Prior to the Championship games we had a poll and no one picked the Denver Broncos to win the Super Bowl. http://www.politicalforum.com/opinion-polls/440654-pick-super-bowl-winner-2016-a-3.html After a stunning upset of the Patriots the Broncos are in the Super Bowl along with the Carolina Panthers that were the favorite choice in the previous poll. Let's give in one more try knowing who the two teams are that will be playing. I would suggest that people vote based upon either a rational argument or simply because they want one of the two teams to win even if they don't think the team has much of a chance. It's been an excellent season and the final games have been worth watching. Even the seven-turnover meltdown of the Cardinals against the Panthers was a game worth watching just to see Cam Newton play one of his best games ever. In any event this is our last time to pick a winner based upon emotion or logic so let's give it a whirl and also explain our reasons for our selection.
I think the Panthers are going to make Manning look like an old man, not that I'm going to enjoy watching that happen. The Broncos D will keep Newton to 27 points or less, but that will easily be enough to win. 27-17 Carolina. Or thereabouts.
I actually agree with the analysis because I don't believe the Broncos defense can stop Cam Newton and the Panthers even though it's the Number One ranked defense in the NFL this year. It was the Broncos defense that defeated Brady and the Patriots and not Payton Manning. I don't think the three man rush and dropping back eight into coverage, which is how Denver defeated the Patriots, is going to work against the Panthers. Based upon analysis I have to agree that the Panthers are probably going to win but emotionally I'm going to pick Denver because I'd like to see Payton Manning get a Super Bowl ring before he retires. As unlikely as that appears to be I can hold out hope because any team can be defeated by any other team in the NFL on a given Sunday. A couple of mistakes by the Panthers, such as an interception returned for a touchdown, can easily result in a win by Denver. I don't think it will happen but I can hope that it will. For me it's all about Payton Manning getting a Super Bowl ring. I have no doubt that there's a Super Bowl ring in Cam Newton's future because he's just that damn good.
Possibly correct but Denver still has the #1 ranked defense in the NFL so I don't foresee a blowout. The Denver defense won't let that happen. We can note that historically it's been the best defense that wins the Super Bowl. Not always true but generally true when it comes to the Big Game.
True but Carolina has a pretty fierce defense as well, if they an get Manning uncomfortable then its a wrap. I do not see Denver containing Newton the same way.
My Panthers are gonna wipe the floor with Peyton and his geriatric band of losers. Won't even be close. (disclaimer: I am contractually obligated to say that, since I'm a lifetime NC resident)
Yep I did it to the Patriots. Totally my fault. I put the bad jou jou on the offensive line and Brady got to spend quite a bit of time examining the turf up close and personal like.
Gosh, I sure hope the Panthers win. Bronco fans are insufferable. I picked Carolina to win because A) Cam Newton has been nearly unstoppable this year, B) While Denver's defense has been terrific this year, the Panther D has been equally great, C) Peyton Manning is not even close to where he needs to be in order for the Broncos to win this game & lastly D) I will literally NEVER hear the end of it if Denver wins this game. Anybody who lives in Colorado & is not a Bronco fans knows what I mean. What scares me the most, is that it is sports/football & anything can happen. But I think if Carolina loses, it will be the Panthers beating themselves. Go Panthers!!!(Please, please, please!)
I don't disagree. I can't see the Denver defense containing Cam Newton even as good as it is. As I mentioned my selection of Denver is purely emotional because I'd like to see Payton Manning win the Super Bowl once. It would be good for professional football for that to happen. I don't believe it will happen but I'd like to see it.
panthers win this game. Two years ago the Broncos might have the superbowl with this much more physical defense they have now with wade phillips as the defensive coordinater now.they had neither one of those two things back then. Too little too late now though because the Broncos back then won with an offense that made up for a swiss cheese defense. Manning missed open receivers in the end zone which was why the game was as close as it was.He also always goes into panic mode and gets scared in the big game so this is a no brainer.I tried to spell that out to people around here two years ago but it just went through one ear and out the other with people around here though. there must be some people around here who have an extreme love for Manning because incredibly, they STILL have not learned from their mistake two years actually picking the donkeys to win.some people just never learn around here. last time two years ago, everyone here almost were all picking the broncos to win. No matter how many times I spell it out to them that Manning panics and gets scared in the big game against top notch competetion,it goes through one ear and out the other with them around here because they obviously have a mancrush on Manning. The one time he won the superbowl was against a team that had no business being there. It was the bears defense and special teams that carried them to the superbowl that year. The Bears D was on the field all day long that day because their offense had so many three and outs because rex grossman showed his true colors in that game. where is grossman now? thats right, a washed up has been.Is he even a backup anymore? when manning faced a future hall of famer in Brees,he choked. When he faced the best defense since the 85 Bears two years ago.he choked. Newton is one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Not a washed up has been named Rex Grossman. doesnt take a genius to see the donkeys lose again. like i said, some people never learn around here though incredibly.
I don't think this will be a blowout. The Broncos have a better defense and a better quarterback, but their run game will hurt them. I'd give this a slight edge to the Panthers, but a blowout would surprise me. The other side is that with early leads I think the Broncos have a better ability to come back. But I much prefer the Broncos win. I'm salty over the Patriots loss, but I think Manning deserves to go out in style. I think this is the ring he's been waiting for to leave.
Last Saturday was a big game and Manning took the Denver offense down the field in a systematic drive of 80 yards for a touchdown. I didn't see him choking at all and he looked very good. The game was close because of the backward pass (lateral) that resulted in a turn-over inside of the Denver 30 yard line. Three different times in the final minutes of the game the Denver defense held on 4th down and also turned the Patriots away on the 2-pt conversion attempt that would have tied the game. Yes, Manning missed a few pass completions but most quarterbacks do. He didn't appear to be rattled and he didn't throw any interceptions. Manning looked pretty good all game long. Of course Cam Newton is a remarkable quarterback and I don't see the Broncos defeating the Panthers but I still see it as being a much closer game than many might expect. Denver's defense is #1 in the NFL and as mentioned Wade Phillips is probably the best defensive coach in football. When it comes to the game the Denver defense matches up very well against the Panthers offense. Many experts are mentioning the game will depend upon how well the Panthers defense can contain Manning and if they can force turnovers. If Manning isn't pressured and if he doesn't throw interceptions it could be a very close game. Underestimating Manning's abilities would be a great mistake even today.
the guy DOES panic and get scared in the big game against top notch competition. Like i said, the one time he won in the big game was against a defense that was on the field all day long because their quarterback rex grossman showed his true colors missing wide open receivers with so many three and outs because of that. Grossman is a washed up has been ever since. Is he even a backup anymore? lol I think because denvers defense is much better than two years ago it MIGHT be close this time but in the end,you can count on manning for a pick six when the game is on the line as he did in the saints game choking at the most critical time. Denver wont have the luxary of having that noisy rambunctious crowd with them in the playoffs, that 12th man and the altitude were big factors for them in the playoffs as well as critical blunders by the pats and steelers. you'll see.
I think you have to make Carolina the favorite, but it would not surprise me if Denver's excellent defense makes it a good ball game. Manning has been impressive in the two playoff wins over Pittsburgh and New England in that he did not beat himself and came up with some good plays in key situations. My guess would be a close, low scoring game. Carolina 17, Denver 12. So, take Denver and the under.
According to my calculations, Carolina maintains a probability of 59% to win the game, with Denver at 41%. Strictly a head to head comparison, with no spread involved. Emotionally I'll be rooting for the Denver Broncos as I have a sister there and have visited the area many times. They are solid football fans going back to the "Orange Crush" days. I'm less familiar with Carolina and their fan base, and as Cam Newton has many productive years ahead of him, this wont' be his last Super Bowl appearance. This will be Peyton Manning's last appearance, would be nice to see him go out a winner. Emotions aside, Carolina is favored and is on paper the best team in the NFL at the moment; a win would be icing on the cake of a stellar season.
I generally agree with this analysis of the upcoming Super Bowl with one caveat. Cam Newton is an awesome quarterback enjoying his best season ever in many respects. He's only had 10 interceptions during the 2015 season but he's facing the NFL's top ranked defense. A single interception for a touchdown could result in an upset win for the Broncos. In a close game a turnover can be huge in determining the final outcome of the game. Of course with Cam Newton's bullet delivery and precision passing game we can't expect an interception but anything can happen and often does happen in the Super Bowl.
