But wait///I thought the idiotic claim was that these ships are somehow more vulnerable in four separate ports than at sea...

So hard to keep up with idiotic arm chair admiral claims..

It's not an issue. Most nations on the planet manage to not be destroyed without having a single carrier battle group.

Due to logistics, there were a few days where most of our carriers were in port...and the US still far outclassed every other military in the world in war making ability.

Most nations dont have nukes either but we are not most nations. For good or of ill we are the nation everyone in the free world looks too when (*)(*)(*)(*) hits fan and we are on our own at those times. Nobody out there will come to our rescue and we should be prepared for anything at all times. I have nothing to prove in this thread on this subject and have only asked repeatedly for some logical explanation as to why having all our carriers out of commission at the same time is a well thought out plan. It's obviously a huge (*)(*)(*)(*) up and unfortunately as in all government bureaucracies nobody will be held accountable. Your "move along folks nuthin to see hear" line does not fly with me so we will just have to agree to disagree.

Guess you missed the reason that all of them would have been inport at the same time, yet again. Yes, those carriers might all be inport at the same time, but for different reasons. Some could have just come back from deployment (meaning they are still battle ready and can deploy if required), some are just getting out of shipyard (or going in, meaning they may or may not be ready to deploy), and the rest are on sea trials, meaning they are battle ready and gearing up for deployment by practicing with ship functions and aircraft launch and recovery.

So.............your false narrative of saying that the carriers can't deploy if something happens is wrong. Yes, they might all be inport at the same time, but they are there for different reasons. Some are just coming back, some are just getting ready to go out, and some are getting ready for repairs.

Try again. Unlike you, I actually served in the U.S. Navy as a Personnelman from 1982 until 2002.

<<MOD EDIT - Rule 4 - Calling out another poster>> One thing you need to remember when you speak disdainfully of us civilians is many of have have served at some point in our lives, especially my generation when the draft was up and running. Very few of us in working class America avoided going to Vietnam and it may even be fair to say that in 12 months there we understand more about how the military works and or doesn't work than in your 20 years of luxury in the peace time Navy. I do hope you are right though in your assessment of the situation this threads based on.

Time to send this thread to the stupid conspiracy forum

Doesn't change the fact that I served for 20 years, whether or not you think I speak like someone who did. Why am I disdainful of civilians? I'm not disdainful of all of them, just the ones that look at the surface of things and fly off the handle thinking that the world is gonna end, without bothering to ask an actual military person to find out what is REALLY going on.

As far as saying that you understand more about the military in 12 months of service in Nam than I did in 20 years of peacetime. Got news for you..I served in 4 war zones. There was Beruit back in '83 (you remember, the one where 256 Marines got carbombed), where we were fired at by artillery, there was Desert Storm (both Pt.1 and 2), in the early 90's, and then there was Kosovo in the late 90's. I was in all 4 and drew tax free pay and combat pay while I was in those zones.

But like I said, just because a ship is inport DOES NOT mean that it is down for something. It might be as simple as taking a short break between sea trials, might be just coming back from deployment, or going in to or out of the shipyards.

No......................there will NEVER be a time when all 11 of our carriers are down for repairs at the same time. I assure you that there will always be at LEAST 5 carriers ready for action if necessary.

I hope this puts your fears to rest. And, if it happens again in 15 years, you will know that it's not because the ships are broken, it's because of the way the rotation runs.

ABikerSailor, can you name anyone day between 1982 to 2002 when you were in the Navy when we didn't have a Carrier Battle Group at sea ?

I'll even go further, can you name any time between 1982 - 2003 when we didn't have at least three CBG's in their assigned AOR ?

Last Wednesday it was announced that the USS Carl Vinson ( CVN-70) was going to depart San Diego for a West-Pac training cruise. But would remain under the command and control of the 3rd Fleet which tells me that the Vinson is going to sea not being combat capable ("mission capable" is what the Obama's PC Navy now uses so landlubbers remain low information.)

The Vinson will only have a three ship escort, one cruiser and two destroyers. Not even enough escorts to be classified as a Carrier Strike Group.

Scuttlebutt from San Diego last week is that it was a political move in response to all of the news on social media that all of the Navy's carriers were in port and for the first time in over 76 years the U.S. Navy didn't have a carrier at sea.

Dunno about the specific questions that you asked, because the only commands I really paid attention to were the ones I was currently stationed with. In order to answer your questions about battle groups and their areas of responsibility, I would have to go back through the deployment schedules of ALL carriers for those 20 years, and I don't have the time nor the inclination to do the research.

However....................I WILL tell you that I saw all 5 Norfolk based carriers inport at the same time back in Jul of 1997 when I was stationed onboard the USNS CONCORD (TAFS-5), and a lot of people who were civilians got scared about it and made a big stink in the papers.

And hate to tell you, but "mission capable" IS "combat capable", even if it's just on a training cruise. Went to Rio back in 1985 on a UNITAS cruise, which was also a training cruise. We went down to practice with the other member nations, and we spent a couple of months running battle drills with navies from 5 different countries. During those exercises, we not only ran general quarters drills, but also formation and gunnery drills. In short, everything we would normally do while on deployment, it's just that we were practicing with other countries.

And, did you ever consider the fact that the Vinson might be going over there with only 3 ships, because they are going to do battle drills with ships from other countries like I did on a UNITAS cruise?

Better tone, thank you. If you would have approached this subject in the first place in a professional like way instead of sounding like a typical snotty liberal I would not have been so confrontational with you. You actually have some good knowledge on the subject and I'm here to learn as well as give my opinion. I'll drop this now, I think I have said all I have to say on the subject. Have a good evening.

Yeah, but what if they're in on it? You're assuming they are for Trump. Do you know for sure?

So now that the US has carriers back at sea, can we agree that the Rightwingers in this thread were paranoid idiots who have zero credibility?

lol. I'm sure military, veterans and alternate media outlets jumping all over it, to the tune of 10s of millions watching for it wouldn't have had an effect on anything.

Right. Obama was going to conduct a false flag attack and destroy our carriers but it's only the actions of your brace keyboard commandos that stopped him.

I knew you would go down this road when it became clear you were wrong. In fact, I predicted it way back on page 2:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/political-opinions-beliefs/489981-obama-recalls-all-aircraft-carriers-setting-up-u-s-something-big-2.html

You guys are so very predictable. Unable to admit your paranoid fantasies are wrong, so you construct a fantasy almost as big to avoid responsibility. Hard to know if its funny or sad.

For the safety of the nation and its ability to defend itself, as soon as Trump becomes president, he and his Sec of Defense should disperse these carriers ASAP!!!!!

Psst Hey Genius, they actually did keep all carriers in the harbor and haven't done that since WWII. That's why I said it wasn't a good idea.

What part of that don't you understand?

Psstt.............hey genius, I was stationed onboard the USNS CONCORD (TAFS5) which was berthed at pier 4 in Norfolk VA, and it also happened that all 5 Norfolk based carriers were all inport at the same time in July of 1997.

Why did it happen? Just the way the schedules for the carriers worked out.

Psst. Cite your proof with a link that we didn't have a single carrier at sea during that time or admit you just made it up.

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-...ii-no-us-carriers-are-deployed-anywhere-world

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/n...t-happened-since-world-war-ii/article/2611007

That's my proof. Your word means nothing if you can't back it up.

Didn't say that. I said that all 5 Norfolk based carriers were inport at the same time back in July of 1997.

And, here is the article that debunks the claims, as well as tells you when it had happened before. Like I said, I saw it happen in 1997.

And where did I say only Norfolk carriers?

The OP said they were all lined up in a row, which was a lie. They were in 4 different ports, 1 being in Japan.
That lie was debunked. It happened before this and after ww2. So yes, thanks, I am a genius compare to the tin foil hat wearers.
However, I understand you thought ww3 was going to happen before next weeks inauguration.
    How will that crow taste?

You BS about believing ww3 is really really embarrassing for you.
But there's still a few more days for the conspiracy theory to happen.
But not all carriers are in port any more.
