Hey New Yorkers, remember in November Rep. Charlie Rangel wants to re-instate the draft and force your children into serving their country in a war zone, then tax you extra for your trouble. You go Charles! Force them into service for their country, they'll learn dicipline they never even heard of at home. I have to agree with Charles on this one. Hopefully New Yorkers will understand when their kids head for the middle east to do battle with ISIS.

The Democrats didn't care during the Vietnam war. And back then over 50,000 Americans died in that war.

I agree with young Charles. And Andrew Bacevich. All Americans should do service - either in the military or elsewhere. A draft sounds good to me. When more people have skin in the game the politics would change. And raise taxes by all means. Bush cutting taxes mainly for the wealthy while the poor and miiddle class went off to fight and die was simply immoral. If y'all want to fight a war then be prepared to pay the cost. Is killing Muslims so important you'd pay money and maybe lose a son or daughter? Or is it just more blahblahblah armchair warrior bloviating? Cowboy up, Amerika.

The Draft is antithetical to the idea of "freedom". To force someone to kill others and risk their lives against their will is pretty damn fascist in the truest sense of the word.

Charlie the Rangler wants more taxes; http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052970203946904574300013592601036...Ironic? Obscene? And how 'bout that 'draft' idea?. As it stands now, the Military is having a hard time getting people that want to/try to enlist that actually qualify. Too fat and out of shape, too dumb, too many tats and piercings, crappy attitudes. Charlie thinks that we should force these misfits on the military. We ****ed up raising them properly (well, someone did) now Charlie thinks they're capable of serving our country. But then, someone thinks Charlie is capable of serving it as well.

The children of righties are the ones that most likely already volunteered to go. Its lefties who cant comprehend that ISIS cant be negotiated with and sleep safe in their beds at night after mocking the very people who made that possible. Maybe lefties could fly over to Syria and negotiate with ISIS so we don't have to go to war. During the negotiation Im positive lefties will become righties. Or to be technically accurate Uppers and lowers.

    Typical right wing response.

Rangel is honest enough to tell people that real war has real cost and real consequencies.

Conservative politicians like Bush strated a real war and fought it by mortaging the future, borrowing 100% of the cost and press ganged the National Guard into fighting it.

All so folks like you could rant on bulletin board and wave your little flag.

You're all for blowing them back to the stone age as long as the extent of your commitment is only as deep as a bumper sticker.

I used to ask all the wingnuts who were busy cheering for Mr Bush's war how much in extra taxes they were willing to pay for the war they cheered for. It shut them up EVERY single time.

    - - - Updated - - -

There is not evidence of the former, and the latter is easily disproved by the fact taht all the righties are angrily ranting at Rangel for daring to suggest that if you want a war, you should pay for it.

    >>>MOD EDIT Off Topic Removed<<< We ARE at war. We never stopped being at WAR. Your constant deflection to Bush shows how (*)(*)(*)(*)ing desperate you are to cover Obama's ass. Bush has nothing to do with asking for more money to fund "Rebels" who support AQ. He literally wants to keep supporting people we are fighting in other countries. I can see why you wouldnt want to discuss that!

Actually, it would have us all waiting to see if Rep. Rangel would pay the tax.

True, true, true. War does have costs and consequences. Talk is cheap. As a nation we should have a draft and taxes raised to pay for the war. I thought true patriots were against government deficit spending/borrowing/unfunded obligations...............guess not. If a nation goes to war everyone should have skin in the game. Real simple.

Would you tax all people the same? Would you draft all people with the same requirement?

Like what is happening to the ACA? Playing favorites, special exemptions? I agree, sucks when government picks winners and losers.

Devil is in the details but, yes. No deferments for the sacred and all holy job creators or anyone else. They could do non-military service but no deferments. Everyone with skin in the game. Congressmcritters with sons and daughters in a combat zone. Ya sure, ya betcha. Gangbangers and stormfronters serving in the same we-are-all-Americans foxhole.I thought true patriots were all gung ho on service, duty, obligation yaddayaddayadda. I'm curious - who the f*** do you think paid for that Iraq fiasco george and Dick got us into? Talk about deficit spending. At least the 2009 stimulus went to Americans. Even wars have to be paid for.

"I would also like to see no deferments we know how Repubicans love to get out of serving their country"

Makes you look like a lying partisan hack you wouldnt want that now would you?

Conscripted service is NOT fair or democratic, it is however just like Stalin's gulags and his Four-yr Plan. He who failed on the Soviet Front would be met with death. Perhaps the Radical Left won't go that far, but who knows. It only takes a little power creep.

Actually I don't mind at all as I am not a Republican. I KNOW that all politicians -- with the possible exception of Jimmy Carter -- are scum. It's just that considering the nature of the dig offered up and the fact that he's again fronting his wife for the presidency in order to give himself a toe-hold on a third term as president . . . he's a currently IMPORTANT big name among the -- um -- risk averse regarding the concept of military service.

How would implement the war tax and what perimeters?

So, say 18 - 45 yo healthy citizens regardless of status? 1 exemption for religious objection? Male and female? What about all the illegal aliens enjoying the fruits of our nation? Higher education? What law would you use to prosecute the dodgers?

Wow. Who would've thought that FDR was exactly the same as Stalin for using conscription. And Truman. And LBJ. And Nixon. All mass murdering tyrants who meted out death to our own troops in Europe, the Pacific, Korea and Vietnam

No it didn't, it went into liquidated banks, failed "green energy" enterprises and whatever else I can think of. The Administration was so weak it kowtowed to feminists in the structuring of the "stimulus" even though 80% of women kept their jobs! It was 3 years before his re-election, 1 yr before the TP gained temporary relevance, he didn't need to croak!

But croak he did, all in the name of politics. Obama's the Jimmy Carter of our time.

Aside from the ideologically inspired fictions, fallacies, and phantasms (Cool alliteration, eh?) your post certainly does prove that George and Dicks war was completely paid for and therefore there is never any need to raise taxes to kill foreigners. A couple bumper stickers and a Made-in-China flag will do nicely, I 'spose. Har!

Honey, will ya git me another beer! I'm gettin' mighty hoarse yellin' at all these damn cowards on TV who won't git ta killin' them foreigners!

Rangel has regularly over the years pushed for the draft with tongue in cheek....he KNOWS Republicans don't want that....they just want the poor and desperate to be "cannon fodder" and they'll never vote for it...he's just wants to make a point.
