Most terrifying poll result I've ever seen

"When veteran pollster Scott Rasmussen surveyed a group of Americans he calls the elite 1% earlier this year, he discovered a startling number who say it’s OK to win an election by cheating.

The elite 1%—individuals who make over $150,000 a year, live in densely populated areas, and have postgraduate degrees—are overwhelmingly liberal. They give President Joe Biden an 82% approval rating, compared to his 40% average from the rest of Americans.

Rasmussen asked these liberal voters: “Suppose that your favorite candidate loses a close election. However, people on the campaign know that they can win by cheating without being caught. Would you rather have your candidate win by cheating or lose by playing fair?”

Among all Americans, just 7% said they would want their candidate to win by cheating. But that number rose to 35% among the elite 1% and skyrocketed to 69% among those who are part of the politically obsessed 1%, meaning they talk about politics every day."

Yes- that is terrifying; indicating that higher education has become so corrupted it undermines respect for honesty and justice rather than reinforcing it. That does explain a lot of what we are seeing in America today.

It seems knowledge is no substitute for character... and we know that people without character are incapable of creating a just and thriving society, despite their "education". That word apparently no longer includes being taught the most important things needed to do that job. This is how people can get the credentials to gain positions of authority- while lacking the qualities of honesty and integrity that are critical to the job and their relationship with the people they work for.

 

Do think that conservatives have a history of supporting honesty in elections...Could this be the groundwork for another claim od dishonesty if Conservatives lose the next election?

Democrats spent the entire four years of Trump's term undermining the integrity of our elections by calling him an illegitimate president.

They laid the groundwork and now they want to cry when Trump does it back to them.

Unsurprising. That group is probably more active in local politics, knows or has met politicians, and understands better how politics actually works. They have moved on from the high school civics class version of politics.

This doesn’t even include individual convictions (mostly Republicans) or attempts to make voting more difficult — just the fraud done by politicians. Also doesn’t include the massive gerrymandering cases we have seen where Republicans are ignoring courts to diminish the will of the people.

Also, when did 150k become “elite” — I make more than that and have never even thought about classifying that group as elite. They are middle class at best.

Notice that none of the Leftists are denying the finding. You might want to rethink the idea that they will be stopped by reason and ethics from their pursuit of illegitimate power over the rest of us.

 

This is information from one of the most reputable poll companies. It fits in with what I think has become common on political ethics today.
The fact that most people who get into position like lawyers and judges and department heads for government would likely be post-graduates and fit the category where cheating appears most acceptable, amplifies the importance of the poll conclusions. Most importantly, that threatens the integrity of government, which is already at an all time low. The poll included everyone; the results become definitive when the variations in values follow identifiable associations to people.

IF I see smoke, am I likely to suspect fire? Yes. Losing honestly is fair play in politics, and we all should accept that and work together. Losing to cheaters means the entire population has been scammed, and those who think they benefit today are creating a precedent that will become the standard for anyone- including the people they set out to cheat. Cheating becomes the way the game is played- and the most consistent loser is the voters. They are disenfranchised by cheating, no matter who wins.

The factor in acceptability in not who wins- but who wins honestly. Cheaters haven't really won. They cheat because they couldn't win honestly, and lack the character to accept that.

 

I will note that you think others did it, so now- it's OK.... with you.

 

It's from a supporter of character and honesty- from anybody. Since nobody's perfect, that means the best we can get.

I want an educated and politically active voter base in this nation — of which we have neither

Cheating, whether it be electoral fraud all the way to partisan gerrymandering needs to be illegal and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The issue though is the side that is constantly screaming their opponents are doing it keep getting arrested for being the actual perpetrators.

Y'all have convinced yourself that it’s impossible for your position to be in the minority so the only way you are losing is due to fraud and thus justifies your own fraud.

 

Oh, I have no illusions about that. I post items like this for the people who are trying to get things in focus and questions resolved.

 

It's very difficult to admit that we are in a position that is unlikely to be resolved by reason. But if that's the truth, it must be squarely faced. That's part of why I'm unhappy with Trump's plan of not making these folks pay the price they have been trying to exact from others. Trump says that simply improving the lot of All Americans will be the best revenge, and I think that might be naïve.
