Rather than read something someone said about Orwell why not read his writings? I've seen this sort of thing before, confidently posted, and the writer is never familiar with his work.

You've probably never been through a museum or art gallery if you think the value of a statue or painting is measured by weight or volume.

Those towing down statues, not belonging to them, on land they do not own, are going to be found guilty of a variety of crimes. Towed by a vehicle based on video evidence.

Ripping down the statue only proved they know how to be vandals.

 

I quoted Orwell directly not something someone said. It was from his Collected Letters. It is also a piece that is widely cited but I didn't source it from them. There is an endless supply of evidence that Orwell was a democratic socialist ("Why I Write?" for example which was written in 1946) but as some people claim Orwell changed before his death in 1950 I wanted to quote something written very late in his life. What he said was explicit and put the lie to modern claims that 1984 was intended to be a critique of anything other than totalitarianism, and that the kind of socialism represented by the Attlee Labour Government was not his target. Your post is therefore another piece of confection, misrespresenting what I did - very boring. By the way do you know anything about the Attlee Labour government. Reading Orwell without an understanding of the times he wrote in might be a little tricky. He tended to write about what he knew and his knowledge of the USA was limited.

I haven't read every essay but I've read all his books and a lot of the key essays. I cited something HE said to demonstrate that he was a socialist. It was written by him in 1949 the year before he died, just after the publication of 1984. Your allusion to Orwell being some sort of conservative ally is vague. If you REALLY want to have a debate on Orwell and I will join you - propose a subject and we'll start a thread. Based on our interactions until now I fear it would be just childish sniping like your post above but if you want to give it a go and draw a line under the culture war crap then I'm up for it. I love Orwell's writings and would relish the opportunity to discuss them in an intelligent way.

No, actually you can't confront stormfront members and their beliefs on their site. I have been kicked off a number of times over the years (even with different IP addresses and user names). they don't like "race traitors, jew lovers, muds and the such like".

 

Never been there but there has always been ways for like minded people to meet. Now it will likely be more difficult to track these people who may be dangerous. Censorship never works.
