    On a night that featured the Democratic debate, President Donald Trump said he's being cast in a harsh light.

    Trump's complaint wasn't about the candidates vying for the nomination and the chance to make the 45th president a one-termer, but was rather was directed at light bulbs.

    "People said what's with the light bulb? I said here’s the story, and I looked at it: The bulb that we're being forced to use — No. 1, to me, most importantly, the light's no good. I always look orange," Trump said during a speech at a House Republican retreat dinner.

    Trump is actually correct.

    Those "energy-efficient light bulbs" often tend to shift the color appearance of skin tones from a lively pink to a more greyish dull lifeless orange.

    Part of what makes those lights more efficient is they have a different spectral composition, and don't "waste" their energy producing as much red wavelength light, which the human eye has a lower sensitivity to. Unfortunately, this red light is critical for truly correct color display.

    The artificial lighting could exacerbate his inherent orangeness.

    I'm not an expert on tanning options but there are 3 main ways I think, natty sunlight, tanning bed, and spray tan...theres also a hybrid of the last two. Based upon our Potus's natural skintone which has relatively low melanin? Hes just spray tanning. We all have our quirks, his is a fake tan. Could be worse

    I have never, ever, seen someone who appeared orange because of an energy efficient lightbulb. We use them in my house. We use them at my work. This is nonsense.

    Well, as I understand it, there are 3 types of bulbs to choose from

    - Energy Efficient (we use 95%)
    - Non Energy Efficient (Technology from the 50's)
    - Dim Bulbs (The American President)

    We will continue to use Energy Efficient Bulbs in our house...

    Incorrect...the temperature (Color) of an LED varies dramatically depending on desired lumens and use. Trump is just doing what he usually does and making stuff up as a defense against critique.
