They're "common" because the definition of a mass shooting has been changed to include fewer victims. Next thing you know, a mass shooting will be defined as two, or more victims, including the shooter.

So, if a murderer kills a person, then the cops kill the murderer, that equals a mass shooting.

 

Does anyone have the correlation between poverty and gun deaths rather than race and gun deaths? Black people are disproportionally poorer than whites.

 

Being poor isn't an excuse. There are way more, 3x more poor white folks than black folks and white folks don't commit over 50% of violent crimes.

Also, Hispanic poverty rates are similar to blacks but their child gun death rate is 4 times lower than that of black children.

 

The ethnicity of the shooters isn't the issue, but it is suggestive of the issue that causes these sorts of shootings to not make national headlines like other shootings- these are gang related, perpetrated by known criminals, using illegally obtained firearms. So its not useful to the 'we need more gun laws for law abiding citizens' agenda.

Just more evidense to toss on the pile that gun control -and those pushing for it- isn't being done with 'public safety' as the primary goal, given these sorts of gang shootings (which make up the vast bulk of all shootings, 'mass' and otherwise) aren't apparently considered as relevent.

 

Of course...and when that happens white people tend to demand the killer go away...preferably for a very very long time. They hold the perpetrator accountable.

 

Idiots look to blame the guns and not the perpetrators. We have 170 million law abiding citizen gun owners holding approx 400 million firearms....and WE are not the problem. An idiot looks at a problem and says "lets blame the object!"

The disparity outside of the majority-minority communities in democrat run cities really isnt as great as the overall numbers suggest. The problem is there is SUCH extreme poverty in those communities that it tends to skew statistics.

But your point is spot on. If we are going to resolve those problems there has to be a culture change and people have to stop mindlessly going to the polls and electing the same worthless piece of crap politicians they do over and over.

 

I am worried about that, and it is the very prevalence of guns in our society that makes it EASY for them to obtain. I never said it was the only reason, but pointing out that guns are very easy to obtain because of very limited gun laws is just stating a fact. I am not, nor never have, defended those who commit the crime.

Yes, most shootings occur in democratic cities.....coincidently those same areas are the most densely populated areas. Most gun violence takes place in democratic run cities becasue their are more people, hence more violence period. Now show us where those democratic cities are banning guns. Federal laws guarantee more guns. Im not anit-gun, and never have been. But responding to a post claiming the local government should be to blame here is absolutely ridiculous.

 

The Clinton 10 round mag limit created the now popular small 9mm handguns and current mega market starting with if my memory is correct the Gock 26 released in 94, same year as the Clinton ban. The 26 is certainly a lot more concealable than the 17.
