This is just bizarre. I mean, it isn't even a bridge that the ship could possibly pass under. I'm inclined to agree with the article that the captain was probably drunk.

I'M GONNA MOVE YOU, BAA-BYYY!!!! ....and he chugged right into the sucker LOL

Edit: video is at link. :alcoholic:

Russian cargo ship CRASHES into road bridge in South Korea (VIDEO)

    Gwangan Bridge, South Korea

A Russian cargo ship slowly but steadily crashed into a busy road bridge off the coast of Busan in South Korea. Local media reports that the vessel may have had a drunk captain at the helm.
Video footage of the crash shows the surreal moment the massive ship inches its way towards the bridge filled with motorists, who were completely unaware of the collision about to occur.

When the ship finally makes contact, parts of it are crushed under the bridge, which eventually stops the ship from continuing on its dangerous path.

There were no injuries reported in the collision, but both the 5,998-ton Seagrand ship and the lower level of the Gwangan Bridge were damaged by the impact.

The bridge was left with a 1.5 x 2 meter hole, and other steel structures were scratched, News Joins reports. Portions of the lower bridge were closed as a precaution.

.08 is not really drunk, hell I reach that after 2 glasses of wine.

However they did hit a cruise ship before hitting the bridge then after hitting the bridge they simply turned around and went the other way so there was definitely something going on there.

Also, a ship that size has more than just the captain on board so obviously someone would have had to notice that bridge coming up.

It will be interesting to find out what the problem here was.

Speaks highly of South Korean construction and lowly of Russian seamanship.

Well it wasn't going very fast and it hit an immovable object, I wouldn't expect much of an impact.

I'm not sure it could take out the bridge going full speed because it's a boat on water.

It would lose it's momentum very quickly.

The Titanic got ripped up by ice, not hardened concrete.

The South Koreans should be more careful not to crash bridges into innocent cargo ships full of vodka (except for a couple empties.) ;)

Something I learned recently. A man noticed on an image of the Titanic that a part of the ship was discolored. After investigating further, he found out there was a fire going on in the boiler room which weakened part of the hull. This is why it sank when it hit the iceberg.

I don't know very much about sea-going vessels but it looks like it is trying to reverse before the impact - as though they realized what was about to happen and tried to correct it before it was too late.

Looked like the ship was still steaming forward until about the 10-15 sec mark when it appeared it was going full reverse.

"Hey, come and look at how close these ships come to the bridge....

Like that one where you watch this big jet land so gracefully and you think there must be a runway just beyond those trees and then you see the smoke and flames.

...... and just like everything else I'll bet the Americans are blaming it on the Russians.

Maybe controls were hacked by the Chinese
as they did those series of U.S.N. Destroyers
hitting cargo ships (2) or running aground.
At least now we know it was the Chinese
    and not the Russians.

Remember, they can hack your Prius too.

Imagine Air Force planes hacked in the air.
Esp.: the newest, fanciest, most expensive ones.
Hack an incoming missiles electronics. Probably less energy than disabling.
