Been down in the 20's here the last couple nights after being up in the high 80's for several days before that. I like fall. I don't like it when the temps are schizophrenic though.

Something to do in the backyard. Would you believe a bale of hay is now $10.50?

I also have cardboard and sheet metal behind it so I do not hit the neighbor's fence which he built by hand board by board so I'm sure he would not appreciate me sticking arrows into it.

Found a dead fox in the yard this morning with no obvious cause of death. Looked healthy and not very old. Maybe a year or two. Makes me wonder if it was poisoned.

    Interesting day out today.
Went out with farmer Paul to deliver some straw to one of his regular thatchers and on the way back we stopped off at a working windmill to buy some bread from the attached bakery.
Not enough wind for the mill to be turning today unfortunately.
In the storm of '87 the mill was seriously damaged and had to be rebuilt.

It was rebuilt ten years later and is back grinding flour when the wind it strong enough.

One interesting thing that Paul pointed out is the bricks were laid in one continuous spiral rather than in courses.

What caused the damage in the 1987 hurricane was a faulty gear which meant the sails locked shut rather than open up to let the wind blow through them. This meant the sails spun round uncontrollably until they were ripped off.
It would have been quite a spectacle to observe I'm sure.
The repair bill in 1999 was over £90k which the council contributed £70k and the rest was raised by a trust set up to repair the mill.
The owners of the mill had bought it just 3 or 4 months before the storm.
It is the only working mill in Suffolk. Most have been converted into residences and a few have been restored to working order but are not commercially grinding wheat or barley.
Unfortunately the couple who bought it in '87 have now both died and their children have put it up for sale.

I think Aemotor is the only windmill company in the States.
They aren't like the one in your picture but they can get the job done. Check the company out.

Presumably they are pumps rather than mills?

I have had five people so far tonight coming in the store after midnight wanting to buy beer.

It is against county ordinance to sell alcohol after midnight and these people already know that because they live here.

What the hell makes them think I want to risk my job and possibly going to jail so they can buy beer after midnight when they already know they need to get their ass to the store before that?

And some of them even try to bribe me with a little money. Like yes I really want to risk my job and possibly going to jail for a stinking ass $20 bill.

Get your ass here before midnight and I will go in the back and get a hand truck and sell you a damn trunk load of beer.

There is an old burned down mansion up in the woods not too far from us that had a windmill to pump water. It had been disconnected from the well after the house burned in the 70's but last time I went out there, the wind mill was still working and the the mechanisms were still operating albeit very creaky down to the point of disconnect.

The beauty of having a windmill is no electricity is needed just the wind and occasional repair work.

That particular one is on a hillside beside the river so I am guessing that they have a more steady flow of wind all the time than a lot of places.

Lol. Last night me and two friends were riding on his golf cart around the two and a half mile circle of dirt roads that is his neighborhood.

When a Jeep bends the corner about 400 ft away coming in our direction with all of their stupid bright light bars on. Now this is them being an a****** because they can clearly see our lights and they know that their lights are blinding us.

I just so happened to have my 150,000 lumen spotlight on my head. It throws an extremely tight beam that is still about a 3 ft circle at 300 yards and bright as the sun.

So I lit their ass up with it. It only took about 3 seconds until they reduced their lights to normal highway driving lights.

And of course if I didn't have that with me they probably would have drove all the way past us with their blinding ass off road lights.
And they look like the type that don't even live there or have friends there and are just driving around the dirt road to role play with their Jeep.

    Well, their ass learned tonight.
They didn't stop making bright lights when they made yours. And they even made some brighter than yours.

They drove by and didn't say a damn word. I told my friends I feel like I just got my $50 out of this light even if it never turns on again. Lol

I'm getting kind of tired of working nights from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. because it makes it hard to do much in the day but sleep and go back to work.

But my schedule never changes ( which is good because most other employees are subject to swing shift ) and my weekend is always two nights in a row.

The only thing worse than nights is swing shift. Leave work and show right back up in 8 hours time....

    You go pinky boy!
My friend has a 7-year-old male pitbull with arthritis in his hips that has never had a chance to make puppies.
His neighbor has this Pitbull b**** of about 3 years old or a bit less, despite his arthritis.... Pinky boy was finally able to seal the deal after about 40 minutes of trying..... And he was running around like a puppy the whole time. So fingers crossed there's probably puppies on the way because they were locked up like this for 20 minutes.
