Bush served. He didn't have to make any further gesture of his respect.

When did Mrs. Palin become the GOP spokesperson? How much does the job pay? What are her duties?

    You don't know?

    That's what I thought.

I'm pretty sure if Mrs. Palin were here, she would be the first to say she speaks for herself and nobody else.

He didn't have his dog in his hand. Regardless, protocol is protocol, he could have easily switched the cup to his other hand before saluting. Do I think it is a big deal, NO. But apparently the armed forces do. And he is, for good or bad, the Chief.

    We did this one already.

However, the President isn't required to salute anyone, they salute him.
His hands were full, and it is permissible to do such things if you are required to salute when your hands are full.
Even with his hands full and with all the other things on his plate at the moment he still paid respect to the marines.

    In short: GET OVER IT!!

    OK, then.

Obama gives more respect to foreigners than he does to the US military. I mean, just look at his pathetic self, licking the dirt in front of this guy.

    So sad

I hope Permafrost Patty does run.

Little Georgie didn't serve. He deserted. He was assigned to a unit and never showed up. The Alabama ANG Commander (a registered Republican, by the way) had no recollection of him (and when a Washington big shot's kid is assigned, the command structure NOTICES).

Feel free to check the Uniform Code of Military Justice for the definition of desertion. It's on the web.

Military rule -- you smartly salute officers, superior officers, and the CinC. Military courtesy -- the aforementioned people return your salute. You never, never, never, salute with something in your saluting hand. But then most people know how to pronounce corpsman, it ain't corpse-man.

I was in uniform for 25 years and Obama's salute is not that much more nonchalant than I myself received from plenty of flag officers in my day. Ike Kidd's salute was more like a half-hearted wave. That was no big deal to me then, this is no big deal to me now.

Yea, Obama is the only president who has bowed to forieners, except for all the rest.

    Regan bowed to Queen Elizabeth

    Nixon bowed to Emperor Hirohito
Eisenhower bowing to the French president of all things!?!?

Um......might want to pic another pic to make your point. Bush is getting a necklace put on in the middle picture. Everyone bows when a claspless necklace is being put around you neck.

If holding hands with that guy is creepy then what does rubbing the shoulders of the German chancelor rate?

My bad on the necklace, didn't look closely enough at the pic I guess. I was unaware of the shoulder rubbing incident until now.
