Not really. 48% of the country doesn't pay taxes to begin with, so "low taxes" wouldn't resonate with them anyway. Romney was right.

I kind of like Bernie, and have for years. You never have any doubt where he stands on just about anything, and he does make a lot of sense. Like, with the massive transfer of wealth to the 1% and especially the .1% which does not benefit them or us. Think about it - when people have more money, they spend more; when they spend more, companies make more profits; when companies make more profits, everyone benefits. All that the greed generation of the last 35 years has done is to weaken this country for decades to come.

What's killing the country is a 19 trillion dollar government. All of the(perhaps rightful) talk of the 1% and absolutely ZERO talk of a government that takes more money and presumably would take even more money under a Sanders administration no matter how much he talks a good game about how all he wants to do is preserve and improve welfare for average Americans and not increase an ever bureaucratic Washington.

We have a 100 % Debt-GDP ratio, the first time this country's ever approached these numbers. The Debt Per Citizen is 54 K, and we think what we need right now is a bigger government, under the name of social progressive policies?

No, right now we need to liquidate our debt and get people's credit clear. That's the first order of business. I would cancel out all college debt, we need our young people to be able to study without having to go bankrupt in return. Think: Germany. And while yes, that's actually a policy to the Left it's a policy that will preserve the State in the long-run. What's more important than Education?

Secondly, we need a serious renewal and a focus on job training and opportunities in the US. Including enabling businesses to network with other businesses. Because employees may very well not be suited for this company, but suited for that one. If businesses saw themselves as mutual partners, as well as competitors then business as a whole would skyrocket.

Finally, we do need judicial reforms(just not those advocated by the Left, which is more reactionary than pragmatic). Not only avoiding incarcerations for relatively meaningless "crimes", but the danger that these "criminals" will evolve into more dangerous criminals once actually incarcerated. Incarceration should be limited and specifically targeted to those who truly pose a threat and harm to the community.

And of course, for those truly dangerous criminals it should be(and will be), much harder to get out. Just because there are low-level criminals doesn't mean we shouldn't discriminate between the two. This "discrimination" has the national interest of all our safety. Do you really want to risk someone convicted of armed burglary escaping and doing whatever it'll take to survive out on the streets?

I believe only low-level inmates should be in General Population, the rest should be segregated in cells and other "public areas" along with their fellow inmates at that level. The mixing of low-level and high-level inmates just defeats the purpose.

So the wealthy having money and spending it doesn't benefit anybody, but "when people" (because obviously the 1% are not people) have the redistributed money that the 1% earned, then all of society benefits.

    That about right?

With your support of a self-described socialist, are you willing to admit to being a socialist?

One word darling..PROGRESSIVES! Progressives are the one world government people, Progressives are for open borders and free trade, Progressives are for the global economy, Progressives are for outsourcing. It's ALL under the guise and scam of Social Justice and you champion it every single breathing day of your life. YOU vote the Progressives in, YOU support their agenda so suck it up, this is the country you wanted to live in. Deal with it. BTW, yes, Sander's is a psycho. He can't count.

    - - - Updated - - -

A country can't survive on buying things. We have to MAKE things and EXPORT things. Progressives made sure we couldn't do that anymore. Now go pull the lever for another Progressive then come back and complain about what they are doing like a good Dem voter.

It isn't enough to be "different!"

America is "different" today, but in a negative way where most major issues are concerned.

What this country should thrive to be is better than we we are today, and even better than the best democratic countries in the world. . .and looking more like Scandinavia would be a good start.

Why reject what works? Why not "pick and choose" what does work and what doesn't?

What we have been doing (at least under the last 40 years of Republican regime) certainly has NOT worked, and has placed us behind most of the social democracies that we so like to look down on!

    - - - Updated - - -

You do realize that you quoted the "OPINION" of a communist. . .not that of a social democrat, right?

I like Bernie Sandars. In a day and age where you have nothing but the cacophony of mindless talking points repeated by Republicrat thralls and shills, he stands as his own person. I agree with him on most of the issues he stands for. He's really the only candidate, aside from Elizabeth Warren, I'd consider voting for.

    Income inequality is a major issue facing all Americans. However, it's not even that, it's wealth inequality. Invariably, when a person starts talking like that, the word socialism pops out which causes certain groups of people to go ballistic beyond rationality with dire warnings of communism, et al. To that extent;

"When Stephanopoulos said Republicans were likely to jump all over Sanders for saying the U.S. should be more like Scandinavia, the senator said he has no problem with that.

"That's right. And what's wrong with that?" Sanders said. "What's wrong when you have more income and wealth equality? What's wrong when they have a stronger middle class in many ways than we do, higher minimum wage than we do, and they are stronger on the environment than we do?"

However, Stephanopoulos errs here when he points only to the Republicans who may have conniptions when it comes to socialism. There are many Democrat loyalists that are equally in deep with corporations as they drink out of the exact same money trough as the Repblicans. Neoliberals like Obama and Clinton and their democratic cartels are equally as alarmed. As the Democrats figure their Republican partners already have a trained army of obedient serfs to contain Sanders, they can keep quiet and let the Republicans do all the dirty work. Still, you can expect the Democratic apparatus to supply their friends with ammunition when needed. Can't take any chances ya know.

Scandinavia is a good model to emulate, that is of course contingent on a groups self-greed and their abject disregard for the well being of others. It's nothing I want to argue, unless I want to waste my time.

Yeah, Sanders will not win. The money is stacked heavily against him. A Sanders/Warren ticket would be better but her time will come. Just the same, I'd like for Sanders to thoroughly throw a fright into her majesty.

"Placed us behind" in what ways? What categories? Be very specific. Include numbers, graphs, and other substantive data if possible.

The 99% spend money. The 1% hoard it. Money actually does things when you take it from the rich.

Why single out Scandinavia? Why not look at France, which has socialist leadership and a 70% upper class tax rate? Wouldn't that be a better example to follow? Or is France's experiment with socialism ending up in failure too much of a downer?

"Bernie Sanders says he is the only candidate focused on the fact that the top 1 percent of Americans has almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent."

Finally, a populist who is willing to take on the oligarchs that bankroll the duopoly redistributing an unconscionable portion of the nation's wealth into their pockets!

The fat cats' lackeys are going to howl, and Hillary Clinton will tacitly cheer those nut boys on.

Most so-called "social democrats" are firmly on the capitalist side of the capitalist-communist spectrum. They are not socialists.

That's because Lenin was speaking in the context of early twentieth century Marxism. Democratic Docialism only came around long after Lenin died. Marxism states that socialism is a necessary and inevitable step towards stateless communism. Democratic Socialism eschews Marxism in favor of perpetual socialism through peaceful reforms and a moderate degree of market freedom.

Lenin wasn't even a good Marxist considering the fact that his dictatorship of the proletariat rapidly shifted to a new bourgeoisie and he skipped capitalism on the road to communism.

I understand how you'd make this mistake as a layman, but as someone well versed in communist ideology, I can tell you that it isn't true.

yes we should strive to be better , no one has convinced me that Scandinavia is better , I looked and the (R)s have not controlled everything for 40 years , I am neither and I see where both parties have done many wrongs and though distraction keeps most people thinking it is R's against D's

    Facts.

Lenin died in 1924. The concept of "democratic socialism" existed long before that.

Only if you look at the percentages of their income. The average rich family will spend many more times what a poor family will spend.

    http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/04/how-the-rich-and-poor-spend-money-today-and-30-years-ago/360103/

So it would be good for our economy to have richer families in America. Unfortunately, since the left has a political incentive in keeping people poor (can't really have a peasant's revolt when everyone is working and making a decent life for themselves), they've destroyed the family unit and instituted policies designed to keep people poor.

It's also why they feel the need to demonize successful people.

Exactly! But it is not the "runaway" capitalism cherished by the Right!
