So you think that there were excellent relations between the countries, but then a paranoid Putin appeared and started doing nasty things to the West? And the West in response began to impose sanctions on Russia ...

And why did Putin need to spoil everything if the relationship was good? Did he lack thrills?

Well, that would be simplifying things quite a bit, but you're on the right track, yes. Putin has expressed his dismay over the collapse of the USSR and he very much wants Ukraine to remain within the Russian sphere of influence. Ukraine moving away from that voluntarily is not an option for him, and so here we are. He has you believing that the only way Ukraine could ever want to turn westward is if the west somehow subverted Ukraine. In the end, though, the west provides an enviable model of democracy and economic prosperity. That is why these things are also under such heavy attack by the Putin regime -- they want to discredit the west as much as possible to try and deter others from following that path. He wants Russia to look good by comparison so that it will be more attractive to people and officials in places like Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia, among many others.

I don't know for sure why Putin thought he had to go this route, but I think his growing up in the Soviet system shaped his perception of the west in a very negative way, and so he interprets everything western governments do in a negative way. In addition, he wants to remain in power and so does things that dictators typically do, employing tactics to manipulate the people he rules over and suppress opposition. Does it not alarm you that he has been changing laws in Russia to protect himself and to keep himself in office for so long?

So? There really aren't many Russian villains in American movies, generally speaking. I also remember how fondly Russia was regarded in the 80s, 90s and 00s. Have you ever seen Rocky IV?

    Can you specify how exactly?

Those Ukrainians who you called some kind of subrussians, made up nation by poles? Strange that they don't love you, it's definitely US and Soros fault. :D

Russia is at it again and they probably think that there isn't going to stop them this time. Putin's goal is to dictate Ukraine like he does with Russia.

There is a well-known case when Interior Minister Kravchenko was found with two bullets in his head and the official verdict was that it was suicide. All this would be funny if it wasn't so sad. It happened back in 2005.

On June 16, 2016, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted amendments to the law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" (entered into force on November 8, 2016), which established language quotas on radio. On May 23, 2017, at the initiative of President Petro Poroshenko, the Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting", according to which the share of broadcasting in Ukrainian on national and regional television and radio should be at least 75% per week... For non-compliance with the norm, a fine of 5% of the total license fee of the TV and radio company was imposed. On September 5, 2017, the Parliament of Ukraine adopted a new version of the law "On Education"... Education in secondary schools and higher educational institutions should be conducted exclusively in Ukrainian. On April 25, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law "On Ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language", which significantly limited the possibility of using the Russian language in the country.

Users of social networks in Ukraine are discussing a scandalous video shot in one of the shopping centers of Sumy. There, a determined buyer demands that the seller speak in "mov", and not in Russian. ...

In the Kiev region, another act of linguistic discord broke out — a client came to a local store (it happened in Brovary) and was extremely indignant when she heard the hated Russian speech from the sales consultant. Ukropabliki gloat over the girl who was beaten for the Russian speech...

The girl arrived in Mukachevo, shot a video in Russian, and after some time posted the video in Ukrainian, promising to speak only "on the move". At the same time, traces of beatings are visible on her face...

Former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleg Gelevey attacked a waitress of a cafe in Kiev with a knife for speaking Russian. Gelevey put a knife to the girl's throat. It is noted that the cafe's visitors stood up for the waitress...

...a woman was brutally beaten in the Ukrainian capital... The victim told the police who arrived at the scene that she had been beaten by several men. The conflict occurred because she spoke Russian.
Doctors in the emergency room, where the victim was taken by law enforcement, found that the woman's nose was broken and her teeth were knocked out.

Is it enough for you or do you still need examples?

Yes, drop in some other bullshit about suicide in 2005., it's very relevant to the Zelenskiy government, right?
And WHY ARE YOU IGNORING THE QUESTION ABOUT ANNA POLITKOVSKAJA MURDER? You know that you are living in and supporting the Nazi Russia state, just cant admit it publicly, right?

So, in Year 2016.(For those, who have a problem with mathematic - 7, not 20 years ago) Ukrainians had a law about language quotas in TV and Radio. And this event alone let Russian Nazis come to the conclusion, that - "For 20 years I have been seeing how the Russian language and history are being destroyed in Ukraine". You see, for these total inadequate persons giving a time in media for state language is equal of destroying Russian language and also history for some totally unclear reasons. And I don't even talk about the fact, that these Nazis have a problem with simple mathematics. You see Vitalij, how your nation and Youssef had degraded in time of Putins regime?

Just before the war in November 2021, I was in Kyiv, spoke in Russian, met Russian-speaking people all around and no one attacked me or them.

If there is nothing to answer, then the best way is to turn the conversation to another topic! Let's also remember about the murder of Olof Palme!

So if you have met Russian-speaking people everywhere in Kiev, then why need to ban the Russian language?! Do you yourself not understand the absurdity of these laws?

What is another topic? You claim, that Ukraine is a Nazi state because... someone committed suicide in 2005. Man, I bet you have IQ level ~ 160 points, right? And when someone asks you, isn't Your country - Russia, Nazi state according to same parameters, you just keep silence. :D

No one banned the Russian language, language quotas on TV is not equal to a language ban. You are just not able to perceive reality adequately.

Do you realize that your country is bombing Ukrainian civilians? Do you understand how little language policies matter in comparison to the death and destruction your country is visiting on the Ukrainian people right now?

He justifies it in parallel calling those, who Russians attacked without any reason - Nazis.

Do you understand that language bans are only a visible part of the iceberg, and in fact, the ethnocide of the Russian population has been going on in Ukraine for thirty years? And for thirty years, Ukrainians have been preparing janissaries. Do you know who the Janissaries are? It was in the Middle Ages that children were taken into slavery, given another religion, brought up to hate their fellow tribesmen, and then sent them to kill and capture representatives of their own people. If there were no such Russophobic policy, there would be no war.

Yes, there is ethnocide of Russians, that's why the only example you can bring here is language quotas on TV. :D

To be fair, there was a significant portion of Russians who resisted Putin by either fleeing or recent attacks inside of Russia itself. It hasn't yet reached the tipping point but there is resistance to Putin.

But there have been neither language bans nor ethnocide taking place in Ukraine. At least, there weren't until your imperialist storm troopers were sent in to do just that.
