I live in earthquake country and this is the first I ever heard that a dam causes an earthquake.

And that said quakes are 20 miles from the dam, yet for some odd reason the blame is on the dam.

I can't explain where China has their earthquakes yet know they have a large share of them.

Some of the worlds documented major disasters are in China where hundreds of thousands can die in one major earthquake.

I'm not dismissing you. The article makes a good case for a causal relationship, but the jump to triggering a massive earthquake is another leap entirely. I would like to know if the number of small earthquakes has gone down or is going up--that might tell us something.

So, a major earthquake happened in China well to the north of the "long river" as the Yangtze river is known as.

If you are at the site of that earthquake and need to get to the Yangtze river, you need to travel more than 13 hours.

 

Frankly, I won't lose sleep over that dam project. And will not fret they will suffer earthquakes.

Small quakes are a good sign that large quakes are far from nearby in time scales.

The worst quakes mostly come with no warning at all.

If the dam 'blows' (and in my opinion it is just a matter of time) millions of people will be "endangered", and probably killed. That might lead to a massive uprising. There were protests after the last major quake China had that killed so many school children because of shoddy construction techniques. The Chinese people won't sit quietly by if the dam breaks.

You can go into denial about the world's largest dam (which is starting to crack in several places) if you would like. It makes no difference to me as I am Chinese like I believe you are.

It might, and it could be a major problem for the CCP, but I'm not going to dismiss the accomplishments of the CCP on this alone. There's simply no question as to how effective they have been, especially Deng Xiaoping, since the 1980's. What they have accomplished is unprecedented, and they deserve a lot of credit for it. They are also nationalists (in reality), which is at the core of their success.

I'm not Chinese, but I studied China and Mandarin while I was in college. I also studied in Beijing for a bit, so I have more appreciation for the Chinese than most Americans.
