Ricin detected in mail sent to Pentagon

Two pieces of mail delivered to the Pentagon mail facility on Monday have initially tested positive for ricin, according to a US defense official.
The mail facility is in a separate building on the grounds of the Pentagon and the piece of mail which tested positive never entered the Pentagon building. All mail delivered to the Pentagon Monday was put into quarantine, according to the official.
The FBI and the Pentagon Force Protection Agency are responding and further testing is expected to be done by the FBI, the officials said.
Ricin is a highly toxic compound that is extracted from castor beans and has been used in terror plots. It can be used in powder, pellet, mist or acid form.
If ingested, it causes nausea, vomiting and internal bleeding of the stomach and intestines, followed by failure of the liver, spleen and kidneys, and death by collapse of the circulatory system.

The guilty terrorists need to be found. I would like to blame Russia since they have the bad attitude but Ricin is not usually their choice of poisons.

Thank you for posting this. Ricin is fairly easy to produce so the level of sophistication is not that high. The targets are odd and I am not sure what they suggest.

 

Not sure , What is scary is that a paper envelope is permeable therefore the mail man, the handlers all along the way must be getting contaminated. It must be a low tech weapon of mass destruction.

I recall that a Japanese Marxist cult spread ricin in Tokyo but maybe it was something else. Still whoever did it needs to be found and executed- after reasonable review that is.

Woman gets time served in ricin poisoning case

BURLINGTON — A 71-year-old woman who authorities say made the deadly poison ricin and tested it on her fellow residents at a Shelburne retirement community last November has been sentenced to time served.

No resident of the Wake Robin facility suffered permanent injuries as a result of the actions of Betty Miller, who later told authorities she wanted to see if poison she made actually worked before she took it in a bid to harm herself.

Miller is expected to be released from a Vermont jail on Monday, and will be heading to Bangor, Maine, where she has family. Her attorney, Paul Volk, said in court Thursday that she will receive psychiatric care at a facility there.

It appears that ricin is fairly easy to make at home using lye and castor beans. Many of the ricin incidents in the US have been attributed to home-grown terrorists, not Russians. This mail was addressed to Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and Chief of Naval Operations John M. Richardson.

Just as a side note here.

The left claim no WMD's were found in Iraq yet there were thousands of missiles and artillery shells loaded with Sarin gas.

Although they were not capable of firing anymore the toxin was still very much available to be taken.

And as we saw in Japan, that gas can commit mass murder.

I didn't google hot to make ricin, I just googled 'ricin' and it was all there on the full page including how to make it, I never specifically googled how to make it. That's alright, I don't have anything to hide from the FBI, matter of fact I've been an outspoken supporter of the FBI on just about every social media network out there. The chances are better that any such attack would be from some home-grown terrorist, some good old boys from Georgia maybe.

 

Yes, it can be formed into a powder so its easier to transmit.

However, its not really that deadly of a toxin in most cases.
