It seems to me that we are not such patriots as we were earlier.
The global anti-american sentiment towards US is not a new, but I really don't know much about the impact of this in the american population, so I'd like to know if it really exists. If it does, how is the sentiment like and why it exists?

There is an anti-liberal progressive sentiment growing. It isn't just a little bit either. Lefties are going to be surprised come 2016. They ignored the mid terms and will pay a huge price. They will need to wait for a few more generations for folks that will fall for their garbage again.

I don't know how you define "anti-American". Often times people say anti-American sentiment is growing when they notice people saying things that don't reflect their particular view of what America should be. Some people want a more left-wing government, some want a more right-wing government, and others want complete anarchy. I don't get the impression that many Americans are rooting for China, Russia, or North Korea to overtake us, but they want us to change.

I think it is fair to say that it was growing strongly until Obama and, even though he's not turned out to be much of a President, he makes a nice change from what could have been a run of exactly the wrong sort of Americans being in charge for a while. Since then the fire has been taken out of anti-Americanism a bit.

There was a time that people just didn't disrespect the President the way they do now. I'm honestly still not used to hearing the nasty things some people say about the POTUS, let alone the First Lady. It's nasty and disgusting and indicative of the radicalization of politics that the US hasn't seen before -- not even during the Vietnam era.

I never cared much for W. Bush, but I never attacked him on a personal level. And the attacks I heard from others weren't nearly as nasty as the attacks I hear about the current POTUS. The climate has changed, and the media seems largely to blame for this new, particularly vicious, inflammatory rhetoric.

Listen to this "news" spot where the commentary is just a stream of personal insults directed at the President. It's angry and a disgusting lack of patriotism:

Several times she implies that the US has lost its luster while claiming that Obama is inept. Basically, she repeatedly implies that America sucks.

For perspective I'd consider breaking away from the Union and starting a horrific civil war to be rather more "anti-American" than what we see today.

But I do think that the edge has been taken off of patriotism. My basic feeling is that we're shifting in a liberal/progressive direction so the sorts of conservatives who had a giant flag in their front yard aren't so enamored anymore, and the liberals/progressives will never be satisfied or have that sort of patriotism. So it's dropping.

Although maybe that doesn't mean anti-Americanism is rising. Maybe it's just that the peaks and valleys of American opinions about America are leveling off, meaning anti-Americanism and patriotism are both sliding towards "meh, America's not so bad, I guess".

It's been growing for a few decades. We never wanted a police state and we're sick of living in one. We never wanted to hand complete control of production to a small group of "businessmen" who would betray us to communist China and we're sick of living in country that panders to them and forbids us to replace them now that they're gone.

The sentiment will grow and grow among the population. The government will do the bare minimum to appear that they are addressing our concerns. But they won't really change anything.

People might actually come out to vote for the next President and have some hope for a short while. But nothing will change. The protests will resume and they will grow more violent with every new wave of them.

It's true. When Barbara Bush was FLOTUS, you never heard the vile filth that spews out of the self-proclaimed "Christian" right.

It's normal. We're still paying for Bush's 2 wars, people are less than enamored with the daily egregious circumvention of Constitutional rights by America's "defense" organizations, and the wealth inequality is dragging down sentiment as well.

Actually I view it as a mistrust of government officials. Government officials are becoming so corrupt that the only thing they care for is money and power. We normal average citizens don't really have any real say so in the matter.

For example, Obama not listening to the people resiting Obamacare and not enforcing the border against illegal immigrants.

Virtually all of our political leaders are nothing more than petty tyrants who cares nothing for the constitution or doing the will of the people.

The problem though, is sometimes doing the right thing means going against popular opinion as well.

So it's is something of a mixed bag.

I'd say that there is a definite anti-American sentiment among the right.
They hate over half of their fellow countrymen and would like nothing better than to break the country apart with their secessionist ideology.

The US was the world's most popular country according to TIME magazine from 2009 to 2014, though Germany has moved into the #1 spot recently according to them: http://time.com/3583915/germany-us-popular-country/

The US has consistently been either the most popular country or one of the most popular countries for nearly fifty years.

I am more concerned than usual about where we're headed.

Sadly, just before my Mother died a few years ago, she was horrified by the direction things were going in, and said she was glad she would soon be dead.

Whatever our country does, it should be for good and moral reasons, not to steal resources from others at the expense of the stability and people of other countries. Having enough influence on the world stage to be able to exist in the world effectively and cooperate on mutual goals to benefit all sides is good, but going around stirring up conflict just to weaken other countries is dysfunctional, destructive, and unlikeable. I think we are doing some of that, even though our supposedly free media is so tightly controlled that many of us do not realize it. I see many of the manipulations used very clearly and am sick of them.

It makes me wonder about the loyalty to the US of those with the most power and control, and I don't mean the politicians that front for them or the people that have a few million that they worked hard for; I mean the real string pullers. What is wrong with those people? It is all about creaming money from the economy no matter how and no matter how harmful.. Additionally, if they will do those things to people in other countries that the neocons are up to, when can we expect to see things like that start happening to us? Of course the financial squeeze has been going on for awhile now; maybe now that we are so financially weakened they will take the next step. I keep waiting for the next shoe to drop.

I find myself feeling loyal toward my fellow citizens, but less and less to the extremely affluent, who increasingly discuss their plans to move to other countries if things take a turn for the worse here. They don't seem to have any motivation to make them better, by supporting policies and regulations that limit job exportation, etc., which in addition to job loss seriously weaken the country. We need to modernize our industries, not totally lose them.

Basically, IMO our true leadership is no longer patriotic; it may very well be that most are committing treason. How can you feel loyal to a bunch like that?

They may feel that striving toward a "new world order" with the US at the helm is patriotic, but I feel we need to concentrate on the needs of our own country first, and support a world which has several centers of power. After seeing how they have led us since the 1980's, it is clear to me that they have gone too power mad to do good to much of anyone, including themselves. The last thing the planet needs is to be run by that bunch.

How can the American People be anti-American?
Is possible that they are anti-fake Americans like the ones that created the Kennedy assassination, Vietnam war, other wars, 9/11 and stole trillions from the American People.

If you believe in The Declaration of Independence of 1776 mandate “to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them,”and to have “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind”, then you are American.

If you believe in the 1774 Declaration of Rights that said, the American People never consented to be governed, then, you are an American.

Really? Why do you say that?

I don't really think there's global anti-American sentiment. Most people still admire the United States.

There's always some idiot saying "*******n America", but the truth is the only problem we have is our government. The rest tends to equalize itself, but right now we have a nasty element holding the reins of power and they're not going to let go easily.

There's no anti-American sentiment here, that I'm aware of. Everyone loves this country. Some people want to "fix" it, but they still love it.

David Letterman said that she was a "handsome woman." That's the worst I've ever heard, and it was intended to be a compliment. Meanwhile, there are tons of insults directed at Michelle Obama, including many theories that she's a male. These scumbags find photos where there's an unfortunate bulge in a certain region or "scientific" evidence about one finger being longer than the other as 'proof' that she's a man. Since these scumbags are also insisting that the President is gay, I guess it makes for a perfect marriage?

You weren't paying attention then. The attacks on GW were just as bad. It's been a while since civility has existed in politics.

While I don't agree that the attacks on President Obama are any worse than those on President Bush, I do agree that my fellow conservatives are too rough on Michelle Obama. I'm not a big fan of hers, but I do think it's going way too far. I don't mind attacks on some of the things she's said (i.e. the first time I've been proud of America, etc.), but the physical stuff is just childish and mean.

As I recall there was even a leftist generated and produced movie wallowing in the wishful thinking portrayal of G.W. Bush's assassination, and our leftists were just fine with that; calling it culturally relevant. Those same leftists, mind you, would lose their rag if some rightwingers were to produce a movie wallowing in the same sort of thing in regards to Barack Obama.

On the other hand, I just read about this years ago and never bothered to watch it . . . and so I might have gotten the gist of it wrong. (Shrug) I do that from time to time. This is, after all, a hobby and not a vocation . . .

We are not as great a nation of 'posers' as we once were. The people (regular Americans) are for LESS BS these days; and they are right to feel that way. Some of the past brainwashing is wearing off, and that is a good thing... in my view.

We ARE a great nation, but for too many years we have ignored what's WRONG about America. We'd be better off by addressing sins and faults; still, some people don't see the value in that and don't desire to do the same.

One need not HATE their nation, to desire for it to be 'better' (in every way).

Truth is, what we see 'today', didn't come onto the scene overnight. Things like the decline in people wanting war, the decline of organized religion, the resurfacing of ethnic issues that many 'deny' AND only 'imagined' were resolved.

None of what caused or led to what we see NOW... is new. So, again, while I'm grateful to be an American, a Veteran for a lifetime and respectful of my fellow citizens... I KNOW we have problems woven deeply into our fabric and must be honest about what those are, so that we can mitigate or eliminate them.

Is patriotism blind devotion to one's country? Or can it co-exist with concerns about things taking place in that country, it's role on the world stage, etc.?

In my view, there's a difference between patriotism and nationalistic fanaticism. Too often, it seems people who don't subscribe to the latter are accused by those who do of not being patriotic - of being "anti-American".

In my view, it's possible to love the promise of what your country can be, for the principles it claims to espouse. I would say that being patriotic isn't about defending the nation from criticism. Rather, I would say that engaging in that criticism can be part of the process of trying to make sure those promises are remembered, and those principles upheld.

So-called anti-American settlement is the "child" of the liberal provokers! More sad that some people(i'm not talking about minorities who're always against government but about average people,) are listening their bull****!
