The GOP propaganda machine and its ability to create an imaginary planet say we are in trouble too. Thank God for the Constitution and law enforcement and journalism. But the GOP base believes Democrats are criminals, the rich pay too much in taxes, global warming is a hoax, and many other conspiracy theories. Pretty damn scary.
Maybe it would have been better to post this in another forum. Clearly, some see the comments as a reference to politics today. From more of a psychological or sociological perspective, I think it's an excellent question. Understanding how people become attracted to ideas has always fascinated me. Long ago, I read Goebbles' diary and was not terribly impressed with it because he didn't come up with anything new, he just used what was pretty common at the time. About 15 years ago, I talked at length with an ex Hitler Youth. What he said about the use of propaganda and basic psychological principles used to indoctrinate young people was quite interesting. They were taught that Hitler was like a demi-god and felt a religious sense about the man to the point that they were willing to die for him. This schooling of the Hitler Youth seemed in certain ways to echo the Samurai belief system of the Japanese. The school was a 24-7 kind of education. He was one of those Hitler called up and the end of the war to replace the dead, wounded, and captured German soldiers.
Yes, my original answer (attempt at humor and apparently over the heads of the hoi polloi), invoked Godwin's Law because it was explicitly a question about Hitler and the German people. My subsequent response to the OP anwered the question directly. The rest of the discussion about Godwin's Law is off topic nitpicking and dreck. And why do you care what I'm doing with my horns?
Be that as it may, Godwin's law didn't have a damn thing to do with it, obviously. Really? You want to lump Christ in with mass murderers? Really?? Do feel free to prove desperation is the only possible motivation for a reference to Hitler.
That you immediately associate this with what is currently going on in the US then not only did @gabmux make a very valid argument, he won it.
I try to apply historical situations to something more relatable today. For example. "Nazis took advantage of German’s fears of a far left or communist government take-over, as well as exploiting long existing and underlying prejudices by scapegoating a minority, the Jews, as being responsible for all their woes." Here I might replace the word 'Nazis' with the word 'Republicans' then I might replace the word 'German' with 'American', then the word 'communist' with 'socialist' then you could replace the word 'Jews' with any minority that the republicans might be scapegoating these days. Now if you keep going forward with this analogy and just fill in those more dated references, to something in the headlines today, it might help process the more complicated passages and connect the facts into a narrative that is less confusing. Now I don't mean to suggest that the analogy you use has to be perfect or even good, but it does help your brain digest the patterns and relationships in the narrative.
I knew it wouldn’t take long for someone to comment on that instead of the relevance of FOLLOWING, but that’s freedom of speech for you.
The action of was already completed before you asked the question. So the answer was evident before you asked the question.
Thanks for reply. I'm finding more infor from other sources that seems to fit right in with the example you gave.... From what I’ve found, there was actually three active political parties in that era of German Democracy….the Nazis, the Communist party and the Social Democratic Party “He managed to disable the Communist party with propaganda and by openly raiding the Communist Party offices which then gave him enough votes to defeat the Social Democrats. When the Nazis openly raided Communist Party offices and suppressed their publications, a lot of people didn’t see it as a loss of rights. They saw it as a political party finally taking charge and doing something to make Germany a better place to live. The Germans held another election on March 5, 1933. This time, though, the Communist Party wasn’t allowed to participate. With one opposition party out of the way, the Nazis got a majority government.” Almost appears as if a script is being followed
So that's a yes. Are you also of the opinion that there is no difference in motivation between those who follow mass murderers and those who follow Christ?
Garbage propaganda again. When someone gets to a courtroom tell us, otherwise garbage conspiracy theories and total BS. Meanwhile over 200 in the Reagan Administration went to prison and most of Trumps campaign staff ditto. The only reason the orange conspiratorial number one is not in prison is because limp-wristed GOP prosecutors say a president cannot be indicted. Mueller is a limp-wristed GOP tool. Like almost everyone in Congress and Republican. A total swamp and catastrophe only propaganda makes possible
That is communism. Socialism today is Bernie Sanders and every rich country but us t h o u g h we are close. We are all socialists now! Said by the president of Finland when ObamaCare passed. Of course he did not realize the total obstruction and idiocy and greed of the GOP and it's lobbyists. So we're talking about original EU Scandinavia Canada Australia New Zealand Japan. So why are we the only rich country without Healthcare living wage cheap college and training great infrastructure and vacations and mainly taxing the rich their fair share? Because of the GOP brainwash. End of story
