It is a fact the FBI has been a political tool. I like the idea of decentralizing it.

the fbi does need reorganization, depoliticization (of course, trump politicized everything) but without a national police force of dome kind who keeps the dna and fingerprint data base ? who enforces federal law? who tracks interstate serial killers and such? local and state police will never have the resources for that.

Funny how you tie that to Trump when it was politicized before he became President.

    Thank you, my thoughts exactly!

Anybody familiar with US history and the FBI knows that the Agency has been utterly political since its beginning with J. Edgar Hoover.

The FBI has had Hunter’s laptop... for better than a year.... any guesses where that is going to lead... or not lead to?...

As long as the head of the FBI is selected from the ruling class of spineless elites it will be politicized and corrupt. The tall guy was the worst. He let Hillary off the hook. Put someone like Bill O'Reilly or Nick Saban in charge and tell them to clean house from top to bottom. After they cleaned up the department relieve them and put an FBI agent in charge.

So here we have people that are for defunding the FBI.

Perhaps if you look at your disappointments with the FBI you can understand why some people feel the same about their local police.

The FBI is clearly political and not following the law. From Comey, to Strzok, to McCabe, to the lawyer that changed the documents... they need a full on house cleaning.

Com'n man -- if you have cancer they don't stop feeding you they cut the cancer out. We need the FBI and the local police. A good man can turn any dept around. I could certainly do it and make a lot of enemies in the process. I turned around several depts at the company I worked for. Got my car window and my house window shot out -- LOL

I think we'd risk throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Perhaps the "Hover" culture can't be eradicated. But, all the forensic work, it's central criminal data bases, finger prints; generally its a clearinghouse of criminal data. Even if that's all the FBI becomes, we shouldn't lose that and the experienced people that do that work.

Maybe our US Marshals could be given the job of national investigations?

Keep their crime lab and roll the rest of their functions into the US Marshals Service.

The FBI are a bunch of dirt bags. They need to be disbanded.

The rot's too deep. Look at what dirtbags they are an no leaks, no whistleblowers, no resignations. But when they want to use leaks to attack their targets? Then we have felony leaks without end. But leaks to protect the integrity of the Bureau? None. They have no integrity

It's deeper than that. Google "Whitey Bulger" and "Dirty Bob Mueller".

And after you wonder why the FBI would let four innocent men go to prison for twenty five years to protect a mob hitman and then hide him from the authorities for decades, note that the Whitey Bulger's nephew is part of the "investment" group that includes John Kerry's sons, Hunter Biden and Whitey Bulger's nephew.

The FBI has never been what we wanted them so badly to be. It's no longer deniable, they are organized crime, they are unmanageable and it's time they were disbanded.

    Abolish the FBI:

    “Scandal-ridden FBI must be abolished.”

"Rotten to the core the Famous But Incompetent G-men have become, and actually have been for more than half a century now?

"Even by dismal modern FBI standards, though, the news just keeps getting worse and worse."
They view themselves as unaccountable. The politically connected and their henchmen, get off light, when they suffer any consequences at all.

And while they are engaged in all this criminal activity, no leaks, no whistleblowers and no resignations in the service of protecting the integrity of the organization, because it has no integrity and everyone in the the organization knows it.

Apparently you never heard of J. Edgar Hoover. Presidents were wary of that man.

Hoover knew how to play the game and consolidate power. He tapped everyone's phone, just ask LBJ and MLK.

The title discussed abolish the FBI it paralled the discussion that some people were having about local police. I do not disagree with you and am always for solving problems whether it be FBI or police. I was pointing out that the feelings some have about the FBI are similar to the feelings others have toward local police. Perhaps that could be a step towards solving proble

While the idea of "house cleaning" is clearly something needed, the problem is who and how? There is like a core issue here- IF everyone in your game is cheating, who can survive playing honestly? Many, perhaps most politicians might want to, but when the unwritten rules don't allow that and trying it gets you buried- so what do you do? Until dishonorable conduct is simply not tolerated, it will continue.

This is a problem in general with our politics. If you elect an honest, corruption free person, you throw him into a swamp where his principles not only won't work- they are not tolerated.
I think individuals want things to work justly.... but the question is who will make that the priority? The only way to do the job?

Honor in politics has become mostly a cosmetic thing, like lipstick on a pig. When that changes- our politics will change and perhaps begin to serve the people again.
HOW do we make that happen? I'm saying we- because I mean you and I, we the people. We already know that government has a terrible track records of policing itself, and in recent years that has continued to get worse. These people DO work for us, and somewhere, somehow- there is a way to restore that in principle. We need to find that way.

Maybe- probably; in focusing on the various smaller issues we are dealing with symptoms, not cause. That's the key to real change- cure the disease rather than just sticking band-aids on the symptoms it produces. I think that might be easier than we imagine, if we learn to approach it right.

US Marshal's service. How many federal law enforcement agencies do we really need?
