Should prove interesting, with the last bit of NaughtyFunTime we had last week, to see the rabid foamings of former Thuper Trooperth pop up round about.

 

I fully condemn racists like the Stormfront folks. But if someone has a point of view (especially one that's legal), they should not be shut down like this - we can't condemn their ideas as well if they are shut down. Plus, if we shut down free speech, then what eventually turns out to be (we don't always know them at the time - Dr. MLK, Jr. being one example) the GOOD ideas can't be exposed and eventually rise to the top as well.

The dark web is the dark web, and clearly forcing this unsavory group onto it is anathema to free speech values. It is crucial we recognize that free speech is now being almost entirely expressed in this new medium, our new public square.

There's a great post by xwsmithx - I quoted it above - which points out how airports and college campuses function to allow free speech, and I made the Google-China point.

The cake thing... It's easily solvable by bakeries just selling "neutral cakes," and allowing people to buy two grooms or brides, or one of each, or whatever to decorate/celebrate as they see fit, but the comparison is useful as a way of prying open that dissonance box and nudging people to align their views with deeper values.

I don't really have a dog in the cake fight as marriage seems insane to me, and I sympathize with both an artisan forced to go against their values AND any couple just looking to celebrate their crazy notion that marriage makes any sense for anyone.

 

I visited when someone posted a joke link that ended up there, and I was very surprised by the level of intelligence and articulate expression, though that was more chilling than if they'd been the idiots I expected...

But like Westboro and the horrifying Black Hebrew Israelite splinter groups (the majority of the non-splinters are decent folk), they have as much right to spew garbage as the next nutbag.

Stormfront even had a section specifically for disagreement, prohibited any advocacy of violence and even came to ban the N-word at least by the rules.

 

GoDaddy shut down stormfront but leaves up the BLM website. To GoDaddy's view, assassinating police is just fine, but don't say anything against the assassin if black as that is not allowed.

 

All forcing hosts to be required to allow content to be on their servers... They find violates TOS....Costs that have terms of Tervice Clearly listed, & must be agreed to prior to beginning the set-up on them... Is a narrowing of providers, & further censorship.

 

I bet if a group went to an airport or college campus and started preaching death of.groups of people, they'd get shut down.

 

Fascism in it's modern form will be the merger of large international companies and government. It's a subject worth debating but yes in this case no law was broken and I can't say based on what I know of Strom Front that I will miss it to say the lest.

I went a couple times to see what the hoopla was about. It was more anti-jew than racists in what I saw. Cannot say anything I saw indicated a high level of intelligence or articulate expression though by posters there.

 

The old "America - love it or leave it!" argument, regurgitated by those who would see their neighbor's speech stifled today, and their own tomorrow.

Give me the billions to build a new public square of equal scope and I'll do just this; otherwise, learn to share the space and tolerate views expressed in the commons which belong to all of us rightfully.
