I've read a lot of stories and seen on TV reports of how much the GOP party hates Unions and blames them for a big part of what they see as problems with America's economy, so are there any members on here who belong to a Union, enjoy their wages, their 40 hour week, weekends off and having provided a Health care plan that was all negotiated by Unions, but when it comes election time they vote for Republicans who seem to have a history of dislike for organized labor and would like to see it end. Not sure why anyone would vote for the GOP against their best interests and see their $40 an hour job turn into $7 and hour on the Free market, work longer hours and watch their Weekends and Healthcare disappear, for what they perceive as the party who has America's best interests at hand, while Millionaires become Billionaires who get to keep a larger percentage of their earnings compared to the middle class. Are these people just stupid or am I missing something here. Be honest! just want to know what it is that you dislike about the Democratic party so much that causes you to vote for the GOP party who would like to see you work for slave wages
I think you are missing something here. Republicans, since the Reagan era, have been good at speaking to the working classes. Since that same time, Democrats have gotten progressively worse at it since they've drifted into identity politics. Worker issues on the left have almost vanished, as Bernie Sander's interview with Vox demonstrates. Also, even if you are a union member, even the dullest would have to recognize how unions have utterly failed to protect American workers, especially their own. Every private industry that unions have dominated has ended up being crushed and driven overseas. That makes the working class desperate. What good is a 40 dollar and hour job if it goes to China?
god, guns and gays, the southern strategy still in effect. people dont always vote with their wallets also racism plays a huge factor
Before I answer your question, what is your opinion on unions that have jacked up wages so high, companies have moved their manufacturing out of the United States. What has that union done for American workers??????
Why do you always interject race into every topic? Did a White kid hit you with a dodgeball in 2nd grade? It's old hat.
coming from someone who posts almost nothing on here but racists comments towards mexicans and black people that doesn't mean much
The decline of the middle class is the direct result of the assult on Unions! Funny how wages are stagnat but corporate profits jumped when unions went down.
do you spew this crap from the same mouth you kiss your mother with? false accusations, false assumptions... bovine excrement.
One thing you have to remember is unions demand higher wages so the union bosses can maintain their million dollar salary.
The left wants to take a union worker's wages and fund the day dreams of the Socialist International. The right wants to cut workers' wages and benefits and give the savings to big business. Working-class Americans have absolutely no representation in DC; which is despicable, because if not for the working class, this country would fold in a minute. There needs to be a third party in our great two-party-only democracy that defends the rights, and works to address the needs of the working class. As it is, they vote for the lesser of two evils.
So! where's the Republican voting Union worker I'm looking for, I'm a Union Natural Gas pipeline worker and I love the wages I make, I also love the 4-10 shift I work and the 3 day weekends, I also love my medical and I love getting 30 days of paid time off and 9 paid holidays and the protections my Union provides for me. My company still manages to make huge profits and I don't want any of these benefits to disappear and I COMPLETELY believe that the GOP party does not have my best interests at hand and that they're are only concerned with a small percentage of Americans who can pour Money into their re-election campaigns. They say that 50 years ago 33% of American workers were Union, now it's something like 1 in 10. A lot of Republicans talk about how awful the economy is right now, I wonder what they thought of America's economy 50 or 60 years ago when 1 in 3 American's worked in a Union shop. Was there EVER a time in America, when they thought the economy was booming http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2...ears-of-shrinking-union-membership-in-one-map
Unions are a necessary evil. Without them, we would all be working 16 hour days, 6-7 days/week. However, the unions went nuts in their demands, especially in their retirement demands. It wasn't just the unions though that drove business out of the US; it was all the insane environmental laws, and insane rules and regulations. Sane union and environmental policies, and sane rules and regulations would not have driven big business overseas. Union, labor, environmental policies and all the restrictive rules and regulations all need to be rethought and rewritten to entice business back to America. They should not be done away with though. The result would be--China.
As long as Democrats are allowed to import millions of illegal workers you will continue to0 have that problem.
I was hired at a place that had a union and I was not given a choice whether to join it or not. If I wanted to work there I had to pay my union dues. I can say from experience that union people are the laziest bunch of slackers I have ever seen. The first thing I was told after I got out of training and on to the factory floor was to slow down and not work so fast.
Except for their serious concern for the well-being of the fat cats, one constant truth to all conservatives and neoconservatives is their complete lack of empathy. Second to that is their undying confidence that economic disasters only happens to those too lazy to work, and so, could never happen to them. As far as a union worker voting Republican, it is simply because he (or she) knows for certain their value to the company is so great, their wage and benefit package is only limited by a collective bargaining contract, not enhanced. Anyone familiar with the posts written by right-wingers on these message boards have seen how often they speak as experts on all issues. There are already responses to your OP that illustrate this, and there will likely be more. It is surprising how the conservatives and neoconservatives offer up their expert knowledge in subjects that normally require many years of study. However, as staunch opponents of education, and because they listen only to what their politicians, pundits, or egos tell them, they believe themselves able to speak confidently and without contradiction on economics, all branches of science, history, constitutional law, the very thoughts of the Founding Fathers, theology, the experiences of other people and societies foreign to them, and many, many more subjects. Just read posts in several threads, and this pattern becomes obvious. You will see the right-wingers' consistent refusal to accept reason, logic, empirical data, and undeniable facts. .
Good heavens man. Working on a natural gas pipe line that can explode any second and kill millions according to good democrats like Obama. You should hid your face in shame!!!!! You should immediately start working on solar energy panels made in China, since making them is too expensive here in the US due to union wages. Can you say Solyndra????? Even the fool Obama couldnt prop them up!!!!!
The wealthy pay most all taxes. You get paid based on what kind of profit you can generate. That's business and economics.
Racism, you mean a stereotype that actually fits with statistics behind the stereotype? Back on topic Americans have collectively caught the downs as a society. We are more worried about a lion dying thousands of miles away than The Iran Deal (It just keeps getting worse), PP profiting as a non-profit, a SCOTUS that admits to not adhering to the constitution.
