Trump said Mexico would pay for the wall. I am willing to accept that would include reimbursement.

So he is starting to take action to build the wall. OK - that is keeping a campaign promise.

But here's the thing - he also said Mexico would pay. He had a specific campaign promise about it and said he would take action to make Mexico pay ON DAY ONE. Again, I'm willing to cut him a bit of slack because he said he would do a lot of things on Day 1.

Now that he is taking action on the wall, there is nothing to prevent Trump from implementing his campaign policy to force Mexico to pay AT THE SAME TIME. Why wait until later? He had a policy in place that he said would start on Day 1, so what is he waiting for?

The only explanation is that he is kicking the can down the road because he knows his policy won't work and Mexico won't pay.

Likely Trump will be taking up the issue with the Mexican president this week, at a WH meeting already scheduled. Now Mexicos El Presidente' had this to say to media: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/m...otect-immigrants-inside-united-states-n712321 So I'd suspect the 50 Mexican consulates will be boarded up in short order. Mexico can best support these immigrants by providing them a warm reception once deported. Vaya con dios ... :wall:

Mexico can pay directly, or indirectly. Does not really matter.

All this (*)(*)(*)(*) about 'building a 2000-mile long wall' when a mine-laying operation would have resolved the problem in a week or two, and at a fraction of the cost.

It would be 'barbaric' if they weren't told the mines were there. Typical liberal - no answers of their own but always quick to trash someone else's.

If you did even an ounce of paying attention you would see I'm about as non liberal, and liberal bashing as they come. But I'm not a barbarian. Your suggestion is barbaric.

And I gave an answer...the wall. Try to keep up.

Is the DMZ in Korea "barbaric"? Do you dispute the need, or the effectiveness?

It might be an answer to a question but it isn't an answer to the dilemma. Try again? Tell me why you think my idea is barbaric??

You've made 300+ posts, and in the prodigious volume of posts on this site I might (or might not) have read 2 or 3 of them, so what is it that I'm trying to 'keep up' with?

Forming an opinion of me without the slightest clue as to my political views, and your opinion couldn't have been further from the truth...that's how you need to keep up...by knowing who you speak to.

As far as how it's barbaric? We want to keep them out, not blow them up. Surprised that even needs pointing out.

I'll ignore your peremptory first remarks and ask you again what will keep out the illegals, because a wall certainly won't. They'll only get 'blown up' if they're dumb enough to ignore the warning signs, in which case they deserve to be blown up, don't you agree?

What do you expect from a President who allows torture as working tool too?

But you are telling exactly the correct point: Aside fact that the US has still a wall to Mexico installed which is highly guarded by border patrols, it does not prevent the illegals to enter really or why does Trump want to build a ... obviously better wall then? How will he prevent the illegals at least if they ignore the wall as still doing?
Some trolls will here for sure answer things like minefields and gun use ... or what things should be done then?

No I don't believe the deserve to get blown up for trying to enter our nation. Jailed? Yes. Sent back? Hell yes. Prevented? You better believe it.

A wall will help prevent many if built right. Not all, but many. The rest will be much easier for the border patrol to find and catch due to the wall and proper monitoring of it.

It won't completely fix the issue but will help massively.

Well from reading that - you might not think of yourself as a liberal, but I sure do. We're talking about 2000 miles here, and very determined illegals. Trust me, it won't make the slightest difference, and that, of course, makes the wall totally pointless.

Quite right. What cerberus is saying is that trying to get into the US illegally should be a capital offence. Or perhaps a maiming offence. If that is the approach, why send them back if they manage to make it across the land mines? Just line them up and shoot them.

The DMZ in Korea is completely different. It separates two countries that are still technically at war with each other. It is not aimed at civilians. It is aimed at the North Korean military and it represents an exception to the US pledge to eliminate anti-personell landmines.

As you say, the idea of putting landmines on the border with Mexico is barbaric.

You know, there are also walls in the history which are pure propaganda works to calm people, but ultimately only effective like a front yard fence. Important is only to waste tax money (or does anyone really seriously believe that Mexico will pay the bills and workers and guards?), his idiotic promises fulfilled, and having marked the strong man in front of the hated media.

The real result and effectiveness counts then not at all... and with art of statistics, everything can be beautifully calculated afterwards!

Trump can levy a tax on all money transfers to Mexico.

The Israeli wall seems to be working pretty well stopping children strapped with bombs from crossing over their border. Perhaps we should bring in some of their experts to advise us.

Wastes tax money? Ignoring the fact that taxes will be spent feeding, housing, and educating the NEVER ENDING stream of illegal aliens, doesn't warrant thoughtful consideration?

Congress authorized the funds and the wall in 2006.

Ooooh! Now I understand the smart step of Donald !!!!

He does not let the country Mexico pay for this comic wall, but finances the whole with tax fields and saves it with government expenses (so also tax money) for illegals inside the USA ... so a 0.00 counting IF he can safe same amount as the costs of the wall are.

That does it mean, if he always says "Mexico will pay the wall"? OK ... so country of Mexico does not pay the wall but the illegals who illegally committed it to the wall. All right now ... but why does he not tell this correctly then?

He has. US media can't sensationalize the truth. Here's $10bn already invested, by Obama, on NOT fixing the problem. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_Columbia

No, that's not the only explanation. Trump has now been made aware that the legislative activities necessary to get Mexico to pay for the wall will take a year or two to get in place, and he's not willing to hold off on construction until those activities are complete. Will there be a wall? Yes, I believe so. Will Mexico pay for the wall? Yes, I believe so. Is there a problem with the way Trump is now approaching the problem? Not in the least.

    Si. Gracias.

Exactly. Indirectly is actually preferred by President Trump, because it allows construction to proceed while Mexican financing is hammered out.

That's one way. President Trump has already outlined several specific ways that this can be done.

Your mine-laying operation has merit. However, many people will object to killing those who are trying to make it across our southern border. So how about this: instead of a mine designed to kill or mame, how about one designed to incapacitate or designate? One idea might be to disperse a dye that can help to track an individual (the kind that the banks used to use to tag robbers). Or maybe put out a sleeping gas of some kind together with a signal indicating a location. Then just have trucks roaming along the border, picking up sleeping people and taking them back across the border to sleep it off. There are a myriad of ways in which to make use of non-lethal mines, many of which might prove helpful...

Excellent point. The Israelis are the experts here, we would do well to listen to what they have to say on the subject.

Yup. Funny how we've never heard complaints about that wasted money. But money used to build a wall? Heaven forbid the wastefulness...
