Like you I see pros and cons for both sides on both options.

FAILURE to remove the IMPOTUS give carte blanche to utterly LAWLESS elections in November. The GOP have been doing their UTMOST to castrate the Federal Election Commission and this will probably be the final nail in the coffin. We already have the most expensive and most corrupt Congress that the Wall Street Casino Banksters can BUY and without any further restraints we will descend into the 3rd world league of nations that are completely untrustworthy. Those elected to Congress will be facsimiles of the IMPOTUS and they will gladly accept bribes from every special interest that offers them.

That is not even the worst case outcome either!

REMOVING the IMPOTUS means that Pence will pardon him and there will be a major attempt by EVERYONE on the extreme right to SWEEP this all UNDER the carpet as quickly as possible. Pence will appoint a VP who is acceptable to the extremist rightwing white nationalist fringe so as to keep them from going rogue. The same aberrant policies will continue only now they will be tinged with evangelical righteous zealotry in order to hide the crimes against humanity being perpetrated by the regime.

From the Dem's perspective NEITHER is a positive outcome but the latter is preferable albeit less likely to occur.

There are TWO positives for the Dems that are occurring regardless of the outcome of the Senate trial of the IMPOTUS.

#1 is the motivation of the Progressives won't be altered by either outcome. They now have an agenda and an organization and they are intent upon achieving their goal. It won't be easy because I suspect that 2020 is going to be the DIRTIEST election in the history of our nation.

#2 is the Demographic change that is altering the electorate. It is TRENDING in favor of the Dems which is why there will be massive Minority Voter Suppression on an unprecedented scale in 2020. This is going to be the single most important key as to whether the Dems win or lose in 2020 IMO.

Actually I think that would push them further left. They are already in a state of hysteria right now because of Trump. How would another 4 years effect them? I don't think it would cause them to return to sweet reason.

The very best outcome would be for Dems to educate themselves on how this nation is supposed to work, and then work within those guidelines, rules, laws, etc.

Politically, the most beneficial outcome for Democrats in November would be for them to win the Presidency, House and Senate.

That's not going to happen. :)

The odds right now look like Trump will win a 2nd term, Democrats will keep the House, and Republicans will keep the Senate.

If that happens, you can console yourself with the House continuing to scream things like "Mock Trial!", "Russia Collusion!", "National Tragedy!" and "Orange Man Bad!". For. four. more. long. years. And since the Dems are slow learners, they'll probably impeach Trump again. Maybe they will even take enough time to actually find a crime, not that it seems to matter to them either way.

Meanwhile, Trump will continue working on border security, lowering health care costs, negotiating more fair trade agreements, strengthening the economy, and helping raise living standards for the poor and middle-class.

Politically, what would be the most beneficial outcome for Democrats for November? It would be an understatement to say that the Democrats are going to lose big in November. If they hold the house it will be a miracle and they have absolutely no chance of winning the White House. The future for the Democrat party is quite dim but they have only themselves to blame. When they hitched their wagon to the progressive agenda it got a lot of attention from the media but didn't play well in the real world of America. The giddy Dems missed that somehow. For the majority of Americans the left has always been an annoyance but mostly ignored until Washington really became crazy town. The Dems began to support the most inane causes and America just scratched it's head until Obama rammed through the ACA and trashed the best healthcare in the world. The Dems missed that this wasn't a victory and that it angered the electorate but still they piled on. They completely forgot that they were in office at our pleasure and when Obama attacked the Constitution and Americans that was the wake up call. We're still only an election away from this insanity and an absolute civil war. For America's sake the Democrat party needs to come back into the fold and dump the wacked progressive agenda. If we cannot get the bipartisan government we are entitled to the Democrat party will become irrelevant. Imagine a tight Republican majority in all three branches of government permanently, I don't think anyone thinks this is a good idea but if there isn't some significant change and honest cooperation between parties we may see our beloved Republic turned into something we cannot control. Currently we enjoy a robust economy, America has reasserted itself on the world stage and there have been manifold other improvements, Democrats and true liberals would be wise to admit this and not see it as something to fight about but to celebrate and to look for ways to build on it. We need to get back to the business of being America not some shoddy self destructive Marxist pipe dream.

I think that regardless of the Senate trial, the Democratic candidate wins in 2020. Colorado and Arizona are going to replace their Republican Senator with a Democratic one. The Republicans are already working on purging voter rolls and strategizing how they can make voting the most difficult in majority Democratic areas while easing the voting process in majority Republican areas. But the momentum, the energy, is on the side of Democrats. The anti-Trump sentiment was instrumental in bringing the Democratic majority to the House, and the anti-Trump sentiment has grown in size and magnitude ever since. Wisconsin, Michigan, and possibly Arizona are going to vote for the other guy in 2020.

It is the will of the people, through their representatives in the House, who impeached Trump.

I don’t think that the Republicans will vote to remove because that is the worse case scenario for them. With Trump out, the Party would fall into disarray. Pence is too weak of a leader to pull them through. And too poor a character to ever get elected. I feel similarly about Nikki Haley. Being as they are the minority party, the only chance the Republicans stand of regaining power, is on the coat tails of a popular president. Unfortunately, at the present, that is Trump. He burned all of his contenders on the way to the top.

I think the the more likely scenario is that the Senate will sensor Trump in some way, or whatever it is they do. Senators tend to be more honorable than most politicians. Even though Mitch McConnell has proven that ideal wrong, as has Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz, as they roll over for a tummy rub, I’m sure that there are Republican Senators, if allowed to see the documents in question, and to hear from witnesses like John Bolton, would find it excessively difficult to vote to acquit.

However, I highly suspect that Trump’s best defense is going to try to turn the trial into a #%$& show. He, and his supporters are going to try to make it about the Bidens, and try to spout their latest conspiracy theories. But if Parnas is to be believed, Trump has been working the Ukraine ever since he came into office. And is really an extension of the collusion with the Russians that Trump insists never happened.

Still, I have to wonder why it is that so many Republican voters have become so Russian friendly, in almost direct correlation with the rise of Trump. Parnas and his friend Igor were arrested for funneling Russian money into Trump’s, and other Republicans’ campaigns.

Since 2017 the Progressives have REGAINED 650 seats nationwide lost to the GOP in 2010!

The Progressives did the math and came to the conclusion that EMPOWERING minorities that had been SUPPRESSED by the GOP was the KEY to victory and the RESULTS of WINNING those 650 seats prove that they are right.

The Demographic TREND is on the side of the Progressives and no one can explain WHERE or HOW the GOP or the IMPOTUS are going to make up those MILLIONS of LOST votes in 2020.

The Progressive Agenda is the FUTURE of the Dems AND our nation!

Whether it happens in 2020, 2022 or 2024 it is GOING TO HAPPEN!

    You cannot stop PROGRESSives!

The polls have Trump’s approval at 42%. But polls also show that 52% of the people want him removed from office. Trump has been impeached because 10% more people voted for Democratic candidates than for Republican candidates, in the last election. Trump’s impeachment is the will of the people. What bubble one must live in to think that Trump is popular with the majority of the people. He is kind of a disgusting laughing stock, to the world.

The will of the people is irrelevant without a high crime or misdemeanor.

Frankly, I'm half expecting they will try another impeachment this year. After this one flops they need to provide some meat to the base to keep them occupied until election day and another impeachment could do the trick.

They can impeach Trump once a month for all I care. They are wearing peoples' nerves thin with the endless accusations, crying "wolf" every day for 3 years.

Most mainstream voters in November will vote on platform differences between Trump and the Democrat's nominee....policy issues that impact peoples' daily lives. None of this partisan squabbling between the House Democrats and the Executive Office impacts anything "real". It's just an annoying side show.

Are you sure the anti-Trump sentiment has grown in size and magnitude? The impeachment poll opinions haven't budged more than 1% either way and Trump's job approval numbers have also been relatively steady over time.

If you were a mildly angry Democrat after losing the 2016 election and your party's daily accusations against Trump have made you an extremely inflamed Democrat today, you still only have one vote in November. The voting booth doesn't care about a voter's level of angst.

I think the same people who were angry in 2016 are just angrier and louder today....not that there are "more" angry voters.

While Trump/Clinton weren't my pick in 2016, the economy that has blossomed under Trump will offset a number of angry Democrat voters. The Impeachment Circus has actually angered a number of middle-road independents, AND Democrats.

I have to agree, I really don't think this Impeachment trial is going to influence voters quite the way the Democrats were hoping.

Trump was impeached for solicitation. The majority of the people think that it is wrong for our president to ask foreign countries to assist him in his election and re-election campaigns.

Why do you think it is, that every time a Republican gets elected president, many of his underlings go to jail, but almost none when a Democrat is president.

While Trump’s approval rating has remained constant at 42%, those favoring impeachment and removal has risen from 39% to 52% over the past few months.

Actually it was a system that is overtaken by political party and not what is best for the country that they feared most.

His strongest demographic is the elderly and they are dying off faster than any other demographic. The younger generations don’t like him so much.

Politically, what would be the most beneficial outcome for Democrats for November?

Start a big war, have Trump and Pence killed, declare emergency and martial law with Pelosi on the throne.

I don't know what data supports that, but that's entirely possible.

Short-run trends will change for better or worse once Democrats select their nominee and Trump and the Democrat start going head-to-head on issues.

Until, we get past the primaries, I don't see short-term "support trends" as being terribly relevant, with the exception of the impeachment process not really moving people and Trump's longer-term 3-year approval/disapproval being stable.

The economic trends look very positive for the country. :)
