I don't think you understand. Perhaps eventually what I mean will become clear later.

For now, I'll just say... I tried.

    Regards.

Why don't you answer his question? I'll tell you why you won't.

If you take it to its logical conclusion it points out the inconsistencies and flaws of your partisan line of illogical and unreasoned thinking. It would hold a mirror up to your face and you wouldon't like what you see. So you compartmentalize because you fear the lack of character your ilk demonstrates. You can not confront your own flaws, you are afraid of what they might be. So you stagnate as a person, content to be stuck in your igno rance and lack of critical thinking

Besides the fact that it is on topic, if the check is written to 'Merica in whose account is it deposited?

Either answer the question or admit your ignorance by default.

I don't understand which people you mean when you use the word "society". You say that "the market" (not sure which people you mean here) owes "society" something. Which people do you mean when you say "society"?

You claim that the "market" owes society a portion of the benefits from operating within. Which particular people are "society" in the context of your statement?

I will admit, that I cannot explain it for YOU... not any further. I've been in conversations where GROUPS of people have understood.

So, maybe later we can go further.

People will always be taken advantage of. The main object of business will be profit.
Mandate fairness, high wages, coffee bteals, emploer paid healthcare....mandate anything you want and see how many jobs and how much prosperity remain.

The top 5% pay 90% of all income tax.
Isn't it funny that we act incredulous when corporations relocate to other countries?
When my children say "that's not fair" I reply with "life isn't fair. Whoever told you that lied."
You quote Darwin, survival of the fittest and espouse some hopeless, romantic, utopian ideals. It is enigmatic.
If you think jacking minimum wage up to 50k a year will fix anything, you completely fail economics.
    Such a proposition is asinine.
Whatever illusion of security government temporarily provides is not real.
Darwin was right. Environmental selection is still at work. We have Redbox. Blockbuster is gone. Landlines, long distance...replaced by the Iphone and Verizon. Network TV, radio...XM, Netflix. Adapt or die.

Now why on earth would American politicians want the populous to understand economics? That would be self defeating.
You can graduate magna cum laude and have no idea America is a Constitutional Republic. They want an ignorant, dependant mass. It is much easier to control.

    It has never cost jobs.
Jobs are cut because there is no work.

Today, cuts to the bone already exist.
But the matter is that raises in Min Wage bump up all wages immediately.
You can't pay $10 to min wage earners and not bump up the people above.

The really great thin is that prices rise, and the GNP goes way up.

    What's good about that?
    EVERYTHING.

Taxes are based on around 20% of the GNP, regardless of how they decide to who to tax.
    The Budget will get paid.
Chinese money will not be borrowed.
The deficit can be paid down from $18 trillion dollars.
Cities and States will get money and stop borrowing.

Of course you can't just raise Min Wage way up and not allow prices to also rise.
Nor can you push up wages without allowing for a slow plan to let everything adjust to accommodate those raises.

But EVERYTHING normally doubles in value every ten years anyway.
What happened in 2008 was everything stopped doubling.
It is still almost stopped now,

    2008 killed the Consumer Index.
    Nobody wanted to spend.
So, raise salaries and things look too cheap to say no.

You know what I daydream about.... The fed attempting to restrict or police our Internet use....
I believe that would shockingly wake nearly every American from our complacent lethargy.

    Of course it does.

By increasing wages, companies must get rid of workers to support specific others. For example, Phil Corporation employs 100 citizens at $10.00/hour. Phil Corporation is not very massive and does not have very much capital for salaries. Then, the government decides to take part in the company and force wages higher. The government forces them to pay $20.00/hour. They cannot afford to supply all original workers with jobs because they would quickly go bankrupt. They fire 50 people which all become part of the massive percentage of people who are currently unemployed.

No, everything does not normally double in price every decade.
Mandating increased wages may be technologically beneficial. Assembly lines at Micmey D's will replace people with machines to do menial, repetitive, unsilled burger building...modeling auto manufacturing lines.
Robotics don't complain, ask for no breaks or benefits and never call in. Or perhaps government should take over business. After all, they are masterful financial stewards.
You talk about the American recession with no mention of the mass over extension of unsecured credit. Bogus, inflated property appraisals. No mention of the impact overnight, sky high health insurance premiums on themiddle class.
Your great idea fails to assess the global consequence to our currency.
Heck, college grads in the US still have trouble finding jobs and good pay. ..
    And

I can think of two reasons. The moral crusader believes it is immoral to accept less than a minimum, thus insists that anyone accepting that $5/hour is acting immorally and hurting his fellow workers. The other possibility is that they think low-skill workers are simply intellectually incapable of determining what is the proper wage, so they will always be taken advantage of. It is up to the moral crusader, then, to interfere with the evil business person who takes advantage of those stupid people.

The idea that people can decide for themselves what is right never crosses their mind. Is it any wonder that minimum wage is rooted in eugenics?

    - - - Updated - - -

Huh. We hear from your type that if a business owner can't afford your moral minimum wage, then he doesn't deserve to stay in business. What moral right does the worker who can't find a higher paying job have to that higher pay?

    - - - Updated - - -

So, in your mind, those people are intellectually incapable of making their own decisions. They need to have decisions made for them by moral crusaders such as yourself. Really, you are no different than Carrie Nation. You just have a different target for your do-gooderism.

What is the "market"? Is it something that can owe something else? "Market" is just a conceptual label for the countless economic interactions between individuals. Similarly, "society" is a conceptual label for an aggregate of individuals. Neither are things that exist in reality so one cannot owe the other. Logically, what you are arguing, is that individuals who engage in economic transactions owe other individuals who are not party to those transaction some amount of compensation for the privilege. So, who should they make out the check to?

In my mind (and with some basic understanding and long-term experience as an American)... some decisions made with the collective society in mind, is best for the same.

And no, it's not so much a matter of morality, but the ability of the nation to function well.

You can dislike my view and disagree, but that is where I am with this overall.

No one seems to tell people about this amazing investment tool that all the rich people know about, but every ten years the GNP doubles, which is a measure of how much stuff cost in America.

Income Taxes are figured out to e 2% of this GNP.
As things double in cost, across the board, wages also double.

Here is a chart which illustrates how the Gross National Product increases every ten years:

    Yeah.
Business is supposed to find ways that labor costs them less.
    That's no problem, though.

In 1960, Banks realized that they would have to hire a whole army of clerks and tellers unless something like the computer was invented.
What happen then was The Computer Age arrived wit a zillion other jobs.
Some body has to make the robots, too, don't forget.
