Federal officials say 20 have been charged for threatening election workers

PHOENIX — Justice Department officials said reports of widespread threats against officials running the 2020 and 2022 elections have resulted in charges against roughly 20 people, with more than a half dozen receiving sentences between one and 3½ years.

But the federal officials said at a news conference in Arizona on Monday that it remains to be seen if the stiff sentences will serve as an effective deterrent to would-be-criminals in future election cycles.

“Let these cases be a lesson not to take or attempt to take the rule of law into one’s own hands,” said U.S. Attorney Gary Restaino, Arizona’s top federal prosecutor.

When Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election and falsely claimed that Joe Biden wasn’t the true winner because of widespread voter fraud, election workers across the country — from rank-and-file employees who helped process ballots to top state officials who certified or defended the results — came under attack. In June 2021, Attorney General Merrick Garland launched the Election Threats Task Force to combat violent threats facing election workers.

    Those three judges were right.

For extremism researchers, the shooting death this week of a Utah man who was alleged to have made violent threats against President Biden and other public officials highlights a concerning trend. For years, they have watched a steady escalation in violent political rhetoric that appears to be fueling acts of real-life violence.

On Wednesday, the FBI shot and killed Craig Robertson of Provo, Utah as they attempted to arrest him due to his alleged threats ahead of a visit to Utah by Biden. Federal charges against the 75-year-old laid out a history of violent social media posts, not just about the president, but also a range of Democratic politicians and officials, including New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Vice President Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Robertson has been on the FBI's radar since March, based on a tip from a social media platform, reportedly Truth Social, the company backed by former President Donald Trump. He allegedly posted direct language about his dream to "eradicate" Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, before Bragg's office indicted Trump.

How much evidence must be posted before The Following acknowledges Trumpery has ushered in a wave of violence and violent threats on a scale never seen before?

Judges in Trump-related cases face unprecedented wave of threats
https://www.reuters.com/investigate...rump set the stage,2022, said in an interview.

Judges and prosecutors are facing repeated threats of violence as they handle cases related to Trump, interviews and documents reveal. The wave of intimidation follows the ex-president’s attacks on judges as corrupt and biased – and some worry it threatens America’s long tradition of judicial independence.

MAGAs are starting to promote the idea that the only way they'll be able to save their "idol" is to make judges afraid of doing their job. However, there are so many charges that it's unlikely they will be able to find enough Aileen Cannon's in the judicial system to get him off the hook.

In the end, Trump will be broke and in prison. Which is exactly what he deserves.

Us? Hate the guy who got so many people in prison or even killed... to stay in power? Who separated children from their family with no intention of ever reuniting them? Who sexually abuses women?...

Why would anybody hate such a charming guy?

Seriously: the REAL question is why don't REPUBLICANS hate somebody like that! What's wrong with them!

why do Trump haters have such a hard time actually telling us their real reasons. The faux concern over illegals is such glaring BS I am laughing.

It's not just Trump, it's a common mood of Democrats in general, it's a lot more volitile on social media and places of anonymity..

Trump is simply the "flavor of the month" and will be quickly retired and another acquired once this all has played out..

This has been the norm since the sixties, they must have some sort of movement to feel relevant, living and enjoying life is not enough, and the older they get the more drastic they claw to fit in..

I just TOLD you the reasons: rape, child abuse, insurrection...!

Why do Trump lovers find it so easy to ignore reality? I know they are USED to it. And this is why they're wrong on just about every single issue: immigration, guns, women rights, ... MAGAs MUST do away with reality because reality doesn't help them promote their agenda. So they have learned to ignore it.

One must keep their eye on the ball, the DNC has now escalated insurrection to terrorist attack.. And as soon as that word is beat in to the dirt and no longer dredges up the hatred on the left, another more inciteful word will replace it ;)

They have found HATE is the best leftist motivator when fear is not available..

What happened to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the two Georgia election workers, was absolutely horrible. Numerous death threats, ruined reputations, etc. Rudy Giuliani, the one-time respected lawyer and politician, is now paying the price. This guy sure lost his way.

    Campaign of Fear
The Trump world’s assault on U.S. election workers

https://www.reuters.com/investigate... from poll workers and, fraud in the 2020 vote.

The people who administer U.S. elections – from poll workers and ballot counters to county clerks and secretaries of state – have endured a year of terroristic threats from supporters of former President Donald Trump, inspired by his false assertions of widespread fraud in the 2020 vote. The result, as Reuters chronicled in this agenda-setting series of reports, has been a campaign of intimidation that is stressing the foundation of American democracy.

Why hasn't Trump unequivocally condemned the threats made by his followers against those involved in his various prosecutions?

Trump-inspired death threats are terrorizing election workers

Election officials and their families are living with threats of hanging, firing squads, torture and bomb blasts, interviews and documents reveal. The campaign of fear, sparked by Trump's voter-fraud falsehoods, threatens the U.S. electoral system.

Effectively stolen yeah. There were openings during a president's term. McConnell blocked them from getting a hearing. Using the same logic he applied about it being close to an election, Trump would not have been able to nominate his last one either but he was allowed to. The constitution does not say that presidents can only choose scotus justices if their party also controls the senate... then again, the founders didn't really anticipate the rise of political parties let alone the insane tribalism of today.

What does this question have to do with your position on calling judges corrupt being a call to arms? When your follower makes a threat does that mean you made a call to arms?

Remember when judges used to be impartial? Yeah, I did too. It's not just 'rare', it NEVER happens because it shouldn't happen. If a juror member made such comments, that juror would be booted. Now, backed by them decreeing that they judge themselves pure as snow, they break their own decorum and show themselves to be hypocrites wearing a cloak with power and authority that they lack the judgment to use.

And as such, the judiciary is unhealthy with a 97% incarceration rate that compares favorably with Russia.

To be fair, isn't this generally a warning about what democrats are going to do when they lose? It sure seems like the democratic oligarchs aren't going to go quietly into the night when they lose. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and the danger/threat democrats pose to the nation.

Hillary lost and conceded almost immediately.

Trump lost by a larger margin than Hillary's loss, and the whole world knows what happened after that.

Sore losers are pathetic in sports, and they're more pathetic in politics.
