Bill Maher gives excellent examples of woke ideology. For all those pretending to not know what it means, or may actually not know, the best way to find out is to get examples. Here are examples.

I'm not a fan of the performative altruism videos, but at the end of the day, Mr. Beast has legitimately helped people, probably far more than most who've criticized him.

I don't like this style of video because it's essentially "look at me look at me!", but no matter how much it rubs me the wrong way(and admittedly, I tend to have a problem with most of the online videos that get made for clout regardless of the topic or style. I tend to think the terms "influencer" and "digital creator" are just interchangeable words for moron), it can't be ignored that the people in some of these videos are better off than they were before the videomaker came along.

And Bill is right to call out the criticisms he chose. Leave it to the keyboard SJWs to find a reason to criticize charity and altruism that has legitimately aided people because the purity of motivation behind it didn't meet their high standards.

Prefer the Fred Hollows foundation when it comes to things like cataract surgery. But this is just Bill Maher griping about other people griping

You know this is for entertainment right? It is not real or expected. It is Bill Maher's style of humor, which I don't care for.

Setting aside, for the moment, that I don't think anyone on this forum holds themselves or anyone else (except their enemies) to that standard, why is it bad to bring more attention to a good cause?

But precisely what are their standards. They tend to look a lot like damned if you do and damned if you don't,

And it misses the point of the actual OP. In the OP, it isn't about calling out Mr Best for "performative altruism" . . . it's literally about making fun of people who say that about him. I don't often agree with Maher, but he's got a point here.

Yes he does, in fact the standard I refer to is that of those critiquing Mr.Beast. The woke crowd is way to reminiscent of those jack asses waving the little red books during the cultural revolution.

Most of the "woke" complaints I hear are kind of bogus, but this one is legit.

The biggest offenders of these "look at me, look at me!" charity videos are on my TV and the one corporation that does this that offends me the most is Honda with its "Helping Hands" ad campaign. It's phony, contrived, and moronic all in an attempt to get eyeballs.

I too had never heard of this Mr. Beast before Friday night, but what I find most disturbing is not that he helped these people, but rather why are there so many folks who need cataract surgery and cannot afford it? That is an indictment of the holes in our social safety net. Cataracts are something many of us will develop as we age. Where is the hole in our Medicaid / Medicare systems that this is an issue that an Internet Influencer can so easily (and rightfully) see a need and offer a solution?

You can get cataracts fairly early in life if you spend a lot of time outside without eye protection

I think the point is that doing good for bad reasons usually ends up turning into doing bad. But I dont think the Bible follows 'do it for the right reasons' with 'or dont do it all'. Theres nothing wrong with finding the silver lining in something.

You are correct. Other people of means may see what Beast is doing and follow his example. Who cares about any "Look at me"-type publicity as long as people are being helped?

But what dose that have to do with the OP? How as Mr. Beast doing good "for bad reasons" and how did it end up "turning into doing bad"? I don't think that was the point of the video at all. The point of the video was to poke fun at people who criticized Mr. Beast for a good thing he did.

I don't know all that much about the guy, so maybe he's a jerk (one of his main students that he helped prop up, Sneako, certainly is), but I've seen nothing to indicate that yet.

I dont think Mr. Beasts reasons are bad. If he were just doing it for attention, that would be 'doing good, but for a bad reason', and I would still want him to do good. But Mr. Beast knows how to turn attention into profit. I prefer to assume he's 'using' the videos of the people he helps as a resource to help more people. Thats just benevolent entrepreneurship. Which is awesome.

Mr. Beast has actually done a lot of good with his Youtube channel. The two things mentioned in the article, cataracts and wells, is just the tip of the iceberg of what he's done. He's actually quite "lefty" in his views. Awhile back, 2019, he started a campaign to plant 20 million trees all across the world. As of Dec 5 of this year his team has planted well over 20 million. He's also set up a team similar only dedicated to cleaning up the marine debris. He is also a supporter of Trans Rights, though that only came up because one of his friends came out as trans and that person started getting a lot of flack, he defended his friend. Otherwise he generally stays out of politics. He's helped homeless people and food banks, literally buying out entire stores stocks and donating them to food banks.

He isn't doing this as a "look at me". He's doing it to actually help people. He just does it through Youtube because that is how he's accomplishing these things. He's literally getting millions of people to help others because no one person can do any of these things to the degree he has. Unless you're maybe Elon Musk or Bill Gates. True, maybe at the start of his career he was doing it for the "look at me" typical youtuber thing. But at least he's put his fame to good use. I don't know of any other Youtuber that has done as much good as he has. Many have tried to copy him, but they seem to always stop once they've made their money and then disappear.

Because you're supposed to simply do good deeds to do them not because someone is watching and you're trying to get views.
