Vaping has been around enough...I know my husband is 10x healthier vaping then smoking...but he was over 2 packs a day...and I think the amount you smoke is key. 10 cigarettes a day may not cause much harm for some people. 2. packs a day is a ticking timebomb.
~ Friend of mine recently passed away from cigarettes. I do hope he enjoyed those smokes. I believe 69 is too young to die. My Dad smoked – was 94 when he passed . His sister smoked – " I don't care if it kills me. I enjoy my cigarettes damn it ! " I believe she was almost 100 when she left. My friend from early childhood had a brain tumor removed back about 1987. No smokes, booze, cursing, spitting ... He would have been a good Priest ! For the most part longevity seems to be greatly influenced by genetics . None of us know what our odds are. Whatever you do try to enjoy it , don't hurt others and apologize when necessary. ~ It's all about motivation. Rehab centers cannot give anyone that key ingredient.
This is very true. I woke up one day and looked in the mirror and was disgusted at what I saw and I knew that I could not continue to live that way and I refused to die that way. That left only one choice and like the old song says if you choose not to decide you have still made a choice. A wise man once told me that drugs will give you a different identity. At the time I heard him but I did not hear him..... Took me about 18 years to understand what he really meant.
I have switched 95% to vaping. But its all about convenience- I can vape in the house (I mean, I could smoke in the house, its my house, but I won't because it makes the house gross), and I don't have a lot of opportunities to roll my vanilla cavendish pipe tobacco cigarattes while I'm at work. Also the vanilla cavendish pipe tobacco cigarette embers might as well be molten lava, they burn holes in EVERYTHING (including me). So I mostly vape. Its prolly better for me too... but sadly, that has nothing to do with my switch.
I vape on the plane when I fly. Just have to take smaller hits and hold it in long enough that there's not enough visible vapor in the exhale for anyone to notice and/or care about.
I hear you, as I've been there too. Vaping is a far safer alternative. And yeah, I like a little bit of nicotine.
Congratulations on quitting smoking for over 2 years. I quit smoking over 15 years ago and I would have probably tried vaping if it was an option back then.
~ I believe that you are a wise man yourself. Always like to read your well thought comments. ~ It appears that Vapes may be the new Nicotine Patch .
I never tried the patch. I used a combination of Zyban and the Nicotine gum. I was really surprised it worked so well. I smoked a pack a day or more and it was the first time I tried to give up smoking.
Thanks for the vote of confidence and I only hope that sometimes I live up to that assessment. But I can sure make some damn foolish choices with the best of them. Reading your post gives me the impression that a man would do well to have you as a neighbor and or friend
I had one of those white bic pens in my mouth one time and a woman started coughing and hacking, telling me not to smoke there.... lol, so have to be careful, something that looks like smoke can really set them off
You can always get you a bag of Redman and a spit cup and sit next to her instead. Lol see how old Karen would like that !
that is what I did about 10 years ago, quit with vaping and then going to zero, vapes were not as easy back then, but still worked
When I quit smoking cigarettes for 18 months I did it cold turkey and I did not quit drinking coffee or beer. Now if you drink coffee or beer and also smoke you know that one goes together like a hand in a glove. My girlfriend and most of my friends still smoked and did not bother me until one day I said well a puff won't hurt.... Of course that turned into a little and a little turned into more until I was back up to a pack a day. For me it seems to be all or nothing. I know I need to quit because I'm not getting any younger. Aside from the health benefits that's $4.50 a day for the brand i buy. $1,642.50 a year. A ridiculous waste of money and health.
30 cigarettes for $50 ? Jebuss... That would be enough to make me quit. I smoke generic 305s which are made in Miami Florida and as far as I know are not sold outside of Florida. I can get 10 packs of 20 cigarettes which is a carton here for just a bit under $40. or $4.50 by the pack. More name brand cigarettes such as marlboro's and Newports or anywhere from $7.50 to $10 a pack. Sometimes I splurge and get a pack of the Pall Mall non filters and those are almost $11
USD vs AUS are not 1-1, but that is still extremely expensive. I have never seen a pack of 30. I guess the price would translate to $18 USD for pack of 20. Looks like the price has pretty much doubled since I quit.
I don't have much of an interest in cigarettes anymore (haven't had a single one in 3 years) but I support the freedom of anyone to smoke to their hearts content. Where it really hits is cigars and pipe tobacco. A box of cigars is well over $2000 here.
I don't hear about people growing their own tobacco but apparently it's legal in the US. https://www.wikihow.com/Grow-and-Process-Tobacco I can tell you for sure people grow their Marijuana ....
