How much of each ones actual earnings? I would also remind you neither is making a big deal about giving to charities.

Trump said he attracted such large audiences, 24 million, that CNN gets a freebie for nothing here.
Trump said CNN ought pay charity at least, because he is working for them for nothing.

The money would not go to Trump, so technically he is not getting paid. Although it does amount to a bit of extortion. I read where CNN is charging 200,000 for commercials whereas they would normally get 5,000. I do not begrudge CNN that, charge whatever you think you can get.

It looks to me as if Trump is trying to make up to veterans which he lost a lot of their support when he dissed POW's by telling CNN to donate to Veterans groups. Whether successful or not, he still has lost me. Trump is media savvy, something the rest of the field is not. Whereas the media plays the rest of the field, it seems Trump plays the media. The question is how far will this go? I think his supporters support the man due to his charisma and not because of his ideals, ideas or visions.

Then too, he knows CNN is likely to ask him some tough questions that Fox would not. Using not donating to charities or in this case veterans groups is a good excuse for skipping the debate and the tough questions. I imagine his supporters would cheer him skipping the debate and his support wouldn't erode. I'll tell you this, the audience CNN would draw without Trump would probably be about a quarter the size or even smaller than with him. Trump is the draw.

So will CNN cave in to his demands? I will be watching to find out. I hope not.

Charity is fair for CNN and the people who need it.

I'm very familiar with the Palos Verdes Peninsula, it's my old stomping grounds. We just call it PV, it's where went went with our girl friends when we were teenagers to watch the submarine races.

While I may not personally want Trump as the POTUS, I have to give him some respect for this move. Challenging CNN to donating to charity for him to appear just might make CNN look bad to some if they don't. Come on, how much more heartless can a network get than by not donating to a charity?

Also, like others have said, Trump is what will get the ratings in for the debate. He is one of the more popular candidates out there and to not have him appear would bring in far less ratings. So this is a smart move from Trump (one of the few that weren't obnoxiously presented). That's just my $.02

Liberals rarely mention about the money they donate to charities because they rarely donate to charities.

Now Hillary Clinton donating to the "Clinton Foundation" one has to wonder if Hillary is just laundering Arab or Muslim Brotherhood donations ?

Trump brings audience and CNN has cashed in by increasing advertising rates by forty times normal rates. Trump has asked CNN to donate the windfall to Vets.

That strikes me as perfectly reasonable. Do you have a problem with donations to Vets?

He is probably the most-hyped candidate running right now. If CNN wants to see a single soul watching that debate, then they'll give him the money.

Drumpf is a 4th rate loser afraid to face Conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt who he called 3rd rate.

This scam exposes the fact that Drumpf is STILL a Liberal. Drumpf is quite generous with other people's money.

Are you kidding??? Upper hand? If anything CNN should do us all a favor and restore some dignity to American politics by banning DT and his name from this debate and all future reporting on the presidential race. The guy's a blowhard and people should stop encouraging him.

What a joke. I'm amazed at how many people don't get this. Did you grow up watching MTV's "Real World" and think that it actually reflected the real world? Trump does not even want to be president. Anyone egging him on is wasting their time and feeding his already overinflated ego. He'll be out of the race before Christmas.

CNN isn't doing anything really. In my opinion, they are performing their obligations as a media outlet to the Nation(of course, given the god awful literacy in even the Media these days you have to wonder if the media is really actually useful). If Trump and the other candidates wanted, they could easily host a debate, find someone else to be the cameraman and bingo.

This of course does feel like an excuse not to participate in the debate, but it's also true. Don't you Liberals believe "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need?" Not that I believe in that extortion, but since the Left does it should follow course and donate to charity. It's for a good cause, right?

Poor fool, still thinking the corporate entertainment news networks are about providing useful, insightful, and truthful "news" to the public. That is scary.

Hew is running for the highest office in the Nation and debates are part of the process if he thinks HE is the one that is the only draw then HE should sit that one out and see if the ratings drop through the floor. Me thinks Trump is only displaying his own Narcissistic and over inflated Ego he is well known for.

Unfortunately the news networks are about showering us with whatever the lowest common denominator likes. Some of us still demand better from them even if we don't expect it.

Oh I think if they refuse the ratings with be pretty high to see what the others say about it during the debate and how CNN handles it.

No network should let any candidate play such games with them.

It doesn't cost billions to offend Trump.

Most of us would only have to give him our two cents.

This is NOT a Trump/CNN event. It is an RNC/CNN event and would not doubt that the RNC gets some revenue off of it to fund their campaigning. Trump is in no position to dictate terms. If and when it is his campaign again a Democrat opponent then he will have some say in the terms.
