Well, that's a fair response. Let me counter with this. I'm not for letting everybody in. I don't think the left is in general. A lot of people are rejected. It isn't easy to get here, and because so many want to come, it shouldn't be easy. People may not know, but the process isn't inexpensive to many. And even if you have relatives here it's far from being guaranteed that you'll be able to come for a visit, let alone get a work visa. So, my complaint about this latest proposal by the president is that it seems to be directed at a particular group, namely hispanics, and it seems to be designed to cater to his political base. Now, he has the right to pander to those that elected him as long as it's legal, and we have the right to try and test these attempts at change. Further, it's my opinion that this has zero chance of becoming law.
White folks don't let their culture go, so why should anyone else. Germans, Italians, Greeks, Poles, etc. still practice their customs. My folks came here in the 1600s and I cannot name on African custom, hell I don't even know what part of Africa my folks came from so I am fully "Americanized". Now someone who just got here two weeks ago do you think they have given up the old customs? I played baseball also, but we were not allowed to join the Boy Scouts. That was reserved for the white kids. That's because your family was mainstreamed into American society, there was changes made to the Constitution for my folks to try and become completely American. LOL, that's because you don't have a clue about Germany. Had you come here from Germany you will still speak German and practice their customs, but since you have never been there you don't have a clue about German customs.
Its simple, back in the 80s and 90s when immigrants from Mexico were being used as cheap labor no one whined about Mexican immigrants because rich folks were getting rich off the cheap labor, but when they started demanding equal wages then all of sudden came the whining of them taking jobs and milking the system and blah, blah, blah.
This is rubbish. I am not a Trump supporter, but this is very sensible - probably the only sensible thing he has done. You need to look at how this works in other countries such as Australia. In Australia, which uses pretty much exactly this, by far the biggest group of people that move to Australia are trades people - bricklayers, carpenters and others or medical professionals, mainly nurses.
The difference is the law. While you are following the law, many do not. They come here illegally, they obtain an illegal ID, they work illegally and draw government benefits....illegally.
"Bring skills and speak English" could just as easily be applied to lots of native born white Americans, too.
As I point out, their are no language requirements attached to work visas. Citizenship is where it applies. Mexico has a Spanish requirement for Mexican citizenship.
Were there 12 million of them taking jobs? Why do you assume everyone who has a problem with illegal immigration is rich? A lot of Americans used to make a decent living in the construction industry, framers, masons, sheet rock guys, etc. Now they are mostly illegal Mexicans, in my area. It's the responsibility of the federal government to protect this nation from foreign invaders. Right now our laws promote the invasion and millions of Americans are suffering because of it. Why does so many support the invaders over your countrymen? As far as legal immigration goes how many immigrants a year have to be let in to please you? Why is requiring an immigrant to speak English a bad thing?
No, they want us bound by the intent and underlying principles, given contemporaneous cultural and technological advancements.
No and that's kinda the point. She claimed that eliminated those types of workers would eliminate low wage positions, but as you amazingly seemed to decipher, those jobs never paid well and almost certainly never will.
To me it sounds good in theory. Other nations have similar requirements to get in...Speak the native language and have skills. For example, if you have a teaching degree...New Zealand would love to have you immigrate and apply for citizenship.
It is only one of the criteria that gains you points you can not speak English and get enough points still.
"The bill, sponsored by Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and David Perdue of Georgia, would institute a merit-based system to determine who is admitted to the country and granted legal residency green cards, favoring applicants based on skills, education and language ability rather than relations with people already here." https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/02/us/politics/trump-immigration.html "More than one million people are granted legal residency each year, and the proposal would reduce that by 41 percent in its first year and 50 percent by its 10th year, according to projections cited by its sponsors. The reductions would come largely from those brought in through family connections. The number of immigrants granted legal residency on the basis of job skills, about 140,000, would remain roughly the same. Under the current system, most legal immigrants are admitted to the United States based on family ties. American citizens can sponsor spouses, parents and minor children for an unrestricted number of visas, while siblings and adult children are given preferences for a limited number of visas available to them. Legal permanent residents holding green cards can also sponsor spouses and children. In 2014, 64 percent of immigrants admitted with legal residency were immediate relatives of American citizens or sponsored by family members. Just 15 percent entered through employment-based preferences, according to the Migration Policy Institute, an independent research organization. But that does not mean that those who came in on family ties were necessarily low skilled or uneducated. The legislation would award points based on education, ability to speak English, high-paying job offers, age, record of achievement and entrepreneurial initiative. But while it would still allow spouses and minor children of Americans and legal residents to come in, it would eliminate preferences for other relatives, like siblings and adult children. The bill would create a renewable temporary visa for older-adult parents who come for caretaking purposes."
So how do you know they didnt have a working knowledge of English too or woukd have qualified with the other citeria?
