I hear this stupid claim made ALL the time. That Tim Tebow was shunned by the NFL at large for no other reason than he is a "true" christian. Ill be the first one to state that I think anyone who makes that claim is a bit ignorant of how the NFL works, but I am curious what others think. Personally, the NFL would pay Hitler and Charles Manson if they could throw the ball and score touchdowns. At least thats how I feel. We see the NFL embrace thugs all the time. Just look at Micheal Vick as one example. But NOOOOO. Not the great Tim Tebow! They hate him because he is a christian!!!! I simply dont buy it.
I suppose you could see it either way depending on your perspective. On the one hand, the examples of Reggie White (his nickname says it all: Minister of Defense) and Kurt Warner would seem to indicate that the NFL doesn't care how public you are about your faith. On the other hand, given his relative success with Denver (pre Manning) he likely would have been a decent backup for someone so what reason other than his faith would explain the lack of interest by all teams? Maybe Tebow is a media distraction that teams are unwilling to deal with?
I assume he wasn't a good football player. But the media circus about Tim Tebow was certainly because he was a Christian.
He did not have the right tools to be an NFL quarterback. Case closed. Anything else is merely an excuse.
Possibly, but again, teams will put up with just about anything if they think it will help them win even one more game in a season. Point in case, again, Micheal Vick.
When I first heard about Tim Tebow, I got the impression he was a great football player that just did some religious celebrating. Fast forward a year later when teams don't want him and I'm like "wait, so this guy was only famous because he prayed in the endzone, not because he was actually good?" Seems the answer was yes.
I'd feel confident in to saying 98% of the NFL is Christian. . .so no. Saying a prayer for a safe game and the safety of all the players, classy. Saying a prayer to win the game and a little peep to god for scoring a touch down, not so much IMHO.
I'm waiting for the same paranoid nutters who fantasize that Timmy was blacklisted by the NFL for being an avid religionist to claim he was blacklisted for being white. It's about as credible.
Kurt Warner was very open about his Christian faith, so you can't really say the owners had it in for a player like Tim Tebow, who was also openly Christian. He was given a chance and like most NFL prospects, have careers no longer than 2 - 3 years. It's a tough business that is more about the dream crushing reality of a 2 - 3 year professional career, than superstars along the lines of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady who have long careers in the NFL. It's also one of the most over-hyped games out there when you consider the average NFL game only consists of 15 - 20 minutes of actual game play over the course of 2.5 hours. Perhaps another discussion for another day.
You're actually kind of proving the point, unwittingly, though. That in backwards modern society, being a murderer is more socially acceptable than being an open and out Christian. Now having said that, I don't necessarily think Tebow was blacklisted either. Although, I do think he was probably greylisted. The difference being that blacklisting typically means not getting signed at all. Whereas greylisting means you're not completely off the table, but most people will avoid you if they can find another option.
Of course he was blacklisted. Everyone knows the NFL is part of the Great Leftist Satanic Conspiracy. All football is, this is why all the coaches down to the HS level require their young charges to attend their Sabbats every Saturday just before the game. They CALL it a pregame conference but I have seen Youtube tapes that CLEARLY record chants of Hail Satan when played backwards. When will we all wake up and realize that only through blind obedience can we preserve our Precious Freedom
No. First, I don't think he was blacklisted at all. Second, he's not an NFL-caliber quarterback. If he was, somebody would have signed him by now.
You can do better than that! Try: 'He was blacklisted because he's f*cking WHITE, MALE, CHRISTIAN garbage'.... Doesn't that fit the hyperliberal, radical narrative more completely, and, satisfyingly...?
I mentioned on another thread that I had been acquainted with Matt Birk's family. He played for the Minnesota Vikings for several years, was as right wing as can be, is a professed Christian, and has been honored numerous times by the league for his charity work. He was even named NFL director of football development. Never once was he blackballed for his activities despite the fact he openly condemned the right to gay marriage and refused to meet with President Obama after a Super Bowl win.
He had multiple opportunities. Denver, New England, Philly. Had he agreed to try tight end or fullback he might be in the league. He insisted on QB and didn't have NFL throwing ability. Despite a highly improbable string of last second wins in Denver, and an overtime win against Pittsburgh in the playoffs. He couldn't complete a pass unless there was less than 3 minutes on the clock.
