either or collectively, are not the standards of the future. They will have to parish eventually, and make room to something superior. Unfortunately the new good things usually come after major wars....

I agree with this, absolutely. The current model is unsustainable.

I hope we're wise enough and energetic enough to not need a world war to tell us we must act. The problem is that it's just all too easy to lie down and let it happen ... especially when the current model has us fooled into thinking we're entitled to ease, comfort, and unbridled consumption - as a bare minimum.

Probably the only thing that could unite the world together is some outside threat. Perhaps NASA could convince everyone that an asteroid will kill us all or that aliens are attacking. And "we've all got to work together" to stop it/them. Both narratives are already in the public psyche from movies and such.

how about the global catastrophe (environmental doom and a collapse of the current economic system) we're going to get anyway? why shouldn't it work just as well as an asteroid? I tells ya why .. because it's a creeping threat. it's easy to pretend it's not happening - after all, you're still eating cheeseburgers and driving to work every day in your climate controlled car, so where's the problem?

well these aren't my words, anyone who believes in Jehovah ,(the God of Israel Exo. 6:3). and Jesus ,who his Father sends believers to ,(John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me). Knows these are the one's who will bring in total peace. MANY don't believe because they were brought up to believe what we ONLY can see, that doesn't make Jehovah God and Jesus words impossible. And they most definitely don't think!, they have the power, the know! Question!, do you feel it's alright for imperfect man, to destroy another imperfect man?

What makes that man better than the one he's destroying, his race, the nation he's from?, yet they do it. For the most part man, wants to show another, i'm more powerful than you. Man claim they can make this world a better place, When is this suppose to happen? Especially since we can't even get our own selves together ,(Jer.10:23 -O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps). We can't do ANYTHING if it wasn't for Jehovah keeping us alive.
question, again, let's say some one comes into your house, a pretty good being. later for some reason he starts trouble, Upsetting your family.

You like the person, so you give him many chances to stop his negative actions. First with reasons, next with warnings, but he doesn't. Though you like him, You decide to just kick him out, would you be wrong in doing so? And did you do it because you DIDN'T like him? If imperfect man has the right to protect his home and family. Would it NOT be fair for Jehovah and Jesus to protect their human family against those who's causing heartaches. So though you were being sarcastic, I agree, it would be “awesome” , since that means living in peace.

Jehovah warns all of us to do right, so he WOULDN'T have to destroy us ,(Isa. 33:11). unlike one who'll just kick someone out, knowing they have a place to go. It's not the same with humans on a grander scale, where would they go? As I showed with scriptures, God will rid this world of those who's causing trouble against his people and against him. And of course humans can't actually touch Jehovah and Jesus in order to hurt them. But they can touch their hearts ,(Matt. 25:41-46).

i'm not Jehovah or Jesus, i'm just their servant and follower. ONLY they know how it'll be done. Jesus did says two things we as his followers should know. And both referring to when he get the ok from his Father to destroy ,(John 5:30 ,Psa. 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool , Rev.6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, verse 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? sayings of Jesus).

Jesus shows he will come like a thief in the night ,(Rev.16:15 ,Rev.3:3 and Matt.24:43,44). And because those who's not keeping a SPIRITUAL, watchful eye, (meaning making sure their trying to follow Jesus steps ,Luke 9:23 ,John 17:16), which can save them ,(Matt. 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved). MANY will be like those in Noah's time, who WOULDN'T listen to him. Enjoying their lives, when the end hits ,(Matt.24:37-39,But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be).

destruction will come to ALL who does not follow Jesus in worshipping his Father... as he did! ,(Rev. 6:15-17). And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?).

Sadly, NOT believing doesn't mean it ISN'T TRUE! Those in Noah's day, believe him once the flood came, But it was a little too late! peace
