It's Scottish slang for getting stabbed, and can also be used as a name for a bladed weapon.

"Oh god, he's got a chib!"
    "Damn, he chibbed me!"

I use my real name on all forums I participate in. It's a vote for transparency, direct representation,
and taking personal responsibility for whatever I say, post and share with others. That is what I want
from govt, so if people are the govt, then people like me need to set direct examples of the kind of
leadership that redresses grievances instead of censoring them, and communicates to research and resolve conflicts instead of benefiting from them politically.

"Statistikhengst" is a name that a couple of my best buds gave to me one evening during a round of whisky as they were reading my politics blog and noted my great passion for numbers and electoral statistics, and so they dubbed me with this name.

    :D

I read a couple of Norman Harper's books on Doric and don't remember seeing that term on either book. Just looked it up and you're right.

Simple: I like the mathematical properties of the golden ratio, and it's represented by a Greek phi.
And I chose lowercase because it looks cooler.

I'm a retired police officer, and I just finished watching the Deadwood series before I joined the site. I liked the character in the series and did a little reading about the real Seth Bullock.

Well, there's "inertia", which denotes the whole "objects at rest or motion tend to stay that way unless acted upon by some external force" thing. People I associate with can't figure out how the internet figures into that principle (they claim I'm doing something that appears to be nothing). I spliced in the "tw" at the front for two (2) reasons: the first is they're my actual first and last initials; second, it's a run-on of "twin", which brings in a random duality that could afford me the possibilities of doing something and nothing simultaneously.

Hiya Sheriff and welcome to the forum.

I read your bio a couple of years ago - unlike so many of those law "enforcers" of the past you had a commendable record of incorruptibility. Good of you to be unprejudiced so that you were able to forge a good friendship with Sol Star who had been subjected to some prejudice because he was a Jew.

Am planning on visiting your trading post in Deadwood some day - perhaps we can chat, then.

Well I had another account before this one, but I forget my password. When I was on that account another member said I was like William Walker. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Walker_(filibuster)

So I decided to take it on as a badge of honour and use it as my username around the internet. It is now a somewhat famous name on another forum, which I have just been permanently banned from today. So that is why I am back on here.

I called myself "PreteenCommunist" two years ago because I was a preteen and a communist. And also someone with a great imagination.

Forgetting I'd already made an account, when I rejoined I intended to call myself Вера Павловна (Vera Pavlovna) after the protagonist of "Что делат?" (What Is To Be Done?), one of my favourite books and also the namesake of Lenin's famous pamphlet. But I already had an account, so now I'm stuck with a boring name. Meh.

'Dissily Mordentroge' just popped into my head from I don't know where when signing a snail mail missive to a friend and it's stuck.
