Elon Musk seems to be quite talented at rooting out corruption, running companies and making a lot of money for him and his companies. Fra from an establishment guy, but would he make a great President? Considering the current crop of Democrats out there and assuming he ran as a Democrat, he might get my vote, even though DeSantis I think would be the logical choice. Still, I think he would be pretty good and be unafraid at gutting out The Deep State actors and restoring confidence to this country. One sticking point: He was born in South Africa.
NO. Like trump, Musk comes from a mental state where he thinks like an autocrat - where Congress is more of roadblock, rather than a working partner, and laws are made to be ignored and applied to the "common folk". The best Presidents we have had have mostly come from the ranks of State Governors (Reagan, Clinton) because they understand the art of compromise and working with Congress to get things done. People like Trump and Musk are more interested in personal aggrandizement rather than governing.
Yes because he would publish all the behind the scenes crap, expose the tyrants, and fire 80% of the govt.
Maybe for South Africa, but in US you need to be natural born. Also, he seems to be fully invested in appeasing the fringe conspiracy nuts, so that's pretty much opposite of what a good president would be.
Eisenhauer, Washington and Grant came from the military. They made good Presidents. Don't know if Musk would make a good President but I would trust him way ahead of someone who had acquired their wealth through government! Pelosi, Biden, Clinton etc.
Most of Pelosi's wealth came from her real estate investing husband. Most of Biden wealth cam through sales of homes he purchased low and sold high. And his wife's salary as President of a College, and book sales. The Clinton's were pretty sleazy, I'll give you that.
While Musk is no more able to be President, than is Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was only a matter of time, before someone on the Right, started this thread. There's just something about that autocratic type-- provided they support the "right" things-- to which Republicans, especially, seem to gravitate. Funny, how the same who would defy the law, under one President, can be like puppy dogs, in search of a master, when they catch a whiff of that dictatorial, Right wing musk.
The modern day CHAMPION OF FREE SPEECH would make a GREAT PRESIDENT. But he wasn't born here so he doesn't qualify.
Stay tuned for the laptop when you'll learn that the "BIG GUY" received millions fro Ukraine, China and so many more.
It’s too soon to say for me. Tim Scott from South Carolina would be an interesting candidate, but I would need to know more about his positions and temperament. Ditto to South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem. I know enough about Ron DeSantis to support him. Musk was a darling of the progressives until he bought Twitter. A true liberal would be supportive of what he’s doing because they support free exchanges of ideas and would applauded by alliances between government and private business for partisan political purposes. The authoritarian left is upset because their solution to settling with the political opposition is to silence them.
Anyone that can successfully lead a major corporation has the skill set to lead a country. Personally I've always preferred a businessman over a career politician as POTUS.
This is a hypothetical poll requiring the suspension of Constitutional considerations. It's really not that difficult.
Ok, then we can put Trump back in office, he'll terminate the Constitution (as he promised) and then anyone can be president
Well, you could start your own thread on that topic, if you're up for it. This one is about Elon Musk.
My post was about him too. He can be president as soon as Trump terminates the Constitution. Other that that, I stand by what I said, - he is African and cannot be president in US as long as Constitution is in effect.
The big problem with CEOs as President is that they used to telling people what to do and having them do it. If they don't do it, they are fired or demoted. A President can't operate that way. He has to work with the members of his party and log roll with the opposition. COE's need to learn to treat opposition members of Congress the same way they might negotiate with their business rivals. Trump proved he could not do that. Part of the trouble was with scum bags, like Adam Schiff, who told lies and got away with it. The witch hunt got to Trump. They got under his already thin skin. Trump also needed to some designated hatchet men. Successful Presidents let others do the dirty work. They look presidential and stay above the fray.
The problem there would also be the DOJ and The FBI who stood by and "cheered on" the destruction of Trump and his Administration. The FBI knew Schiff was lying and they knew already that the Russian Collusion was nothing but a hoax. They did nothing to clarify and even aided The Democrats persecuting him in their quest. Trump's DOJ was his biggest problem. Even when Bill Barr was there. I think Elon Musk was would be smarter about his choices and would be smarter about how he handled obstacles as they were thrown at him. But who knew back in 2016, just how corrupt the system really was. Trump, if nothing else, exposed all of it.
I'm not seeing the problem with that. I see no reason why people in government positions shouldn't be held to the same standard as in the private sphere. I don't think CEOs have a knee jerk reaction to a job not being done. But they have to draw the line somewhere to maintain efficiency and thus profits.
I was thinking more terms of getting the cooperation of Congress. Dealing with some Republicans in Congress, like Mitt Romney and some times Linsey Graham, among many others, is like herding cats. Unfortunately a Republican President also has to deal with the bureaucracy which is now 80%+ Democrat, maybe more. He can't fire them. He can only change the cabinet heads. I'd like to see a great COE become President too, but Trump does not have the right temperament. He's too thin skinned.
