How did you come up with your online name?

Hogmanay is the last day of the year, what Americans call New Year's Eve.

Mummers were traveling entertainers, music and singing, through out Europe. They performed many times a year, and if you were lucky, a special show on Hogmanay.

 

Just by chance. I've had a lot of them over the ears. They generally don't mean much.

 

I just reused a name I have on another forum.

 

Gaius Marius was one of the greatest Romans of all time. Probably one of the best generals ever who both knew how to win battles and to reform the army and equipment. Having served as a low rank officer probably gave him insights many generals before and after never had.

Besides... He is unknown to many as other Romans are better known.

 

Great question and a perfect opportunity for me to explain my user name as many seem to have heartburn with it.

I chose "Sane Centrist" not so much for political reasons or my political slant or view.

Seems like whenever I make a post people jump all over me and tell me how I'm not much of a "Sane Centrist" because my views are heavy on the left. (which they're not)

My definition (which is the only persons definition that should matter) of a "Sane Centrist" is someone who is centered psychologically.

In other words I consider myself to be a sane, rational thinking person who isn't extreme in any one venue or politically, so it speaks to my "frame of mind" more than it does my political ideologies or which political camp I'm in.

People like to attack my name when I write something they don't agree with or disturbs them, but that's silly because my user name doesn't "distort facts", and I find that "facts" in here bother a lot of people when said facts are not on their side of an argument.

 

It just sounded catchy and was available when I first obtained it.

I have also gone by the moniker of... SecondSon2nd1.

That was derived from the fact that I am the second Son of my Father and my Father was the second Son of his Father (My Grandfather).

There is no such thing as sanity... There is normal and abnormal, but that really depends on society or cultural norms...

Sanity is really nothing more than a societies expectations....

 

Be that as it may, I consider myself to be everything highlighted in bold my friend.........

Sanity is defined by culture, community, socially etc...

What is normal in one culture or community would be considered bat(*)(*)(*)(*) crazy in another....
