Yep, Orwell attacked authoritarianism. He also saw nationalism as part of that curse. As I said, very well done in bringing him up. You've really helped.

Seems you need the dictionary definition of fact.

No it hasn't. It's propaganda dressed up as scholarly research to fool people like you. Really watch the video in post 226

Why wouldn't you? Are you afraid it might just confirm what I have been saying?

You're like a jahova's witness when people start saying negative things about the watch tower.

Want me to find other quotes? Not hard.. long list of sholars and bright minds who would describe socialism as institutionalized crime and immoral.

Keep on looking for quotes from people to back up your views, your dragging your credibility through the mud.

Nationalism is all about pride in the nation and its accomplishments. "Nationalism teaches you to take pride in **** you haven't done" is the exact opposite of nationalism.

If you think that poster sums up nationalism, you don't have a clue.

I'm not interested in the post-truth perspective. I do think Stevew's use of George Orwell needs further consideration. Interestingly, further nationalist traits are summarised by Orwell: Obsession; Instability; Indifference to Reality. Can't fault him there either!

Indeed. Folks trying to suggest that patriotism and nationalism aren't synonyms despite the dictionary indicating such then referencing the dictionary because they don't know what facts they are arguing against.

I didn't think it was a wise choice, but I'm happy for us to discuss Churchill. What did you make of his quote "the Aryan stock is bound to triumph"?

Orwell wrote his book in the post WW2 era and nationalism was defined by pointing fingers at Hitler. Britain became a socialist government, but this is today and nationalism is being USED to smear an outsider president in an attempt to illegally remove him from office.

The relevant aspects today are the authoritarian dem party, the lying liberal media, and corrupt bureaucrats trying to tell you how to vote and THINK.

The dem party will have us ALL goose-stepping up and down the street in no time, if they succeed.

I think it's being used to smear patriotism and national identity.

Orwell actually referred to all forms of nationalism, including the celtic variety.

Could you give me an example of this nationalist smear? Cheers!

Psychology testing rejects that Demcrats suffer from the authoritarian personality. However, to be honest, I'm not really interested in party political game playing.

I wonder which politicians are supported by the far right...

Liberals throughout history have been patriotic nationalists. The left is the opposite and have sullied the term liberal by taking it over.

The left as we know it now has always been this way. It just used to be in the Fringes when Republicans were more conservative.

I cannot recall during my lifetime, where nationalism wasn't the core cause of war.

You obviously still can't read and entire post as a complete thought. I suspect you are just trying to save face now when everything I wrote is TRUE!

I asked you questions. Didn't you notice? Perhaps you're too busy reading Orwell to answer them?

I don't answer questions that obviously came from Cliff Notes! READ THE DAMN BOOK, and comprehend it in today's relevance.

Lol that's retarded. Wars are not fought over nationalism. They are fought over power territory and resources.

Just imagine a guy in a country saying "I really like my country it's the best place to live... Let's go kill everybody that doesn't live here!"

Its a shame that you can't support your argument. No problem though. There's a rich libertarian socialist literature to peruse. Takes time!

This is the same crap you've pulled before.

You are just saving face now, after I made solid arguments you don't like.

You seem to have confused me with someone else. You've added a lot to the discussion. I've thanked you several times now.

It is a stupid poster for stupid people.
Only the self loathing, low information crowd would think this is meaningful

Some people don't realize that just because they defend indefensible positions doesn't make those positions defensible. The only question I ask is are they doing it to deny the reality that their beliefs are faulty or do they do it for existential reasons like saving face.
