It is astounding that such uninformed and primitive thinking still exists.

Everything that is not specifically prohibited IS a right and to prohibit something the authority must exist.

I agree with this decision as well. As dumb as the law may be, if you want to sell to California then that is the cost. Pork farmers can always choose not to sell to California. That is an option.

You really believe that we live in an ideal world? When was the last time a rep. acted in the interest of their constituents and that alone or when constituents actually made a decision based on facts not politics?

And now it's prohibited in some states BY LAW :) Instead of traveling thru life on whimsical ideology maybe it been wiser to realize what wasn't a law before it came back to bite the ass's of all those that play pretend ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And what is the authority that gives the states the power to do so?

The entire industry is going to have to retool. Hence, the entire country will be paying higher prices for pork products.

And if it can be prohibited by the government, it isn't a right.

And government must have that specific authority. Can you name it or you believe that government can prohibit anything at will?

No they won't. Only if the out of state producers wish to sell to California. When the slaughterhouses perform their duties, they do it in batches per the order by the meat supplier. They can create lables whether it is certified by the FDA or state specific. thus, the higher prices will more likely be in California. And if you don't live there, then prices will not rise unless it is due to inflation. But in California, they may experience higher prices. It is why in different states the prices of meat vary for various reasons.

Federal government sets a minimum standard. States can create standards that exceed federal standards. But states cannot generate standards lower than federal standards.

If I understand it right, it is not about the slaughtering but raising of the animals and slaughter houses can not change anything about that.

The way it works, is you have farms, some of them very large, who raise the pigs, the eggs, etc, to be sold to the slaughterhouses. At the slaughterhouse, they will gather the necessary info, such as any diseases certified by the vet before they are shipped for said diseases. And they make notes on how the animals are kept and so forth. Most slaughterhouses are near where the farms that raise the animals are but can accept animals across state lines, which has a higher set of standards to begin with. So, most of the meat sold in California will be from California farms. Meat sold in your state may come from your state or another state depending on which state you live in. But in certain states like California, Texas, and a few others, the meat is more local than anything else. Below is a link on our production of food stocks. Generally speaking, in most states, the amount of meat available far exceeds the amount of meat consumed for consumption by its population. And there are plenty of slaughterhouses in each and every state that has huge amounts of cattle.

What about eggs. That proposition affected the egg industry too. But the egg industry said "its not a problem" because of the bird flu that affected egg production and why eggs are so expensive now.

Oh, I didn't know that. Eggs are probably going up, too. But the logistics on eggs are different than pork.

Both chicken and pigs are heard animals. So when the bird flu comes to one chicken, pretty soon the entire coop has it. And rules say, those animals have to be destroyed and their eggs deposed of, which is why eggs are expensive and have been for quite some time.

It used to be about 99 cents for a dozen large grade-A eggs. It is now around $2 to $2.50 per dozen grade-A eggs. It has gotten so bad that bakeries had to come up with alternatives for their cakes and other desserts that use eggs. Some decided to temporarily forgo certain deserts that use a large number of eggs per batch.
