When politicians are campaigning, they show the outside of the package. Once they are elected, we get to see the actual ingredients. Both parties change their tune once they gain access to our money.

Trump could have built the wall and had us do our taxes on a postcard, but doing do would leave little for the next campaign.

You cannot make an honest case that dems excessive taxes are better for society. The poor are disproportionately targeted for audits and I believe it is because they pay up without a fight. Like trumps postcard tax filing, the dems are picking on the poor and weak after campaigning under the guise of caring for them.

You are certainly right to criticize reps, but if you are a democrat, you are criticizing your own reflection.

Hunter paid the back taxes plus penalties owed.

Why is it a kick in the pants? Are you hoping to not pay your taxes? And then when caught, not pay them back plus the penalties owed? I don't understand your point. Other than you hate Joe and Hunter Biden. Which is fine, but maybe just post that?

You suspect? OK, that's fine. I suspect you're mistaken. Because if you hire someone today for the next 30 years of employment it will cost more than the savings of someone retiring today from your payroll. Unless the apocalypse hits. You see, it's a GOOD thing that prices continue to rise AND people continue to live better than they did before. That's called progress. The opposite of progression is regression. Which would you prefer to happen?

Do you believe the tax laws need to be enforced (tough on crime), or........not enforced (soft on crime)?

We have 600B in uncollected taxed per year, and that's a big coin. By collecting that we could increase tax revenue significantly without raising taxes at all.

The poor are not targeted, they just, to your point, can't afford the fancy lawyers and accountants to fight. I'm all for not auditing anyone making less than 100K a year and focusing 100% on corporations and those making over that. You in? Because you know who isn't? Your man Trump. And his rich friends. You see, they like the IRS the way it is, only able to get those who can't afford to fight them. So don't complain to the left. We are on your side on this. Complain to your right.

You incorrectly referred to trump as "my guy". I do not suckle from either partisan nipple, right or left. The only difference between the parties is how much their steal and who they give it to.

You are right to criticize trump and the reps, but if you are a democrat, you are criticizing your own reflection.

My apologies on assigning you guys.

As for political parties, the democrats are more correct on this issue than not. Ensuring the IRS has the resources it needs to function and properly collect the taxes owed the US treasury is a valid goal. It helps all of us by reducing lost revenues that we have to make up for in other ways that have consequences. Consequences and risks we don't need to take if we just fund the IRS properly.

Yeah, and? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say Hunter didn't do anything wrong. But let's focus on what you said. He got caught. Who caught him? Was it the IRS? Cool! Wouldn't it be nice if they caught everyone who tried to not pay the taxes they owed? I know a way to do that, ensure they have the adequate resources they need. So your five words sort of help make my point. We can't catch the Hunter Biden's of the world if we don't have the resources we need to catch them...

They need to target the elite and the wealthy. Under the rules enacted by the Biden Administration, IRS needs those 80k people so they can target anyone owing $600 or more, hence they are targeting the middle and lower classes now. Yet, we don't hear much about the elite getting away with tax dodging. Gotta pay for those wars and illegal immigrants somehow!

You are incorrect. Democrats are the party of bigger government and higher taxes. Rep are not much better. We don't need more IRS squeezing our workers; we need to hold politicians accountable for their irresponsibility.

BTW, tax cuts have never resulted in a loss of revenue for the treasury.

Workers pay 100% of their taxes. That's because 100% of their income is already reported to the IRS before they file. Bigger government and higher taxes aren't really a problem. More people on the government payroll spend their money the same way people who work for a private company spend their money. The government hands out contracts aka money like candy and since they aren't interested in making a profit, they spend 100% if not more in the economy. Holding politicians accountable for irresponsibility is great, but not really going to help recover taxes from people who have the means to dodge such obligations.

And yes, yes tax cuts have cost a loss or revenue, but that's not really the topic at hand for this thread. This topic is about ensuring we can enforce our existing tax rules, which is something the right champions when it comes to not making other laws, so I would think they would champion it here.

You can say that higher taxes and bigger government is not a problem, but actual results show the opposite. Living in the Democrats petri dish, CA, society is worse off. Our tax codes are voluminous and complicated. This is a disadvantage for those dems claim to care about.

Please post the year that tax cuts resulted in a loss of revenue for the treasury:

California is the fifth largest economy in the world and has extremely high property values because people want to live there. Is it perfect or problem free? No. But neither is a whole list of small government states or even nations. None of which are the fifth largest economy in the world.

Complicated tax codes don't matter to people who work for a living. They matter to people who invest or run a business for a living. Which isn't the majority of Americans and it's not the majority of poor Americans. So again, the changes to the IRS would not affect low income workers more than they are already impacted. It would help ensure those making more money via more complicated means are paying what they owe under the current laws.

And over that 10 yr period, some 50,000 or so will retire.

    How disproportionately does it fall?

    Here's a look...

It is important not to confuse the year-end statistics for any year referenced in the Data Book, or any
other interim results, as final results for the most recent tax years.
In fact, it is useful to take a look at what more recent data reflect, particularly on higher-income
taxpayers where examination activity is often initiated later in the statutory period (new exams can be
initiated up to at least three years after a tax return is filed). The additional figures below show 2019
audit rates doubling in the last seven months for taxpayers in every income category above $100,000.
For example, based on ongoing examination activity, audit rates for income categories between
$500,000 and $1 million doubled to 0.6%. Audit rates for the $1 million to $5 million category more than
doubled to 1.3% and taxpayers earning more than $10 million jumped four times – reaching 8%.

That makes results even more inexcusable. That means that high taxes combined with abundant resources and dem control equals a lower quality of life for those dems claim to care about the most. In addition to leading the nation in poverty, income inequality ranks with the highest.

Complex tax codes/laws only matter to those lacking the ability to afford quality tax professionals.

Don't forget to post the year where tax cuts resulted in a loss of revenue for the treasury. I already looked it up and the answer is: Never!

From my source, they are 5.5 times more likely than the wealthy. When they see that letter from the mighty IRS, they are intimidated and pay up without a fight. Many cannot pay and end up on trouble. They end up paying thousands of dollars to a tax relief company just so they can sleep at night. This industry is growing.

Support for a political party and for more IRS agents is not from a position of concern for low wage workers.

I looked. I didn't see any source from you.
    Where can I find it?

According to many, it's not for more IRS agents.
The bulk are to keep filled those who will retire in 5 or 10 yrs. And to add more clerical workers to get tasks completed.

It's a matter of equal protection under the law. Hunter Biden should not get sweetheart deals because he's the president's son.

And, yes, it's a kick in the pants when the big guys get away with evading taxes.

If Hunter Biden was treated like everyone else, why did the IRS whistleblowers come forward? One of them was a Democrat who is gay.

If I were you, I'd forget about defending Hunter and start hoping the old man doesn't get roped into the scandal.

    Who said he did?

Is Hunter Biden's plea agreement a sweetheart deal? What we know (usatoday.com)

It's likely he didn't compared what you or I would get. Most people who don't pay their taxes face the penalty of...paying back the taxes plus interest and penalties. You have to willingly defy in order to even wind up with a prison sentence.

So if it is a kick in the pants, let's give the IRS the tools to go after them so they don't get away with it. And that includes Hunter Biden. Which he didn't.

I don't care about Hunter Biden. He can win the lottery or get the death sentence for all I care. He means nothing to me. But I'll stop discussing him if you stop prosecuting him and talk to the actual point of the IRS getting the resources it needs to function.

https://news.yahoo.com/irs-tax-audi...he burden of the IRS,to data released by TRAC.

I would go the opposite direction. Simplify and force politicians to act in the taxpayers best interest.
