Thanks drumph As everything will get pricier and our ag products will feel the sting of tariffs from our allies trump supporters will continue to cheer on the mentally unhinged loon WASHINGTON — With global markets shaken by President Donald Trump's surprise decision to impose strict tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, the president went into battle mode on Friday: "Trade wars are good, and easy to win," he wrote on Twitter. But the public show of confidence belies the fact that Trump's policy maneuver, which may ultimately harm U.S. companies and American consumers, was announced without any internal review by government lawyers or his own staff, according to a review of an internal White House document. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/wh...d-when-he-started-trade-war-officials-n852641
According to another internal White House document, Trump did pass this through the WH staff and lawyers and they agreed with it.
Trump is doing this to help the rust belt states that swung his way in order to seal the election deal. Without them, the democrats don't have a chance in 2020.
On Wednesday evening, the president became "unglued," in the words of one official familiar with the president's state of mind. A trifecta of events had set him off in a way that two officials said they had not seen before: Hope Hicks' testimony to lawmakers investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, conduct by his embattled attorney general and the treatment of his son-in-law by his chief of staff. Trump, the two officials said, was angry and gunning for a fight, and he chose a trade war, spurred on by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, the White House director for trade — and against longstanding advice from his economic chair Gary Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
Grab ankles trumplers Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs will mean fewer goods "Made in America" prices will be going up on consumer goods, the steel plants that were closed don't have working coke furnaces, you can't restart them Market Realist
Good grief, you don't know that for a fact. Some poster says it is lies. First, suppose the reaction by China is to further cut steel prices? To hold their share!!! Explain that.
China has a say in what happens. The Chinese can cut steel and aluminum prices to offset the tariffs and we end up benefiting. China wants our market.
You don't need to tell them to grab their ankles, Conservative love that position. It gives the GOP and the billionaires the best aiming point possible. .
he is conning them , no jobs rushing back like coal and to build a steel plant takes a min of two years, the plants that were shut the furnaces are trash after they cool down , just a lump of solid metal, now our ag products will get hurt as tariffs on them from our allies will do more damage to the midwest
What he didn’t consider is that the proposed measures will actually undermine American job growth. That’s because American companies that make things out of steel represent a much broader sector of the economy than than the raw metal industries Trump is trying to shore up. Because of the tariffs, manufacturers of steel goods will have to pay higher prices for their raw materials. American-made finished products could also become less competitive if the US trading partners impose their own tariffs in retaliation. Several countries, including China, Mexico, and EU members, have already signaled they would raise tariffs for US products in response. As a result, US manufacturers are likely to produce less—and hire less—in the US. A similar policy rolled out by the George W. Bush administration in 2002 resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of jobs in the Rust Belt.
look rube , i am in manufacturing and their isn't enough capacity in the US to supply all industries , so buying steel will get more expensive for everything produced
Trump knows he is going down. It fits his vindictive spirit that he wants to take the country down with him. The Trump White House is in total chaos. After firing off a tweet about an actor, Alec Baldwin, Trump went on his weekly vacation. He has spent one-third of his Presidency on vacation. It was a tumultuous week, far worse than other tumultuous weeks. Following the Rob Porter debacle, Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor with a huge portfolio which included the fiery Middle East, Jared Kushner, lost his top secret privileges and can no longer have access to sensitive intelligence, sources, and methods. Kushner's wife, Trump's daughter, Ivanka, also cannot get a top secret clearance. Trump at times has said they never should have come to the White House and should leave. At the same time, Trump has told the couple that they should keep serving in their roles, even as he has privately asked John Kelly for his help in moving them out. To say Trump is conflicted about Jared and Ivanka is an understatement. It has something to do with his inability to make a decision and stick with it. During this same week, a day after testifying to congressional investigators that she lied to protect the President, Hope Hicks, the largely incommunicado communications director, quit. Trump has now gone through five communication directors in 13 1/2 months. Also threatening to quit is his economic advisor, Gary Cohn and his NSA, H.R. McMasters. Trump cannot keep the help, it seems. The list of persons quitting his administration is endless. Trump renewed his year old feud with Mr. Magoo, meaning Jeff Sessions, the loyal Republican Senator he chose to head the DOJ. He swung from a liberal advocator of gun limitations to a strong supporter of the NRA, rejoining the Republican fold, in a matter of two days. But that was not enough, not for Trump. He said that the United States would announce next week that it is imposing long-term tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. The White House has not even completed a legal review of the measures. The stock market plummeted. Republicans in Congress voiced their strong opposition, and our trading partners fumed. Trump wanted to protect the 150,000 who worked in steel and aluminum plants at the cost 6.5 million workers in auto, beer, and soda plants along with other industries that use steel and aluminum. It was a campaign promise. All this comes as Mueller is closing in. Close associates to Trump have been working with Mueller for months. The special prosecutor has Trump's financial records, and he is looking into Trump's vast history of relationships with Russia before and during his run for the Presidency. There is also evidence of obstruction of justice. No doubt this is affecting Trump's performance. He is quite concerned about Mueller, and that is reflected in countless tweets concerning the Russian investigation. When are Republicans in Congress finally going to admit that they have had their fill of Trump? They don't have to wait for impeachment and a Senate trial to remove Trump. Clearly, Trump is unable to to perform his duties as President. That is the very definition of Section Four of the 25th Amendment. The only drawback is that the obsequious Pence then becomes President. Americans must take heart. Pence can't possibly be worse than Trump.
You misspelled Reuben. And yes, steel will get more expensive. That means steel manufacturers will be earning more money, plants will be expanding to increase supply, and if you have to pay a bit more for the materials you need, well... it's staying the good ol' US of A. I'm not seeing the problem here.
He made the decision on these tariffs against the advice of his chief economic adviser, and now the Dow Jones industrial sector has experienced a 3% down tick from the mere announcement of these tariffs just this week. Once these new taxes are actually applied, we're going to experience the real economic impact
The article makes it seem like this was a random decision. Trump campaigned on doing this. Rust belt dems put him over the top.
Which is exactly why he polled third among economists, and why his chief economic advisers is against there tariffs.
Trump is ALWAYS "angry and unglued". Par for the course (and an everyday occurrence) for that Mentally-Unstable IMBECILE.
Here's America's inflation rates for the last 4 years 2015 0.12% 2016 1.28% 2017* 2.65% 2018* 2.38% You can expect 2018 to climb after this anouncement
From the article......... "According to two officials, Trump's decision to launch a potential trade war was born out of anger at other simmering issues and the result of a broken internal process that has failed to deliver him consensus views that represent the best advice of his team. Trump, the two officials said, was angry and gunning for a fight, and he chose a trade war, spurred on by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, the White House director for trade — and against longstanding advice from his economic chair Gary Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin." ..................................... "There were no prepared, approved remarks for the president to give at the planned meeting, there was no diplomatic strategy for how to alert foreign trade partners, there was no legislative strategy in place for informing Congress and no agreed upon communications plan beyond an email cobbled together by Ross's team at the Commerce Department late Wednesday that had not been approved by the White House. No one at the State Department, the Treasury Department or the Defense Department had been told that a new policy was about to be announced or given an opportunity to weigh in in advance. The Thursday morning meeting did not originally appear on the president's public schedule. Shortly after it began, reporters were told that Ross had convened a "listening" session at the White House with 15 executives from the steel and aluminum industry. Then, an hour later, in an another unexpected move, reporters were invited to the Cabinet room. Without warning, Trump announced on the spot that he was imposing new strict tariffs on imports. By Thursday afternoon, the U.S. stock market had fallen and Trump, surrounded by his senior advisers in the Oval Office, was said to be furious." ............................................................. If you were writing a novel about an intemperate nitwit with no control of his emotions or understanding of the magnitude of his decisions in terms of their impact, and really couldn't care less, the events of last Thursday would fit perfectly in your book.
