These attempts to portray Biden as demented are laughable. I think these people didn't get the memo that this was a campaign talking point, which has failed miserably (at the time, Jared Kushner was warning his father-in-law that this approach wouldn't work because it was easily debunked by Biden showing up in debates and town halls and being proficient), and the campaign is now over (not before fleecing the gullible out of a lot of money). They will continue to say that he is demented because there is latency between those earlier marching orders and the new marching orders they will receive from their handlers and their news channels. With Biden almost daily delivering rather coherent messages and not displaying any signs of dementia, these people don't realize how pathetic their claims sound.

 

Just this morning, a friend told me about something circulating on FaceBook about Biden having two brain aneurysms that left him cognitively compromised. That may or may not be true but he doesn't appear to have had any long-term negative effects.

I agree with you that it's preposterous considering how coherent, proactive and professional he has been since taking office. It's been a breath of fresh air for me. I'm not so hesitant to read the morning news.

 

As far as I know it seems to be true that Biden has brain aneurysms... but false that they left him cognitively compromised. Aneurysms will only do that if they rupture. If they don't, most aneurysms are silent and asymptomatic and will stay put until people die of old age from a different cause. Also, it depends on size. Small aneurysms are extremely unlikely to rupture. I don't know the size of Biden's aneurysms, if they do exist.

 

Biden appears to have an intelligent and supportive wife as well, which will be a tremendous buffer to offset age-related cognitive decline. I suspect he'll outlast his junior, Trump, especially if/when Melania dumps him.

 

Yes, Biden does have age-congruent cognitive decline, and such seniors often benefit from a loving and caring helper, and Dr. Jill Biden certainly does love him a lot. Their marriage is clearly based on love and mutual admiration, as opposed to Trump's with his trophy wife. Clearly Trump couldn't care less for his wife (he much prefers his daughter) and she can't stand him.

Four years from now I anticipate that Biden will be slightly more forgetful and will need a bit more help from his wife and entourage; but like most seniors with age-congruent decline but no clinical dementia, he will still be able to function quite proficiently. A person who needs to ask "Honey, where did I leave my reading glasses?" is not the same as a clinically demented person. I've had patients who are 95 and function quite well, but need some help to remember certain things, have some name-finding difficulties, but nothing major.

From what I've observed of Biden's cognitive status in multiple debates, town halls, speeches, and interviews, including the spontaneous, non-teleprompted ones, I do not expect Biden to ever run into clinical dementia to a degree that would warrant the 25th. Predictions to the contrary are the desperate and pathetic claims by those who got defeated by Biden in the election. The funny part I always tell them is, "if Biden is so demented and still spanked your boy silly, what does it say about your boy?"

In the first interview after the election that featured both Biden and Harris, there was a clear example of what I am talking about. Biden was sharp and answered all questions clearly, fast, and substantially, with good articulation, good reasoning, and excellent train of thoughts. At one point, he was talking about some other official and he said "we'll meet with him to discuss it" then he paused, turned to Harris, and said, "Kamala, when is it that we're scheduled to meet with him, already?" She answered "Tuesday." He said, "Right, we'll see him Tuesday and will address... " etc., and continued to proficiently discuss the issue.

A few years back Biden would not have needed to ask Harris for the date of the meeting. But having forgotten this minor piece of information due to his mild and minor age-related cognitive decline, didn't prevent him from proficiently addressing the very complex topic at hand.

Biden's minor cognitive decline is nothing to write home about. It is absolutely what we see in other healthy seniors his age, and won't impair him at all in the exercise of the presidential duties; not now, and not in four years.

 

Lincoln? He did a great deal of good. Arguably saved the country.
