Fun. Is it going to tell us about how the BBC was given a script that told them how to report 9/11 because apparently they're too *******n stupid to report major international news without a script?

First let's not blame cops for decisions made by district attorneys. 2nd there are more than a few state's in which this law is under review and it ought to be. There should be no circumstance under which people guilty of no crime ought not to get their stuff back immediately without having to file forms in triplicate with half the legal profession in town.

I am not blaming cops for what DA's do, I am blaming each for what they do independently.
The theft of nearly 5 billion dollars of the publics assets per year without due process is no small matter.
It is corruption on a scale that makes the US on par with the worst third world legal systems.
And the fact is it will not stop until the majority of Americans are aware it is happening, so how about we stop downplaying it and email our Congressmen?

Should we start insisting on a fixed Standard for social justice?

Abuse of power. Same thing with government telling people who they can hire and serve with their businesses.

There was actually a story about this in the Australian media the other day. It seems there's a big difference between how the US does this and how it's done in Australia. It's far more difficult here. And so it should be.

While I wouldn't advocate going so far as to call the entire justice system corrupt to the core like the the thread author has, stop and seize style actions are clearly illegal if no formal charges are being brought to justify that seizure. I'm fine with seizure in situations where wrong was done, and especially seizure of property or money gained through illegal actions or the revenue from them. But as always, taken to the extreme every good thing can become bad. I'm glad to see that some legislatures have started to take notice of this over-extension of the law. I hope that more do.

I see a lot of hysterics in the article, but not much based in reality. Like most other propoganda articles, I am sure they leave things out. In all my years doing this job I have never seen money simply confiscated for no reason whatsoever. Period. Not once. I have seen and confiscated money in relation to large quantity of drugs, drugs packaged for sale and/or people with firearms. There has to be a reason for that money to be discovered in the first place anyways. You can't just stop a car and search it, there are legal steps that must be taken. With that said I have also seen people get their money back, without all the court hoopla like the article states.

Now, I am not saying that these things can't or didn't happen elsewhere. Crazier things have happened. It's just not as common place as you and this article would like people to believe.

I understand it perfectly, thank you. Like I said in the above reply, this is not something that happens where I am. I am not saying that it can't or doesn't happen elsewhere, but it is not as commonplace as this article would have you believe.

So you deny the statistics without any proof.... The fact remains, cops are stealing more than criminals... Therefore cops are the biggest criminals in the country.

Stop with the hysterics. First of all, it is not ALL crimes, the article says just burglaries and only the year 2014. Authors sure are great at cherry picking numbers and "statistics" and gullible people like eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lastly, just people a few people who had large sums of cash removed for "no reason" (their words, I sure there is more to it) it doesn't say anything about the rest of the money? Like I said earlier in the thread most of that money comes from large scale drug dealers, gun runners and other crimes.

You do realize that almost every police force has random and frequent drug testing.

And in professional athletics most they usually get is a fine and suspension. In Law Enforcement you get fired. It is something that is rare, but I have seen it happen.

I think a better argument would be many cops are alcoholics. That is synonymous with law enforcement jobs and much more common unfortunately.

That's because performance enhancing drugs are not illegal in society whereas cannabis and coke are

I agree, but those performance enhancing drugs (like steroids) are illegal to take at least in my department. You can be fired if they find any trace of it in your system. Also, the list of those types of drugs is always changing and updating to the latest performance enhancing fads.
