Former top military officers push back on Trump immunity claim

It's when the military starts telling the civilian government how it will operate that we become anti-democratic and authoritarian like the one the progressives want.

 

You don't believe there is a doctrine of qualified immunity? You don't believe throughout the history of the country Presidents have had a qualified immunity?

 

You seem confused. These former military officers want to make sure the constitutional order as it has existed is maintained. Progressives want the same thing. Not for Trump to assume power never intended by the Founders.

 

Is there a particular reason why you're dismissive of these military people? What makes you so certain that they don't understand the law and politics? These are top people, well educated and very bright, something most have proven just by reaching their positions. They have served our country well. Have some respect, please.

You are aware that our military are all volunteers, right? Obama may have inspired people to join up and serve their country, but the president does not decide who gets to enlist, or who gets promoted. They can try to influence, but good luck with that.

One reason that they are having recruiting problems with today's American youth is the lack of physical fitness in too many volunteers. Another reason is fewer volunteers. They lack dedication to country. From millenials on down, too many are spoiled rotten.

Presidents carry the benefit of immunity so that partisan law enforcement can't dictate policy by using supposed enforcement of the law.

Let's imagine this. Some yahoo local DA decides that they don't like the actions of the president's order to federal agents to take down a terrorist on US soil.

A partisan DA COULD claim the president violated the law in a murder for higher scheme.

If we apply the laws to the president, this is 100% feasible.

Presidents make daily decisions that could be considered illegal for normal folks. That's part of the job.

The claim for immunity prevents the perversion of justice to serve political ends attempting to impact the presidential duties. As such, claims of illegal action by the president need to be brought first through the congress in the form of impeachment, and ultimately charging the president if successful.

We actually are witnessing weaponized local governments using their local authority to attempt to impact national elections. This is what immunity is intended to prevent.
