I don't know about you and your spouse, but the check isn't that fat.

Even if you get the max, which odds are you don't, the max is only around $2,600ish.

What do you mean "odds are you don't"? How the f would you know? How weird to think you know something you couldn't possibly know...weird...

The POINT I was making is that the money just keeps coming and will keep coming...

And you must be one of those greedy grasping Wealth-is-God Repubs if you sneer at our checks...they make a nice fat cushion of fun.......WHEN we use them...

Funny, since 1976 I have wanted to invest my SS money in gold. And if I had been allowed to just look where I would be at today. And what has happened over that same period of time??? The Government in their wisdom has spent it all and given back (if that's what you want to call it) a WHAPPING 1% interest.

The same as my wife and I, but it's NOT that fat. If I had been allowed to, as I had wanted to do in 1976, invest my SS money myself, I could be retired now, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I am past the full retirement age and still having to work. And, if you will get your nose out of the air and bother to look it up, you will find that the government has spent every dime left over after that year's pay out, since 1965. And friend, I've been working full time since 1961.

SS was NEVER meant to live on...it is meant to be a supplement. WE were careful with our money and both retired early and live very comfortably .

IF you had invested that money you also could've lost it all .......ours is there, every month.

Gets excessively angry at statistically-backed claim:

    Feigns fury and outrage:

    Then proves me correct:

As the author of the thread has admitted, and others have supported... the left doesn't want you to control your own money.
They don't like the availability of options outside of governmental control.
"You could have lost it all !!" is their rationale.
Dependence on government is their reason.

I believe that the only time in the last century that the budget has been "balanced" was with Bill Clinton in office using S.S. borrowing as the means.

If republicans are voting to privatize, wouldn't that indicate that they no longer want the ability to borrow from SS.

It is true that both parties have done their share of "borrowing" from the SS funds.
Last I read, the government still owes repayment.

But.. this is even more reason to take this out of the government's hands.

Or at least make available the option.

    Excellent point.

And he had the help of the Republicans, everyone liked the idea of using money that was not theirs to spend to make themselves look good.

The suggestions I have heard did not call for the full privatization of SS but only allowing some to invest part of what they were paying in to other investments. Meaning they could still rob the funds whenever they see fit. I trust neither Party when it comes to where the money is going, not for SS or any other programs, they may spend the money on different things but both are more than happy to spend it.

And pay it back they should have to do, no excuses simply start funneling what was taken back to where it was supposed to go in the first place.

I really cannot argue with that point, but would need more details on any such plan before saying I approve of the plan or not.

I thought that was Palins shtick, you know death panels and all. So I agree, the Dems need to make up their own Lies and let the other guys have theirs. Just so ya know they are ALL Liars and just maybe one of these days we as a People will come to the full realization of what that actually means, then heads really will roll.

Asset assessment boards (she was correct) are completely irrelevant to the point.

"The GOP I going to STEAL YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY" has been a Left Liespeak bull(*)(*)(*)(*) meme since REAGAN, and it is as pathetically ridiculous a case of desperate fear mongering as it has always been.

Please list the House bill # for "privatizing" SS.

    Nothing but madeup bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

No she was not, but as you said another discussion.
There was not Bill, yet, they (the GOP) knew they did not the support in Congress and that the voters would be against it and that is that. Thing is we both know that is what some want and eventually they will get a Bill together and present it, let's wait to see what will be in it before making assumptions and accusations, that work for you or do you want to rant at me some more?
