Nothing changed. You have always been free to say merry Christmas.

No, YOU are missing the point. The holiday was originally the Pagan celebration of the Solstice. Christians stole it. Christ, if he even existed, was not born in December.

You sit and spin on that point, buddy.
    It's a non-starter for everyone else.

I think it is the Christians who want us atheist to be forced to work on Christmas and not have time off to celebrate the Holidays and look at me with disdain if I say Happy Holidays and try to force their religious beliefs onto the rest of us claiming theirs is the "reason for the season" and other such attempts to totally hijack the holidays as their own.

I'm 54 years old, a bit cranky, and I no longer give a s---. I'm going to say Merry Cristmas and if that offends some people, so be it.

I have too little time left on this planet to worry about snowflake feelings.

When were you ever not able to say Merry Christmas?

I said it in every Christmas for the past 8 years (and before) in one of the most liberal cities in California and people have been saying it back to me.

War on Christmas is a fake war.

    Happy Holidays...

The only people who are angry and pissed off and acting offended are conservatives, when you tell them Happy Holidays.. Never seen one post on facebook about liberals mad about Christmas,,, but see all sorts of conservatives spewing anger about the "war on Christmas".. being angry over stupid things seems to be a trend with conservatives.

People professing Christianity who don't even have the spiritual balls to say merry Christmas?

    Devil worshippers, more like.

No. For atheists who celebrate Xmas (like my family), there is no more Jesus in it than there is Pagan sentiment to Christians. It just isn't relevant ... other than in a little historical sense.

Does your family give or receive gifts?
If so, you are emulating the giving of gifts to Jesus by the three wise men.(the very reason for gifts on Christmas)
I suspect true atheists wouldn't be caught dead accepting a Christmas present. But then again, some people believe a new toaster oven or bottle of aftershave is more important than holding true to their alleged values.

What "values" are you talking about that you do share with those of us who do not believe in supernatural beings? And you also believd gift giving started with and is unique to Christians?

You demonstrate the true war that goes on this time of year.

I'm as conservative as we get around here and I'm not angry and say merry Christmas AND Happy Holidays, whatever I feel like.

What? When I was a kid and got birthday presents, it was an evil secret religious plot?
    Oh the humanity!

But.......I have to agree........I'm not sure I share many "values' with people claiming to have none.

I don't know about you, but I'm celebrating New Year's Day. You do know there's numerous holidays all within the same month, right? I don't do Christmas, and I don't know most people well enough to know which one they care about the most, so... happy holidays!

They are concerned about public displays of religious celebration, and rightfully so. I'd say such displays are constitutional as long as local governments are willing to equally display any religious monuments / decorations requested. The Satanic Temple has every much a right to have monuments to their faith displayed on public grounds as any Christian church. Such requests for "counter displays" (as you call them) are important as they test a local government's adherence to the constitution.

The Christmas story is messed up on so many levels.

Joseph & Mary were supposed to go back to the home town for some bogus reason. Upon their arrival they don't head for the relatives' hovel but try to get a room at the local flea bag hotel. That in itself goes against all of the traditions about hospitality, especially toward family members since Joe's family would have at least given them a spot on the dirt floor. So right away Jesus is depicted as an outsider and the them is repeated in Matthew 8:20 (NKJV) = "And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”"

The theme is restated in Matthew 13:57 (CEV) =
"So the people were very unhappy because of what he was doing. But Jesus said, “Prophets are honored by everyone, except the people of their hometown and their own family.”"

That helps to explain why Joe & Mary didn't bunk with Joe's relatives. They didn't accept the tale that the Holy Spirit had knocked Mary up and that the baby was the son of God.

There are several other passages that restate the idea.

Imagine the typical parents' response if their daughter told them that the "Holy Spirit" had knocked her up. They would tell her that she was full of BS and some would slit her throat on the spot. But here we are in modern times and people believe an ancient ethnocentric Middle Eastern religious fairy tale without a second thought. I think that is an example of insanity.

I also have been saying it every year. But it is prohibited in many offices and workplaces across this country. Directives are given to avoid the greeting. Which means, the store clerk hasn't been allowed to say it back to you, or the customer service rep you were on the phone with couldn't return the greeting either. The fact that there is a push-back has resulted in a newfound freedom of expression that was inhibited in the past.

Yet, every year there are people forced to remove their Christmas decorations for being offensive. The thing about so-called "atheists" is that they only hate Christians. I've never seen atheists go after Buddhists or Zoroastrians. So it becomes very personal - warlike.

Anyone can celebrate their religion who wants to. However, Atheists seem bent on ruining Christmas, rather than celebrating their own day - if they even have one. It would be as if Christians all insisted on putting up nativity scenes on Vesak or Ramadan. It isn't offensive that someone may have different beliefs, it is the attack on Christian holidays that is offensive. The Satanic Temple can follow their own beliefs, invent their own special days -- they don't have to try to interfere with Christians.

However, the thing I find to be disingenuous about Atheists is the fact that they are obviously people who were raised Christian and now have some chicken bone stuck in their throat about it. They never try to argue against, or malign other faiths, only Christian faiths. By their actions, it is obvious they are stuck in some uncomfortable place and are fixated on an imaginary enemy.

I don't take any offense to those who wish me a Merry Christmas. I have no idea why some people get so bent out of shape when I wish them happy holidays. So much weird PC bull(*)(*)(*)(*) on both sides of the political aisle.
